The ESR LONG ISLANDER
LET CORD – irish’s 5yo Powerscourt (GB) mare makes her second start off a long layoff, and while this is usually a good reason to drop a few bucks at the betting windows, the savvy veteran trainer will be asking this mare to scale an obstacle she has never climbed before. The morning line 4-5 odds will make me a spectator of this nicely bred mare this time around, but she goes on my radar for her next start where I am confident I’ll be the beneficiary of irish’s slick training moves…next time WARSPEAR – kingman returns this nice looking War Pass 3yo filly to the turf this week to take on older fillies and mares in what will be her first endeavor at this distance. Lone turf start resulted in a third place finish where she was gaining ground into the stretch at one mile and a sixteenth, however her lone start beyond that distance found her tiring badly in a 10 furlong dirt allowance race against her own age group. While this is a small field and just about anything can happen , especially against a field of unproven horses, I suspect this filly will do he best racing at a mile on the lawn…look elsewhere JULIA’S DREAM – kingab looks to get off the ESR schneid this week, and just might have the goods to do it here on Saturday. This talented 3yo Dynaformer filly turned in an eye-opening performance last time out when she popped triple digits for the first time finishing 2nd in a ten furlong allowance test against her own age group after romping home by 5 at the same distance in her previous start. Pedigree screams more ground, and at 6-1 I suggest everyone empty their pockets, in what looks like a race for 2nd place…one to beat MIDNIGHT DREARY – only question here is if trots charge will take to the lawn. Proven over the distance, this Dance With Ravens mare tries the turf for the first time, and if she happens to take to the footing, just might be a handful to try and run down in the late going in a race with no proven speed at this distance…one to catch
