G2 Flying Children

The Flying Children Stakes is a Grade 2 race in Surrey England. This race is for all horses 2 years old going 5 furlongs on the firm turf. The winner will take home the majority share of the $250,000 purse and we have only 4 horses taking the gate to compete.

1. DEPTREE (MD) 2 year old colt (Deputy Storm X Danzig X Kingmambo) This colt is trained by Thechef, and is eligible for local breed races but is obviously far beyond that. Having broke his maiden on first asking going 5 furlongs. OK, not too shabby but where the excellence begins to show is his next start. In a restricted allowance race he wins going 6 furlongs by 3 ½ lengths. A complete dominance of the field. He was then entered in a graded race going 5 furlongs where he posted an excellent 81 speed but finished a dismal 4th. I think 5 furlongs is fine for him and he is fast as the 2nd choice in this race he is a very nice colt.

2. ROCKY ROCKETTE (KY) 2 year old filly (Stormy Atlantic X Street Cry X El Prado) Trained by Bigdaddyp, the favorite in this race just happens to be a filly. She has 5 starts to her name and 2 wins. She won her first two races breaking her maiden going 6 furlongs, and then a stakes win going 4.5. She has not won since but has consistently been placed in tough competition. She has run in graded races with her best finish in the G2 Cherry Hilton where she finished 5th. She really needs to step up her game with a best speed of 78 in her maiden win she needs to show more to get in here. The short field will help and I noticed something with my 2 year olds if they throw a good number then decrease they want the other surface. It is worth a try. Still this is a short field and she is the favorite.

3. STONED HENGE (IRE) 2 year old colt (Mastercraftsman X Dynaformer X Gone west) This colt is trained by Ceclaim31, and has two races to his name. He started his career in a off track maiden special weight. He ran 2nd and finished with a 71 speed going 6 furlongs. His second race on the firm turf was much better; he was able to get his feet in and won by a length posting a 76 speed. He will probably do well here I actually like Mastercraftsman a lot as a sire and the back end is as solid as it gets. Dynaformer will show a preference for distance and his he mom never showed much but he is obviously out performing those genetics. Good luck he should do well.

4. FANTASY FOOTBALL (JPN)2 year old colt (Daiwa Major X Danzig X Mill Reef) Trained by Lime, this excellently named colt has 4 starts to his name. He won at first asking with a 72 speed going 6 furlongs. In his next two starts he was unable to best that speed and it took until last time out to beat that initial speed. In his last start he ran a closing second in an open allowance race he posted a 78 speed for that effort and showed he has talent. I would suspect from his breeding that the shorter distance might not be to his preference but I think he can hit top three here and move on to bigger and better things.
