G1, The Saint Cloud Grand Prix

This week we are headed to Deauville, France where on the card they will be hosting this weekend the running of the G1, The Saint Cloud Grand Prix. This race will be at the distance of 12 furlongs across the firm turf and is restricted to those horses that are 4 years old and older. The race has drawn a field of nine starters that will be seeking to make it to the wire first and earn a trip over to the winner’s circle. The morning line odds and post positions have been released so let’s take a preview of the nine horses that will make the start in the G1, The Saint Cloud Grand Prix.

Headed out first we have this 4 year old Brown Colt (EQUINOX (JPN) x TAPIT x SADLER’S WELLS ) that has been running well in recent starts for the owner. His most recent trip to the track would be in Newmarket where he would travel 12 furlongs in the G2, The Clubhouse Stakes. He put up a good fight as they hit the top of the stretch where he would be seen leading by a half stride. But he would lose ground and hit the wire in second with a 108 speed rating. He will have another challenging race this weekend when he heads over to the turf representing the Latinos Del Mundo residency.

This is a 4 year old Bay Gelding (VADENI x DEEP IMPACT x DANEHILL ) that is no stranger to making graded starts and last season would pick up a couple of G1 wins. In his most recent start, we would see him on the track in Belgium traveling 12 furlongs in the G3, Ursula von der Leyen Classic. He was way back some 11 lengths off the lead in fourth. He would manage to get clear and weave into second at the wire still over five lengths back with a 111 speed rating. He will need to bring his “A” game this weekend when he heads over to his gate representing the Down Under Racing residency.

Next, we have this 5 year old Bay Horse (INVINCIBLE SPIRIT (IRE) x DEEP IMPACT x SADLER’S WELLS ) that has made only one start this season and that would be in Paris going 16 furlongs in the G3, The Barberville. He would have difficulties finding the leader down the final stretch but would come in second over 8 lengths back with a 102 speed rating. He will drop down in distance this weekend but still at a spot he is comfortable when he heads out of the paddock representing the Empire State Racing residency.

Coming out next, we have this 6 year old Chestnut Gelding (NEW APPROACH (IRE) x MONSUN x DANEHILL ) that appears to have been picked up at auction and has made all three of his starts this season under new ownership. He would be in Belgium for his most recent start going 12 furlongs in the Ursula von der Leyen Classic. He would run well back throughout this race and never be a factor crossing the wire in fifth with a 106 speed rating. He had a nice race two starts back of which we saw a better speed rating, and he needs to find that again when he heads over to the turf representing the Universal Racing Club residency.

5LOUISVILLE SAFESAF4GjagerbombR Engel18467%$2,926,91096.009/1

Here we will see this 4 year old Bay Gelding (CHIMICHURI RUN (SAF) x SAVABEEL (AUS) x SEA THE STARS ) that’s been running exclusively in G1 races in his most recent starts. He would again make a G1 attempt in his most recent start in Victoria going 12 furlongs in the G1, The 5-Series. This race would come with a lot of disappointments as he was never a factor and crossed the wire in eleventh with a 107 speed rating. He is looking to rebound this weekend and will need to bring a good effort when he makes the start representing the Midas residency.

Next, we have this 4 year old Chestnut Gelding (DAWN APPROACH (IRE) x RAINBOW QUEST x OASIS DREAM (GB) ) that would show some good effort in his most recent start in China. He would travel 10.5 furlongs in a Listed Stakes, Can Bud Turf Special. From back in sixth he would grind his way forward into third by the third call of the race. He would move into second down the stretch and get across the wire with a 105 speed rating. It appears that this horse could go 12 furlongs this weekend, but this is going to be a big test for him when he heads over to his gate representing the Down Under Racing residency.

7CURRACLOE BEACHIRE5Mtemp3E Bernstein201070%$840,141116.004/1

This is a 5 year old Bay Horse (SEA THE STARS x SADLER’S WELLS x ROBERTO ) that after winning the G2, Carton Fisk Handicap would go off the boards in his next three graded starts. He then took a drop in class for his most recent start in Ireland going 12 furlongs in a $53600 NW1s Local Allowance race. He was on his game that day and would take control of the lead by the third call. In his stretch run for home, he would explode on this field and stretch out his lead to nine and a quarter when he crossed the wire with a 116 speed rating. He needs to bring that speed with him this weekend as he moves back up in class to make this graded start representing the Midas residency.

8FRUGAL BARBARAIRE6GabbybarnH Harzheim27670%$842,475144.003/1

Next, we have this 6 year old Bay Gelding (CAMELOT (GB) x NUREYEV x DIESIS ) that looks like he is hunting for his first G1 win after winning the G2, Flying Carpet Handicap three starts back. He would make his most recent attempt in Victoria going 12 furlongs in the G1, The 5-Series. He was closing fast down the final stretch, but it was not good enough when he hit the wire in fifth with a 113 speed rating. He is going to need to bring that speed and a little better effort this weekend to find a spot on the boards representing the Only Stayers residency.

9FRANJINSKYGB4MtexasaceE C Doyle13592%$3,227,430289.007/1

Breaking from the outside gate we have this 4 year old Bay Colt (FRANKEL (GB) x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY x NIJINSKY 2ND ) that has been running well for the owner. He has thirteen career starts and has only missed hitting the boards once. He would be last seen on the track in Dubai going 12 furlongs in the G1, Sand Castle Golden Turf Classic. He showed up with a nice effort that got him on the boards in third at the wire with a 114 speed rating. He needs another good performance this weekend here in Deauville when he makes the start representing the DelPenn National residency.

Good luck to all owners and horses!

Skippy’s Watch List

2-Willy Workel: Second last time at G3. Looks like he might challenge?

8-Frugal Barbara: He look like he is in the hunt for a G1. Does he find it this weekend?

9-Franjinsky: In thirteen starts has only missed the boards one time. Can he hit again in Deauville?
