The Anaheim Duck Juvy Filly
12 Fillies take to the main track to contest the Grade 3, 8 Furlong, Anaheim Duck Juvy Filly. 3 of the undefeated fillies are co-favorites and all open up at odds of 9/2 on the morning line.
1)SUMMER MAMBO(KY) kroth2 R Simcox 13/1, is by Summer Bird. She broke her maiden last out in her third try at the same distance as today’s race. She has already won as many times as her momma with her maiden score. Summer Mambo looked good on the stretch out drawing away to by nearly 3 lengths against 8 other rivals. She figures to be right in the hunt at a juicy price. Trainer hits the board 45% of the time.
2)TITLE LIGHT(KY) purse77 L Jones 7/1, Another 2 year old filly by Summer Bird. Has won 2 of 3 and got up in the final strides to win a lower level Alw NW2L in her last start. She figures to be passing horses in the late stages. Her dam won 6 of 41 earning 158k. Winning 2 of 3 thus far, can’t take her lightly.
3)NOM OMNOM NOMNOM(AUS) tyr F Gossett 9/2, One of 3 undefeated fillies in this race this daughter of Redoute’s Choice looked very good taking a strong Alw NW2L group wire to wire over the Kentucky main track. She will be one of two who will likely be gunning for the lead. Top jock aboard helps chances as well. Trainer wins 17% of the time and hits the board 46% of the time. This scratch bred a major contender.
4)STREET VICE(KY) selurnivek R Hoffman 11/1, Daugher of Colonel John has 1 win from 5 starts. Her win came on the grass and her 3 races on the grass are much better runs than her 2 starts on the main track. Don’t think she prefers this surface, prefer others.
5)LORD OF CAUSEWAY(IRE) jollymon J Pimental 11/1, ships in from Ireland after breaking her maiden in her 5th try. She ran a nice 78sp in that race and she will definitely add more speed to the race to help the late runners. Dam won 2 of 19 earning 28k on the grass. Sired by Lord Shanakill who has 33% of his siblings winning races and they have earned 186k.
6)TWIRL(IND) seedly F Ford 26/1, India bred seems up against it in this spot. Sired by Carnival Dancer she has run respectable in her first two starts on the grass. She is still a maiden and would need tremendous improvement to post the upset. I would be surpised if she has any say in the outcome.
7)ENSALATA(KY) deyoto A Lewis 7/1, Just ran 2nd in Kentucky in a ALW NW2L after setting all the early fractions getting an 81sp. This daughter of Medaglia D’Oro will definitely add even more speed to what is expected to be a hot hot pace. Not sure if she will be able to get 8 panels or not but she will likely have an impact on the outcome of the race. Dam won 4 of 28 and 95k.
8)HOLLY HOT SHOT(JPN) aces1211 S Quirrel 7/1, Daughter of Deep Impact ships in from Italy and responded nicely with the switch to the dirt breaking her maiden impressively at 7 furlongs. Question mark as to how she will take to the extra furlong. Dam won 3 of 25 and 145k primarily running on grass. If the ship didn’t take too much out of her she may have a say in the outcome is well. Trainer has 16% wins and 43% in the money.
9)AWESOME PRINCESS(KY) londoner O Brim 9/2, co-favorite has made no mistakes winning her first 2 starts. Daughter of Awesome Again has shown the ability to rate just off the pace in her first two starts. That strategy could bode well in a race loaded with speed. Shouldn’t have a problem stretching out and in fact might prefer the added distance. Her dam was a runner winning 16 times in 49 tries and 757k in earnings with most of that being route races. High percentage trainer wins 21% of the time and hits the board at nearly 53%. Strong contender.
10)FORTY ORO’S(KY) trevsnyder A Dominguez 9/2, The final co-favorite is a daughter of Medaglia D’Oro who has one both of her starts rather easily. The jock knows her well and she does have 2 starts over the course. That could make a difference in this contentious race. She is likely the speed of the speed but will have to contend with a host of other front runners in this spot. If she can get clear of the other speed she might be difficult to catch. Another strong contender.
11)TOO MUCH BOP(WV) easterly1 M Staples 30/1, Yet another undefeated filly in the race. This West Virginia bred daughter of Bop, is the least likely to make it 3 in a row. She beat a couple of small fields in moderate times and she would have to improve upon those speed figs immensely to win this weekend. Her dam won 3 of 6 for 48k. Would surprise if she lights up the tote board.
12)PISTOL PACKIN(FL) stpat J Nabbs 18/1, Florida bred daughter of Musket Man just missed in her debut and then followed that up with a smart score over 6 1/2 furlongs. Dam won 9 of 63 for 293k, however all of those wins were sprinting. That could be why she sits at 18/1. She has outrun her odds in both of her starts already though and perhaps she is good enough to do it again.
This race has it all, front runners, sit off the pace and your come from behind type. Blue bred Awesome Princess is the top choice with the feeling that she can handle the stretch out and lay just off the pace and get first run on the closers. Forty Oro’s holds the top speed fig and did that over this race course and distance. She poses an elusive target but there could be enough speed in here wear her down a bit late. I think Summer Mambo will be the one motoring late to pick off the tired horses.
