Will Chestnut Be The Color Of Victory
(SP)Wyoming-Up this weekend is the featured race the $55,000 Viking Seattle Cap. It will be a long route of thirteen furlongs on the dirt for horses three years or older. It has been a while since there has been a route of this distance in Wyoming and it has drawn a field of seven hopefuls. As a matter of fact, there have seldom been distance races longer than twelve furlongs let alone at the stakes levels. The track record for the distance is several years old held by Your Palaces a horse with 25 wins, 18 of which were stakes level. So lets lake a look at this Saturday’s mostly chestnut colored field.
No Nag Here(IRE) entered by sesho17. Since the beginning of the year this Irish horse by Generous has been stretching out the length of his runs. This has been working well for the closer and he has become very successful getting three of his five wins doing so. He is still looking for that first elusive stakes win though.
Daring Power entered by stablefive. This grand old gentleman is a roan sired by Waquoit. The number of times this old boy has run long routes in his long career can be counted on one hand. Those few times are several years ago and he only occasionally runs the classic distances. Staying in Wyoming may provide some help but he is mainly a sprinter that will be out of his depth in this race.
Crowd Favorite entered by deantroops. The elder chestnut colt is sired by Crowd Pleaser and comes into the race as the odds on favorite. This is another horse that moved to longer route racing this year and has enjoyed modest success doing so while improving his ranking. He has one stakes win and is looking to improve on that here, but will need break from the gate in the lead to do so.
Cricket entered by moonshine. Coming out of gate four is another elder chestnut colt, this one sired by Lemon Drop Kid. This horse has spent most of his career at distance routing and has several stakes win under the saddle. It is kind of hard to decide what kind of style running he prefers, and honestly I don’t think the horse even knows. The best it can be described is a stalking closer because you don’t know what style he will use or how much effort he plans to use doing so.
K’apone entered by kasavage. Our third elder chestnut colt in a row is sired by Carson City and comes out of gate five. He enters into this race with two runner up stakes finishes and is looking to finally break that streak here in Wyoming. He has been improving with each little added distance and will trying his longest race to date.
Flygroom’s Goldie entered by kyrin. Do I see four, yep four elder chestnut colts in a row with this one being sired by Sadler’s Wells. This colt is no stranger to the stakes level and has five wins under the saddle at that level. He likes to close on the field and will surely use that tactic on Saturday. He has stumbled the last couple of times out and is looking to return to his earlier form.
Hurricane Run(IRE) entered by seilern. The last of entries is also chestnut, but this one is an Irish sophomore sired by Law Society. This colt skipped his freshman season and has only just recently notched his maiden win. He has been running exclusively distance routes and slowly improving, but still needs more work to reach the top level. He is a front runner and will have to vigilant or he will get run down by the veterans in this race.
