THE BREEDERS BOWL DIRT MILE CHAT
In trying a new method for writing a btb article I teamed up with the head honcho of the upstart Blazing Saddles Residency to chat horses and dope races… The outcome might not be what everyone expects but i think it will make a good read… We took the kid gloves off because every trainer and every horse in this race has had a phenomenal season and no one needs any more pats on the back… If you got here you are better than pretty much anything in the sim… But still some are more great than others… The Dirt Mile is one the most important races on the card today and we will here some pretty sharp tongued comments so take this as a warning the faint of heart or thin skinned owners can close this article down now…
markkelly1976 9:33 pm
ok
so kick us off and Ill respond
and you transition and Ill go with it
larry 9:34 pm
btw I agree you did much more work on turf i will balance that with the dirt
PP 1 6/1 TEX CAT(KY)
markkelly1976 9:36 pm
One of the many 6-1 co favs in this race telling me its a bit wide open
larry 9:36 pm
beautifully bred and lightly raced storm cat x mr p… doesn’t really have that one superstar win that marks the best in this race… has top level figs in opens but can he step forward in a race of the best?
markkelly1976 9:37 pm
got mixed feelings on this guy obviously its a hypomating wet dream
larry 9:37 pm
odds are likely a bit overlayish based on how well he is run in opens
markkelly1976 9:37 pm
yet I feel incomplete because he feels like he got in on the basis of that 4 yr old only restricted race last out and will face a harsh battle on the front end today
larry 9:38 pm
not for me but pretty to look at
markkelly1976 9:38 pm
I concur
larry 9:38 pm
as usual
larry 9:38 pm
PP 2 12/1 WATERGATE SCANDAL(KY)
we owe dan a nice commentary haha
after we killed his entry in the turf mile
and he loves this guy for good reason.. the spf’s are amazingly consistent and eye popping large
markkelly1976 9:39 pm
Legend has made it to his 3rd Breeder’s Bowl mile after finishing 3rd in 08 and 1st in 09, perhaps a 2nd place finish today to round out the tri ?
larry 9:40 pm
Dan is hoping he has the missing juice at 6
markkelly1976 9:41 pm
indeed laz his form appears more erratic now but could still have one big one left in him
larry 9:41 pm
and he has prepped for this mile like it was a sprint
markkelly1976 9:41 pm
Only oddity I see is that this prep was a Rodot and not a bought planned one seems extremely odd plus it was some time ago
larry 9:41 pm
will he have the heart in that last click or will he come up short thinking the race is over after 7
certainly classy but his stable mate might be the one to watch
markkelly1976 9:42 pm
Feels like a toss to me this go around but I do acknowledge his greatness and wish him the best
larry 9:42 pm
PP 3 14/1 THE BEGGAR KING(KY)
larry 9:42 pm
Dans two entries are side by side
dan said “Probably one of the more talented 3yo’s I’ve had, this Tiznow colt was pretty good as a 2yo, winning a G1 at a mile, and then as a 3yo won the Equinics mile race. It seems like most G1 winning 2yo’s don’t run on as 3yo’s, but this colt has pedigree on his side, as his half-brother, Doth’raki, won G1’s as a 2yo, 3yo, and 4yo! The Beggar King has been sprinting his last four races including a close 2nd in the King’s Bishop, and I think he should be very sharp for this race.”
markkelly1976 9:43 pm
Has really come to life again as a born again sprinter and I think he is real live today
larry 9:43 pm
Not much to not like other than he again seems condition like the race was going to be 7 panels
he has not showed that the routing world is his domain
markkelly1976 9:44 pm
I agree laz seems incredible value for his odds and looks like a value play to me
markkelly1976 9:44 pm
I am expecting a big run and a top 3 finish
larry 9:44 pm
boy i think I am chatting with a chatbot here
where is mtk?
are you playing poker while we talk?
markkelly1976 9:45 pm
oh sorry natalie portman was on the phone Ive just been going through the motions
larry 9:45 pm
nice
markkelly1976 9:45 pm
she said even though your both from the line of david she prefers Irish man
larry 9:45 pm
PP 4 9/1 HOT AND SPICY(KY)
something else hot and spicy to ponder haha
comes in off a blistering run down in texas
markkelly1976 9:46 pm
Wouldnt you hate to be vampire2 who gave up on this horse after 3 lifetime races?
larry 9:46 pm
2 g1 wins at the distance for the son of awesome again
markkelly1976 9:47 pm
one of the great sim transactions of all time here… I mean its won a Bluegrass Derby and now possible a Breeder’s Bowl
larry 9:47 pm
no doubt dual g1 winners bought on a claim is sweet
multiple I mean haha
markkelly1976 9:47 pm
actually the auction gavel took this one quit smoking the reefer
larry 9:47 pm
jeez busted again and this time in public
markkelly1976 9:48 pm
But this one is super live I mean the Cosmopolitan win shows its legit and his last races show he is fit, whats not to like?
larry 9:48 pm
This horse running record and breeding will make everyone do a double take next time they troll the auction
I love him here… class distance breeding
altogether or separately
markkelly1976 9:49 pm
glad you agree with me whos next
larry 9:49 pm
PP 5 8/1 JUILLET BLUES(KY)
Lenny sends this gorgeous 4 year old out and even the hater in me steps back and applauds
larry 9:50 pm
not on best form but some how lenny’s are always ready to rumble on BB day
markkelly1976 9:51 pm
4th in last yrs edition of this race but his recent form looks a bit off. Perhaps its that he wants exactly a mile and he will get it here
larry 9:51 pm
Think the evil empire did in romeo and left poor juliet with the blues?
I don’t see a big check perhaps a piece of the superfecta?
markkelly1976 9:52 pm
Perhaps but I am thinking he will help set a BB Dirt Mile record but then give way to other runners and finish more mid pack
larry 9:53 pm
You think you see bunny wabbits everywhere
markkelly1976 9:53 pm
Your the one thats done more hash then the beatles and I am the one who sees wabbits?
larry 9:54 pm
PP 6 21/1 INAUGURATION(KY)
INAUGURATION has been great this year, his win in the Eddie Haskell was a great race. He would have been able to draw into the Classic, but we felt the Mile would suit him better. He was a bit of a departure pedigree wise for us and I bred him while I was watching Obama’s inauguration on tv. I think he is sitting on a big race and should run well Saturday. from whirlwind
markkelly1976 9:54 pm
Slightly better then our joint horse honoring Obama (Obamination)
larry 9:55 pm
you can say that twice and I guess honoring the win was a better idea than our class statement
markkelly1976 9:55 pm
guess its sim karma pal
larry 9:55 pm
not sure that these guys are right about which race he was better suited for…
markkelly1976 9:55 pm
This guy was 7th in last yrs BB Juvy so its impressive to see him back again but it was largely on the back of the huge Haskell win
larry 9:55 pm
he might have been better off in the classic
not seeing him having the steppyness for the mile
markkelly1976 9:56 pm
Also could be one of those 9 furlong horses that don’t want 8 or 10 so it definitely bears watching
larry 9:56 pm
mr g x wild again is a sneaky successful combo in the sim so no knocks there
been noticing that trainers whose horses have the points send em whether they are good fit for the race or not
markkelly1976 9:57 pm
I prefer others but he earned his shot and I don’t mind the dice roll
PP 7 16/1 BUSHWHACKED TED(KSA)
one that will appeal to your bargain loving sire soul… Official Flame… But he is another one who has showed up and down form versus classmates and is now stepping up to face grown ups for the first time… 16/1 seems right
larry 10:01 pm
Ran huge last out but the bettis handicap is not the BB mile… and other than a huge second in an open not much to recommend him to those not loving those world cup whistles
markkelly1976 10:02 pm
I agree, interesting horse form was off the map for a long time but the resurgence last out does give some hope
Like you said hes a bit up against it but you gotta be in it to win it so I dont blame the owners a bit for giving it a go
larry 10:03 pm
you see hope everywhere…
markkelly1976 10:03 pm
You know Im an incurable optimist
larry 10:03 pm
you are to optimism what the pacific is too oceans
markkelly1976 10:03 pm
Big and near california?
larry 10:04 pm
but this dream ends with the gates opening
PP 8 6/1 K’S GIANT DOSSIER(KY)
ah finally we get to a real contender
markkelly1976 10:04 pm
I don’t know what a Dossier is but it sounds like the kind of thing I tried to sneak a peak at as a 15 yr old
larry 10:05 pm
yeesh its too easy so I will say this one has been taking it easy since that huge equinics score
markkelly1976 10:05 pm
Agreed that makes me wonder if the connections didn’t get a little gunshy after those less then optimum g2 tries
larry 10:06 pm
and lets just say the FBI keeps a dossier on you since your forays into Nambla
markkelly1976 10:06 pm
Something tells me this is a nice one but wants longer then a mile despite the huge Equinics score
larry 10:07 pm
another ledwith horse that guy trains em up to these races in some unique ways
but the success can not be argued with
PP 9 21/1 ON THE ROAD(KY)
the second super entry
markkelly1976 10:08 pm
Tied for longest shot on the board
larry 10:08 pm
ON THE ROAD, named after the Jack Kerouac book, not the Willie Nelson song, is a mystery. He has plenty of class and talent but has been all over the place this year. I have no idea what to expect from him this week, but if Jeepster doesn’t draw into the Classic, I will probably scratch him and let Jeepster run in the Mile. Whirlwind
guess we know what happened here
markkelly1976 10:09 pm
This guy has been a disaster since January if he wins this race Ill bet the Mayan 2012 prophecy at 10-1
larry 10:09 pm
a couple of monster efforts in dubai and delaware get him here but how many BB runners have a 32 in their last 3?
markkelly1976 10:10 pm
A godlike turf to dirt bounce is his only legit shot in here and if he wins Dr. Dipper Lip is going to be all over this like Mulder over an X File
larry 10:10 pm
guess form could not be more off
larry 10:10 pm
uh I think Dr Dipperlip owns this one
markkelly1976 10:10 pm
Even he would think a win here deserves a second look, next..
larry 10:11 pm
PP 10 15/1 LEFT OF REASON(KY)
the place where most of your opinions are born
markkelly1976 10:11 pm
LENNY LENNY LENNY
larry 10:11 pm
another glorified sprinter in the mile
markkelly1976 10:11 pm
I actually like lenny a lot he’s a nice guy and bought us dinner at Buffalo WildWings a few years back
larry 10:12 pm
is this the sprint I am looking at or the mile card?
markkelly1976 10:12 pm
Don’t be so quick to dismiss he’s never tried 8 but there is no reason to think he wont thrive at it
larry 10:12 pm
yeah i always like a horse that is trying something new in the BB
how do these horses qualify?
markkelly1976 10:13 pm
While I agree proven mile form would be nice I think this guy is live
larry 10:13 pm
I guess 10-12 win or place
but i see this one ending up 10-13
Can You FEEL IT? a legit Miler next
PP 11 6/1 ISLAND PARADE(ENG)
markkelly1976 10:14 pm
Oh my, a dirt loving Dansili I am going to be the anti IANT and say ewww thats just wrong
larry 10:14 pm
anything that wins by dansili surprises me.. turf dirt or water
but man this guy is the real deal
markkelly1976 10:15 pm
That being said I think his running style is perfect for a score in todays race
larry 10:15 pm
consistent at graded level consistent at this distance
yes this is the kind of step up I like to see
markkelly1976 10:15 pm
Jock K ledwith can stay off the speed then pounce when they start to fade
larry 10:15 pm
dominate the lower level and then step up
yes I really like this one and agree with his co=choice status
beware of the cooldude
larry 10:17 pm
that isn’t cold mark
its cool
PP 12 10/1 POWER RANKING(KY)
markkelly1976 10:17 pm
My favorite name in todays field
just sounds powerful
larry 10:17 pm
yes maybe… but his form is more RANK-ing
markkelly1976 10:18 pm
Agreed he has tailed off considerably since his good early season form so its hard to get too excited about him today
larry 10:18 pm
crushed in previous 3 before a nice run in BGC Classic
looked the winner there at a mile
markkelly1976 10:18 pm
One nice thing is his sire Awesome Again had a nice undefeated filly take the real life BB Juvy Filly race so perhaps that will help him keep his lofty sire standing in the sim
larry 10:19 pm
unfortunately that race was 9 panels
I am amazed by the lack of superstar looking horses in this field
markkelly1976 10:20 pm
hmm we will never know but I think your a bit crazy this is a talented field even if a few are off form
larry 10:20 pm
PP 13 6/1 MOTION DISMISSED(KY)
larry 10:21 pm
This one looks the part.. and is running the way you would want
markkelly1976 10:21 pm
A Lawyer Ron huh? Congrats to Dixie for getting a Lawer Ron to the big time
larry 10:21 pm
Motion Dismissed (Dirt Mile) – This guy is a funny one. After showing massive ability as a 3yo (huge 114 speed figure in just his 9th start), he seemed to plateau. And it lasted forever… he never could take that next step, and in fact was having problems consistently beating allowance horses. This summer, after finally getting him in reasonable form, figured might as well make that move up to stakes. And he responded with a solid 2nd in a fast overnight stakes. The G1 for 4yo’s only popped up on the schedule, and that fit him to a tee. He proved that was no fluke by beating solid runners of all ages in the G2 after that. He’s had a pretty busy campaign, so I wanted to give him a break after that race to get him ready for the BB. But I didn’t want to go into the big one off an 8-week break. So I gave him a nice easy spin in an allowance which was solely a prep. He’s set up perfectly for a huge effort on Saturday. Based on how sharp he is right now, I honestly think he’s the one they all have to beat. The fact that there should be a TON of early speed to set up his kick is a big positive as well.
dixie is the ef hutton of the sim so when he talks i print every word
markkelly1976 10:22 pm
Agreed this horse is a testament to patience and solid training
larry 10:22 pm
Dixie is by far the best trainer not stabled at grs
markkelly1976 10:23 pm
Hmm was that a paid advertisement
larry 10:23 pm
this horse looks way tough to beat
markkelly1976 10:23 pm
He is also very dangerous since he is that stalking type that if he fires big could get a nice share of the purse today
larry 10:23 pm
I say winner
markkelly1976 10:23 pm
bold pick but not mine..
larry 10:23 pm
PP 14 17/1 KILLING GAME(KY)
markkelly1976 10:24 pm
Only 10 career starts definately the rook in todays field
larry 10:24 pm
another who utilized the easy 3 year old points to make his way into the field
markkelly1976 10:24 pm
But admit it wouldn’t you have thought you had a monstah after that Ark Derby run
larry 10:24 pm
can’t argue with the fast track or the killer breeding
the labbatts race would not have convince me otherwise… but I see the post position as a foreshadow
markkelly1976 10:25 pm
Yeah I am not feeling this guy in this particular race but think he will have a great 4 yr old season and I’d even love to see him try turf
larry 10:25 pm
how the heck did this colt run in an oaks?
markkelly1976 10:26 pm
the same way you use the ladies bathroom when the mens line is too long
Its not really an Oaks just poorly named
larry 10:26 pm
those canadians are weird…
markkelly1976 10:26 pm
Insert molson triple X commercial
in 3-2-1
larry 10:26 pm
balata
so who do you like pal…
I am going with the trainer of trainers… Dixiedotco
markkelly1976 10:27 pm
Give me a Hot And Spicy – The Beggar King – Left of Reason trifecta box
Go Big or Go Home right?
larry 10:27 pm
I will say your motion is dismissed
markkelly1976 10:28 pm
Thank you Judge Judy
larry 10:28 pm
motion dismissed over island parade over k’s dossier… chalky chalky chalky
markkelly1976 10:28 pm
Way to be the simulated Hammering Laz Greenberg
you got no chance now
thats the ultimate jinx
larry 10:29 pm
hey who rolled that grnade in here… the boys from GRS are going to call for a printing licence to be revoked
markkelly1976 10:29 pm
Yep your public enemy 1 right now
larry 10:30 pm
