Two Standouts in the Gowader

The two standouts here are the favourites ARTEMIS AND APOLLO(IRE) and STORM DOOR(KY) who I suspect will tear this small field apart and make it a two horse run in the rush for the line.  There are a few others who could surpise these but would have to be a very good run from them.  Interesting race anyway.

1 NOTABLE JAB(KY)

Record: 16-5-6-0
Owner: lordbear3
Jockey: C Lane
Odds: 3/1

Has had good results over the mile has this mare out of Curlin particularly at Stakes level where it has found the going a little easier than compared to Graded company.  While not really cracking open the feeling of belonging in Graded company has been more on the fringe of maybe knocking on the door and not quite getting the results yet.  Small field here and while it is a step up from Stakes level may well be one of its best chances to get a good result.

2 OILILY JAYCEE(ENG)

Record: 13-6-1-1
Owner: zeco9
Jockey: J Kirby
Odds: 28/1

After getting a good start to the 2010 season with a win first up at G1 level over the mile she then deteriorated in her next 2 starts finishing at the rear in both races for a non result.  In what was only her 4th start to the season in her last run out, she won over 6 furlongs at Allowance level with a speed of 96.  Does like to come from the rear of the field and looks like a good closer – this is much much harder but has won in this company before.  Surprise packet of the race and excellent odds if she puts it together.

3 FORAGING(KY)

Record: 12-6-1-2
Owner: dirtriot
Jockey: C De Vito
Odds: 14/1

Out of Forestry who has produced a number of Graded winners over the last few seasons, is this 3yo who has really stepped up particuarly in her last run.  Ran in a G2 over 9 furlongs in March and then again over the mile in april on an of track and in both races she faded badly in the run to the line after leading for much of the race.  In June amazingly she won a Stakes race over the mile – amazing because her speed was only 56!!  Her last run is where she has really stepped up producing another Stakes win over the mile with a speed of 110.  That was after a 3 month spell which obviously did her well.  Every chance today – if she can perform like her last run she will really surprise this field – good odds at 14/1.

4 STORM DOOR(KY)

Record: 18-6-4-3
Owner: laserbarn
Jockey: M Lund
Odds: 5/2

Very well bred – in fact excellently bred.  And after an auspicious start to the year her last couple of runs she has been putting it all together.  A win in August at Stakes over the mile was then followed by an average run at G3 level over 9 furlongs for a 5th place finish.  Her last run back slightly in distance resulted in a win and a speed of 114.  Her distance here looks about perfect for her and is in excellent form.  Very fast – has every possible chance of a win here today.

5 ARTEMIS AND APOLLO(IRE)

Record: 13-5-4-4
Owner: 2tohold
Jockey: B Gulch
Odds: 8/5

Amazing statistic for this mare out of Montjeu(IRE) is that of her 13 career starts never once has she finished worse than 3rd place.  You would have to say just on that, that she has every chance of finishing top3 here again today!  With wins which include the G1 Chestnut Stakes over the mile and her latest over 8.5 furlongs in the G3 The Jersey Oaks and a speed of 113, she has a favourite and top chance of winning this today.  One of two really who has a very good chance of winning out of this small field.

6 X GAMES(KY)

Record: 19-6-4-3
Owner: vanilla
Jockey: M Johnson
Odds: 10/1

Has won at Stakes level only 2 runs ago over 8.5 furlongs with a speed of 106. The distance is no problem in far as making it – if anything she wants longer – a lot longer.  Her last run was over 10.5 furlongs and she was still closing when crossing in 3rd place.  This will be far too short for her and probably a little too classy as wel.

7 CAPTAIN AWESOME(KY)

Record: 15-5-3-4
Owner: lasthope
Jockey: K Kirby
Odds: 5/1

Captain AWesome out of Awesome Again has been good, in fact very good at picking up results particularly at Stakes level.  Although not awesome yet in Graded company, her best result to date would have to be a 2nd place finish at G1 level in June of this year.  The mile though is really just a bit too long for her – far better placed over the 7 furlong range.  Will tire here and fade in the run to the line.
