Fillies and mares, 2 years old
The Rockefeller features eight 2yo fillies that are unproven, most coming from listed stakes or allowances. But, most of these fillies have been impressive in their last race or races. We will see which filly gets their first graded stakes victory…
PP #1 Tale Of Royalty-Tale Of Ekati x Kingmambo x Broad Brush, 9-2 with A Craig up (23%)
Stable: Tops Stable (Universal Racing Club)
This 2yo Tale Of Ekati filly has races five times in her career, and never been out of the exacta, with three wins, and two thirds. After starting her career with back to back 2nds, she broke her maiden, than won an allowance. Last time out, she tried a listed stake for the first time at 6 furlongs, and tried a new running style. As the second choice, she broke towards the rear of the field. She moved into striking position coming around the turn, and drew off nicely to win by 1 ¼. She earned an 80 speed figure. Probably will be in mid pack early, and figures at 9-2.
PP #2 Street Hustle-Street Sense x Distorted Humor x Strike The Gold, 7-1 with R Stelle up (8.6%)
Stable: At The Wire Thoroughbreds (MIDAS)
After starting her career with a win on dirt, she came back in a dirt allowance finishing 2nd to last. Next out she tried turf for the first time in her career. She was the 2nd choice of five, and won by 1 ¾ with a 68 speed. Next out she tried stakes company for the first time at 8f. But that try was to no avail finishing last of 5 by almost 10. Her next try, was her latest race in the G3 Fifth Of Jack. She came into the race as a long shot, but made a good showing for her odds. She was far back early, but came with a good run to get 5th beaten only 1 ¼. Not sure exactly where she’ll be early, but won’t be near the lead. Figures if she runs back to her last.
PP #3 Miss Sweeden-Deep Impact x Lemon Drop Kid x Pentire, 4-1 with L Anderson (11.3%)
Stable: Gosford City Stables (NA)
This Deep Impact filly debuted as the 7-2 favorite in a local bred maiden special weight at 6.5 furlongs last time out. She broke in mid pack of a large field. She moved into 3rd at the 3rd call, less than a half length down. She wore down the leaders late to win by ¾ of a length. In the victory, she earned a 79 speed figure. As in her debut, I expect her to race in mid pack early. But at 4-1 I like others better, as she has only one career start.
PP #4 Easteregghunt-Green West x Awesome Again x Empire Maker, 7-1 with J Bradley up (17.9%)
Stable: Smokeglack Stables (Universal Racing Club)
This filly has raced seven times in six months, which is a lot for a 2yo. She started her career with three starts on dirt, with a win and two thirds. Her four races on turf have all been stakes, two listed and two graded. Last out in the G3 Fifth Of Jack at 6 furlongs she defeated Street Hustle when she finished 3rd. She sat right off the pace early and moved into 3rd only a head behind at the 3rd call. She ran a very good race, but it was only good enough for 3rd beaten ¾ of a length. She earned an 81 speed. I expect her to be up close early, but is too inconsistent for my liking.
PP #5 Yofune Nushi-Medaglia D’Oro x Storm Cat x Mr. Prospector, 5-2 with A Tuscha up (11.4%)
Stable: Given Stables: Fire And Blood (GR Simsters)
This filly is out of Mother Of Dragons, which makes her a half sister to Tatsu, the Equinics Turf Sprint winner who has earned more than $4 million. She has five siblings, three are graded winners, and the other two are stakes winners, so she has a lot to live up to. After breaking her maiden on dirt and then finishing 2nd in an allowance, she tried turf for the first time last time out. In a 7 furlong NW2L allowance she went gate to wire, taking the lead out of the gate and hanging tough late to win by 1 ½. She earned an 82 speed. Will be up close early, and I love most everything about her.
PP #6 Queen Mary-Henrythenavigator x Victory Gallop x Seattle Slew, 5-1 with Ni Ambrose (11%)
Stable: The CVBear Not-Evil Racing Empire (NA)
This filly is out of Winning Move, a stakes winner of more than 200k. She raced for the first time last time at 7 furlongs in a maiden special. She went gate to wire speeding out of the gate. She opened up a 3 length lead going down the backstretch. She had the same length of lead going around the turn, and kept going to win by 2 lengths with an 80 speed figure. Probably will have the early lead, and I like her better than the other 1 for 1 entrant.
PP #7 Mogard Candy-Academy Award x Big Shuffle x Caerleon, 10-1 with W Laird up (8.9%)
Stable: Stickan Stables (New Residency)
This filly has the most stakes points in the field, but is the longest shot. She has always earned a check, never finishing worse than 5th. Last out she raced in the Swain’s Babe at 6 furlongs. She sat in 2nd right off the leader early. She was still in 2nd going around the turn, but tired late to finish 4th beaten 5 ¼. Her speed figure was the lowest since her maiden breaker. Two back she was 4th in the G2 Young Lady, she ran around in place, beaten 3 ½. Will be close to the leaders early, but I think her form is on the downgrade.
PP #8 Smile Nico-Fusaichi Pegasus x Flying Spur x Future Storm, 7-1 with T Cooper up (12.4%)
Stable: Paton Stables (Hispano Parlante)
This filly is out of a grade 3 winner at two who earned almost 200k. She has been heavily raced this year running 8 times, never having more than 4 weeks rest. After running in G1 and G2’s she came back to allowance company last out. She was the 2nd choice of four. She was 6 back going down the backstretch, and moved into 3rd going around the turn. But she couldn’t catch the winner late beaten two with an 82 speed figure. Her two before that were G1 and G2’s. Her better run of the two was in the G2 Young Lady where she lost the bob for 4th to Mogard Candy. Should be towards the back early, and I think she could fill out the exotics.
