I’m Quite Right for Bonanza
Six furlongs
Firm Turf
$85,000
3 years old and up
A small but competitive field of six will be travelling to Denmark for the Mark’s Vet Bonanza Stakes. With up-and-coming three year olds stepping out against seasoned veterans, a four year old mare taking on the boys and stake winners against black type aspirants this varied field still promises to be a competitive event.
The field comprises:
PP1 ANY TIME AT ALL THEFORCE B Schardein 7/2
Lear Fan x Shirley Heights(GB)
This versatile stake-winning mare is able to run on the pace or to take a sit for a sprint home. Although her best form has been over a longer trip she recently ran strongly in a grade 3 five furlong sprint and a repeat of that form would see her figuring prominently in the finish of this event. She has attracted top jockey B. Schardein who can be expected to give this talented mare every opportunity.
PP2 GONE CLUBBING ZWANGO1 M Sheridan 10/1
Gone West x Sadler’s Wells
Gone Clubbing, a majestically bred three year old colt, is seeking a hat-trick of wins as he steps up to the hardest test of his career. Trainer Zwango1 is pitting his charge against the older horses at his stakes debut but has a career record to suggest he may well know what he is doing. Gone Clubbing has relished a return to sprinting after breaking his maiden over nine furlongs. Irrespective of the result in this race it will only be a matter of time before a black type win is placed against the name of this promising colt.
PP3 QUITE RIGHT GAMEHHH S McCubbins 7/5
Rhodes x Razeen
This unfashionably-bred six year old stallion is a proven turf sprinter, currently ranked 15 in his division. Quite Right has experienced a new lease on life recently, with four impressive wins in the last six months. Although he has been relatively disappointing at his last two starts over slightly longer journeys these were preceded by three wonderful wins including a runaway grade 2 win over five furlongs against strong opposition. It could have been expected that a better jockey than the moderately performing McCubbins could have been engaged for Quite Right, who is clearly the yard-stick for this event.
PP4 GORDON GANO KAIF031 J Hempler 9/5
Dynaformer x Spinning World
This nicely bred five year old stallion, Gordon Gano, is running consistently and boasts a 50% place record over his career. He will be well suited by the 6 furlongs and has been astutely placed in this race by his trainer. Gordon Gano scored a very strong allowance win three starts back and since ran very creditably to finish in the money in an unsuitably short grade 2. He has yet to break through for a stakes win but will get a great chance here.
PP5 LATINOEUROPEO ZARZUELA A Givan 6/1
Prosper Fager x Compliance
After a nine month spell, Latineoeuropa has returned to racing in fine style. This lightly raced four year old possesses a great turn of speed and it will be very surprising not to see him leading this field a merry dance from the gate. Latineoeuropa’s last win was at this distance and his rivals will pay dearly if they do not pay him due respect.
PP6 NASHUA TREE 7THHEAVEN S McDowell 27/1
Runaway Groom x Favorite Trick
This is a very optimistic placement by trainer 7thheaven. Nashua Tree, a three year old, has been failing to break through in three year old allowance company and will not be assisted by the engagement of a struggling second year jockey.
In this contrasting field of six I expect Latineoeuropa to break smartly from the gates to lead with Gordon Gano taking up the rearmost position. The pressure will really be applied over the concluding furlong with Quite Right and Any Time At All taking up the running, Gordon Gano and Gone Clubbing making strong challenges from behind. At the finish the class horse of the field Quite Right will exercise his superiority for a handy win.
My selections are:
1st – Quite Right 2nd – Any Time At All 3rd – Gone Clubbing
