Favorite romps in Roo That Shins Stakes

Oddsmakers were right on the money once again this year, as favorite Devil’s Triangle made it look easy down the stretch to grabs a three and a quarter length victory in this week’s Roo That Shins Stakes.   This was the fourth career stakes win for the five year old daughter of Sadler’s Wells and her eleventh win overall in her thirty five career starts.   The win inches her ever closer to that half a million dollar earnings mark, taking her to $470735 in career paychecks.  It also inches her a up a bit in the Turf Sprint Division, giving her a 115 post-race ranking.  As expected, payouts at the betting window were rather slim, with the winner paying $3.30 $2.10 $2.10 across the board.  Exotics were dismal, with an $11.30 payout in the exacta and $16.30 in the trifecta.

Helisha’s Wood got out front early, shaking off an early challenge by Around Here to grab a clear cut lead.  She only managed a half a length by first call, but was able to settle in and legthen it to one and a quarter by the half post.  With Around Here fading quickly, and the closers having to come back from five to six lengths off the pace, she still had a solid three lengths as they past third call and headed into the stretch.  Those three lengths didn’t last long though, as Devil’s Triangle just made it evaporate just into the stretch, flying by to take control of the race down the stretch.  No one touched could even challenge her late, and she crossed the wire three and a quarter in front of the field.  Hottie Wit A Body showed a solid close as well, and managed to just edge out Helisha’s Wood for second.  Helisha’s Wood was a solid third, three and a half out at the wire.
