A Genuine Chance

By winning the Grade II Cotton Handicap, Genuine Orange earned a 14^th divisional ranking and a possible van ride to nearby New York in three weeks for the Breeders Bowl Distaff.

The win was the second straight graded win for the daughter of Hansel and came courtesy of an excellent plan by trainer Donut carried out by jockey R Johnston.  While Plant a Tree and Beta Cat dueled for the lead, Genuine Orange sat just off them, clear of traffic in the third spot, then swooped by in the stretch and was never challenged.

It was the eighth win in 21 starts for Genuine Orange, who has now earned over $620,000.

Beta Cat, after disposing of Plant a Tree, who faded to eighth, was collared by Wild Cat Tales for the place, but gamely held off the favorite, the hard-charging Stormshaft.

Stormshaft, Whitener, Button, and Donner all come out of the race with ratings that give them a chance to join Genuine Orange in New York for one Breeders Bowl race or another.
