The Slugger Handicap

Welcome to Kentucky for the running of the Grade3 “The Slugger Handicap” over a Mile and Half on the Firm Turf.

We have a small but select field of 5 on their way around to the start so lets have a look at the field and see if we can find the winner.

1.            Felinetetherball – 16- 5-4-1

Is coming into this race in great form. Last start he sat behind the leader before sprinting clear over 12 furlongs to win by 2-1/2 lengths with a 103SP.

2.            Matisyahu – 46- 26-9-2

Comes into this with a last start win in the Grade3 CEO Classic where he sat just off the lead before unleashing a powerful finish to win by a widening 2-3/4 lengths with an 112SP. If he brings that form again today he will be hard to beat.

3.            The Beast Enters – 23- 5-5-1

Will go straight to the front and if he can get a couple of cheap early sectionals he may be able to kick clear and give a good sight for his supporters. 4 starts ago he was run down in the straight but the 110SP that he posted would be good enough to get into the placings here.

4.            Kafziel Tete – 38- 9-9-4

Hasn’t posted a SP below 100 in his last 6 runs and that type of consistency is hard to find. He will go forward and given his consistent speed figures he is one horse who may be able to hang in there at the end of the race.

5.            Winter Quest – 27- 9-9-3

Although down on form this son of Rainbow Quest is a Grade1 winner who has to be respected here. He will be back in the field early and if there is any speed on look for him to be charging late.

A tricky race little race to assess but I have found 2 – 5 – 4 for my Trifecta.

I wish all horses a safe run and all the trainers the best of luck.
