The Sanford Park

The Sanford Park Stakes will be run over six furlongs on the turf for a fat sum of 75k in purse money! The race is a bargain bred race put on by the knightmare run bargain residency. The series has done a great job providing bargains a place to run. Popularity seems to remain strong with the series. The Sanford Park should be another fine two year old bargain race.

The field is ten strong and should be plenty competitive with no horse favored by the odds makers better than CATCH THE BEEL at 3/1. Now let us take a look at the field:

1-STRONGHOLD GABRIAL (SAF)                          11/1

STRONGHOLD x ANGE GABRIAL x MAJESTIC LIGHT

Trainer: MCMARCUS

Jockey: D Brennan

Unraced

Eleven to one is not too long of odds for a bargain that is unraced going right into stakes. That lack of experience more than likely will be costly, but I am a fan of the Kaldoun bloodlines over Majestic Light on the dam’s side. The quality of the dds and turfyness of it makes this colt an interesting sleeper.

2-JUROR DUTY (NY)                                       16/1

JUROR x KETTLE WON x CRAFTY PROSPECTOR

Trainer: LGBOST2YOL

Jockey: P Ornstar

Career: 3-1-0-0 $10,852

She won a maiden claim on turf over seven furlongs. She came back and did not like racing on the wet grass. She is another bargain with the talent in her DDS slot. She will be hard pressed in this one and deserves her long shot status.

3-MISALLOCATION (FR)                               4/1

CREACHADOIR x WAY OF LIGHT x GROOM DANCER

Trainer: DESBARGAIN

Jockey: S Hommell

Career: 2-1-0-1 $31,224

The odds makers know something with this filly. She is very well bred with prominent sires such as Kingmambo, Sadler’s Wells, Woodman, and Blushing Groom in her pedigree. She faltered last time out on wet turf a bit, but she broke maidens over six furlongs in her first ever start. She posted a brisk 71 speed figure while winning by one and a quarter lengths in that race. She will sit in a good position in this one to pounce on the competition down the stretch.

4-SPEED CODE (CA)                                        6/1

DESERT CODE x ARTAX x ARAZI

Trainer: MTKBARGAIN

Jockey: Z Ayya

Career: 4-1-1-0 $23,047

This turf  loving colt features a lot of Mr. Prospector over Blushing Groom in its pedigree. In three career turf starts SPEED CODE has finished fifth, first, and second. He posted a 66 speed figure when he was beat by CATCH THE BEEL over six and a half furlongs on the turf. This race is a better fit for SPEED CODE then his last duel with CATCH THE BEEL, and he will have a top jockey in Ayya up. Strong contender!

5-CATCH TH E BEEL (NZ)                             3/1

SAVABEEL x CATCHER IN THE RYE x PALATABLE

Trainer: HAWKZ2

Jockey: B Tate

Career: 3-2-1-0 $70,250

I love this pedigree and this colt is certainly deserving of his favored status. SAVABEEL is by far an underrated bargain sire, and once again bargain specialist Hawkz capitalizes where others fail. Having never finished worse than second its hard to imagine this colt not being in the money. He has won at five and he has won at six and a half. He consistently has shown a pension for speed. I’m not betting against!

6-HAUNTING VISION (KY)                                      8/1

PETIONVILLE x VISION AND VERSE x PASSING ZONE

Trainer: MKBARGAIN

Jockey: F Solomon

Career: 3-1-0-1 $19,080

Broke maidens first time out on dirt only to follow up with two less than stellar performances. The Seeking the Gold over Storm Cat is nice, and the odds are not too long. Petionville progeny tend to do well in bargain races, and this one cannot be ruled out.

7-REHEATED PIZZA (CA)                              10/1

DESERT CODE x CRAFTY C.T. x HONOUR AND GLORY

Trainer: JDTROT40

Jockey: P Nation

Career: 3-1-1-0 $12,171

Broke maidens in a 40k claimer then followed that up with a 20k claimer second place finish over a mile and a half. I love this horse not only because I just ate reheated pizza, but also I love the Honour and Glory DDS. Here is a runner with plenty of potential who can contend in this one.

8-SWEET SANETTE (SAF)                              8/1

JALLAD x NATIONAL ASSEMBLY x ROYAL PEROGATIVE

Trainer: STCDRAGNIL

Jockey: R Radzinsky

Career: 4-1-01 $34,520

Has consistently posted speeds between 58 and 50 regardless of surface. The Jallad filly has a knack for consistency, but I am going to have to pass on this one today. She should be a solid competitor nonetheless.

9-SHARP QUILL (FR)                                                6/1

DR FONG x RUN SOFTLY x EL MOXIE

Trainer: hkbarfranc

Jockey: C Orza

Career: 1-1-0-0 $16,500

Broke maidens first time out at same distance as this race. Here is a very well bred colt by Viento with Roberto lines over Deputy Minister lines. Viento chose El Moxie for the dds which is a choice I am very fond of. We need to see a repeat performance to know SHARP QUILL is for real. Based on the breeding I believe he has an excellent shot in this one.

10-MARI’S PLEASURE (PA)                                     11/1

LYCIUS x MARI’S BOOK x FABULOUS PLEASURE

Trainer: FUZZYCAT2

Jockey: K Shelly

Career: 3-1-0-1 $16,796

This mass. Bred has not shown much since breaking maidens first time out. She did post her best speed on a dirt off track last time out with a 65. With Bold Ruler in the pedigree she certainly could surprise us and show the ability for turf sprints.

CONCLUSION:

SPEED CODE beats CATCH THE BEEL to the early lead while MISSALLOCATION and REHEATED PIZZA sit deep in the back with SHARP QUILL even further back running dead last in the early going. As we hit the mid way point CATCH THE BEEL will have taken over the top spot with SPEED CODE hanging onto the second position as MISSALLOCATION begins to press closer to the front. Down the stretch MISSALLOCATION comes on strong to edge CATCH THE BEEL by a nose with SHARP QUILL unleashing hell to go from last to third before running out of time.
