The New Yorker
Grade 1 – Purse $3,000,000
Restricted to 3 Year Olds
12 furlongs on Dirt
We have a talented group of three year old colts and geldings ready to tackle a challenge in their young racing careers – going a mile and a half. The track will be fast with perfect weather on Saturday with sunshine in the forecast and a day time high of 76. CHINOE took home the first two legs of the Triple Crown and all eyes will be on him as he looks to join an elite group who have won all three prestigious races. The race, run on dirt over a mile and a half, will be offering up a total purse of $3,000,000 and is set to go off at a post time of 3:00 PM EST. A total of fourteen horses have drawn into the field with only four having raced in either of the previous Triple Crown Races.
Here is a closer look at the field:

chinoe
mitole barn
d givins 5/1
Out of the mitole barn is this three year old CURLIN colt out of the Sim Mare HART ROAD. He comes in undefeated in five starts this year and he is on the verge of something historical as he goes for the Triple Crown here today. He started his pursuit with a 106 speed win at the “G1 Bluegrass Derby” where he beat REVATI by more than two lengths. He followed that up last time out with 108 speed at the “G1 Middle Jewel Stakes” where he beat RATIONAL PHAROAH by three and a half lengths. In all five of his wins during the streak he has run in the middle of the pack before kicking it into high gear as they come down the stretch. The only question that remains for him and this field of fourteen is how they will handle the twelve furlong distance. I like his chances here and will be watching closely along with many others in the SIM.

night flight
fdllodgeb barn
j dawg 11/1
Out of the fdllodgeb barn is this three year old FLIGHTLINE gelding out of the Sim Mare CAT IN THE DARK. His last seven races have all come at Graded Stakes and include a win at the “G3 Darling Squash Futurity”, runner-up finishes at the “G1 Sparkling Wine Stakes” and “G2 Fountain of Ute”, and a third place finish at the “G1 Bluegrass Derby” last time out. He comes in well rested and will look to run near the back of the pack and will need to time his move perfectly at this distance if he hopes to run down the early leaders.
#7
ouyen hall
nikkik barn
h desitter 9/1
Out of the nikkik barn isthis three year old TAPIT colt out of the Sim Mare OUTBACK HALL. He started his career HOT with a streak of five straight wins with the last coming in late November of last year when he ran 97 speed at the “G3 Pleasure Stakes” and beat MARCH WINDS by a head. His three year old campaign began with a sixth place finish at the “G1 Vermont is 4 Lovers” and he followed that up with back to back third place finishes at the “G1 Arkansas Juvenile” and last time out at the “G1 Middle Jewel Stakes”. He has the speed to compete here but I am not sure he will handle the distance.
#12
fast ghost’s cry
rubber15 barn
k ledwith 7/1
Out of the rubber15 barn is this three year old GHOSTZAPPER colt out of the Sim Mare FAST BERNIE’S CRY. He battled CHINOE three back with 104 speed at the “G1 Corkscrew Stakes” and came within a quarter length of getting the win. He followed that up with a 94 speed eleventh place finish at the “G1 Bluegrass Derby” and last time out impressed with 103 speed at the “G1 Middle Jewel Stakes” where he finished fourth. Three races in five weeks could certainly have impact on his performance here and the extra distance will be a tough challenge.
#2
ouyen keiro
nomadic barn
f lirt 9/1
Out of the nomadic barn is this three year old BOLT D’ORO colt out of the Sim Mare FINKE IRON. He has five wins in eight career starts including two at Graded Stakes which came at the “G3 Legoland” and last time out at the “G2 Captain Hook” when he ran 102 speed and beat NETFLIX HERO by two and a half lengths. He will look to conserve energy early on and should have enough left in the tank to compete with the frontrunners as they make the turn for home.
#4
no lies told
cdog100 barn
c nay 6/1
Out of the cdog100 barn is this three year old scratch bred LIAM’S MAP ( x WILD AGAIN x BROAD BRUSH) colt. He has finished in the money in all but one of his ten career starts including four wins. Three back he ran 104 speed at a nine furlong Allowance Race in California and beat I RUN U SIWM by more than five lengths. He followed that up with similar speed and finished third at the “Gold Project Dirt Special” and last time out he blazed 106 speed and got his first Graded Stakes win when he beat SLYANDFAMILYSTONE by more than a length at the “G3 Giant’s Kash Stakes”. He comes back on four weeks rest and if he can find that speed again and can handle the distance he should be in the mix.
#3
give lucy a woot
zerokash barn
f gossett 13/1
Out of the zerokash barn is this three year old WOOTTON BASSETT colt out of the Sim Mare AMERICA LOVES LUCY. He comes in HOT on a streak of three straight gate to wire wins with the last two coming at the “Northern Slew Dirt Route” and the “Adhesive Dirt Route”. He makes his first Graded Stakes start here and the ownership group hopes that he will like the extra distance and that he will improve on his career best 104 speed.
#9
disqualify
veeman32 barn
s l ledwith 8/1
Out of the veeman32 barn is this three year old scratch bred NOT THIS TIME ( x PIONEEROF THE NILE x SEATTLE SLEW) colt. All four of his starts this year have come at Graded Stakes and resulted in a fifth place finish at the “G3 Race For naskippy”, a third at the “G2 Felipe Alou Stakes”, a seventh place finish at the “G1 California Derby”, and a 103 speed third place finish last time out at the “G3 Giant’s Kash Stakes”. He likes to go to the front early and will need career best speed and stamina if he hopes to hold off this competitive field of fourteen.
#6
storm is a comin
rubber12 barn
o a haack 14/1
Out of the rubber12 barn is this three year old NYQUIST colt out of the Sim Mare TAP THAT STORM. He has finished in the money in six of his seven career starts including two wins. He has never made a start at a Stakes Race of any kind but is one of two horses in the field that has gone twelve furlongs or greater. Two back he ran 99 speed at this distance and finished runner-up to TANIQUETIL at an Allowance Race In New Mexico. Last time out he went even further when he got the win at a fifteen furlong Allowance Race in Arkansas where he beat BIDNESS AS USUAL by five lengths. He has had a nice ten week break training and with his two results at longer distances he could surprise and find a spot on the board.
#5
eagle bolt
amir1745 barn
c capper 9/1
Out of the amir1745 barn is this three year old BOLT D’ORO colt out of the Sim Mare DRAGON EAGLE. He comes in off back to back gate to wire wins with the most recent coming when he ran 105 speed at the ten furlong “Lenos Chin Dirt Route” where he beat OUYEN LAKTYA by more than three lengths. He is making his first Graded Stakes start here but has shown great speed and stamina in his last two and if he can handle the extra distance he should find a spot on the board. He will look to go to the front early and might be hard to catch.
#13
will be there
asrcurlin0 barn
j wilson 15/1
Out of the asrcurlin0 barn is this three year old CURLIN colt out of the Sim Mare SANE AND LOGICAL. He started the year with a win at the eight furlong “Tout Ou Rien Dirt Challenge” where he ran 97 speed and beat GENTLE WORDS by a head. He followed that up with a jump to Grade 1 for the first time where he topped 101 speed at the “G1 Corkscreww Stakes” and finished fifth. He will look to run middle of the pack and will make a late charge at the top of the stretch and try to run down the early leaders.
#8
justified og
justasr2 barn
n labreche 17/1
Out of the justasr2 barn is this three year old JUSTIFY colt out of the Sim Mare OG QUALITY XMAS. He has finished in the money in four of his seven career starts including three wins. Three previous Graded Stakes starts have resulted in a seventh place finish at the “G3 Cornstalk”, an eleventh place finish at the “G1 Movieland Futurity”, and a seventh place finish last time out at the “G1 Florida Derby”. He comes in well rested and will be tested as he will go twelve furlongs for the first time here and face a very competitive field of fourteen.
#1
work on me
beerkeg20 barn
r hansen 13/1
Out of the beerkeg20 barn is this three year old scratch bred JUSTIFY ( x DANZIG x MR. PROSPECTOR) gelding. He has made three straight Stakes starts which resulted in back to back 95 speed fourth place finishes and a 104 speed win last time out at the ten furlong “Teddys Slew Dirt Route” where he beat CODY’S DRONE by a quarter length. He came from way back there and will likely use a similar strategy and if he can repeat the speed he should be in the mix as they turn for home.
#10
mystical magical
beerkeg0 barn
c mecklenburg 31/1
Out of the beerkeg0 barn is this three year old CURLIN gelding out of the Sim Mare BRAISLEE ADAMS. Last minute entry from the ownership group snuck in just in time and created editing issues for the BTB writer. He has three wins in six career starts but of greatest interest is that he grabbed a 96 speed win at an Allowance Race in Germany that ran at this same distance. The horse is still sweating and breathing heavy from that one as the race was run just eight days ago. Can he compete on such little rest and after traveling over 3800 miles? Anything is possible in the SIM I guess.
Go Chinoe!
