The Dude Stakes
Grade 1 – Purse $500,000
Restricted to 3 Year Olds
6.5 furlongs on Dirt

Today we are at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia California for the running of the “G1 Dude Stakes”, a six and a half furlong race on the dirt featuring some of the best three year olds the Sim has to offer. They’re racing for the winner’s share of the $500,000. This is a closely matched group so jockey tactics and racing luck will probably play important roles in determining the winner.

Here is a closer look at the field:

crash99 barn
c gerhke                                  9/2

Out of the crash99 barn is this three year old PRACTICAL JOKE colt out of the Sim Mare MO VIGILANTE. He has made five previous Graded Stakes starts and has finished in the money in three of those and comes in on a streak of two straight wins. Two back he ran 103 speed and went gate to wire at the “G1 Kewl Whipp Stakes” and last time out he ran 100 speed over a six furlong track at the “G1 Kingabs Sprint” and beat WESTERN GUNNER by half a length. He comes in well rested and should go off as one of the favorites and might be tough to beat.

h ross                                     7/1

Out of the brightvlr barn is this three year old NOT THIS TIME colt out of the Sim Mare SIAMO IN GUERRA. He has finished in the money in five of his eight career starts including four wins including wins in his last two starts. Two back he ran 101 speed and took home the win at the “G2 No Work Today Stakes” and last time out he ran 103 speed at the “G2 Pea Shooters Handicap” where he beat TAP LIMIT by more than two lengths. Like many others in the field he will look to run near the back and will fight for a spot on the board as they come down the stretch.

#5

elkstables1 barn

t ace                                       11/1

Out of the elkstables1 barn is this three year old JUSTIFY colt out of the Sim Mare MALIBU MOON’S LADY. His last five starts have all come at Graded Stakes with the most recent coming in late March when he ran 96 speed and finished fifth at the “G1 Kewl Whipp Stakes”. In his only other start this year he went gate to wire at the “G2 Saint Vincent” where he beat NEUTRONIC by less than a length. He should like the distance here but will need more speed if he hopes to find a spot on the board against this competitive field of fourteen.

#9
esquilino
asrcrawf barn
p long                                    11/1

Out of the asrcrawf barn is this three year old scratch bred GHOSTZAPPER ( x DANZIG x SEATTLE SLEW) colt. He had a win as a two year old at the “G1 Dell Computer Futurity” where he ran 92 speed and beat UNITE by a length. Three consecutive Grade 1 starts since then have resulted in a twelfth place finish at the “G1 Breeders Bowl Juvenile”, a seventh place finish at the “G1 Vermont is for Lovers”, and a fourth place finish last time out at the “G1 Arkansas Juvenile”. He drops back in distance here after three straight races at more than a mile and he should benefit and might be a nice surprise pick as he competes out of gate number nine.

He comes in well rested and should benefit in the drop in distance back to six furlongs.

He will drop back to this distance for the first time in six starts will likely go to the front early and will hope to have enough speed to hold off all latecomers.
