Now fourteen years young, A. P. Jello enjoyed a solid racing career.  A winner of eight races and $366K we honour him today in “The Treasure” State.  A. P. Jello Day in Montana, will take on a festival air and promises to have something for everyone. Various vendors will offer gastronomic delights from Jello pudding pops to Jello Cheesecake while the youngsters enjoy Kiddie rides and Clowns.  Even the “big kids” in the trackside lounge will be getting into the act where scantily clad gals will be offering Jello shooters and Jello jigglers … hmmm … really???  Count me in, however let’s focus on the big race until tomorrow …

Race Analysis by Hladun

PP 1:     94556   G RULES CH(KY)     chevry     (17/1)

This four year old son of Grand Slam comes in off of a win in the resrticted Minnesota Derby running a 110 at a juicy 18-1.  A repeat of that effort puts him in the mix in this spot. A chance.

PP 2:   154551   SOUTH DAKOTA KID(KY)     deadwood6     (8/1)

Boasting a record of seven wins in seventeen career starts, this five year old son of Giant’s Causeway(IRE) has been in a funk of late but the turnback in distance could rejuvinate him here.  He must stay in contact with the first tier if he hopes to pounce for the score.  Watch.

PP 3:   122438   LEMON(KY)     francy2     (6/1)

He’ll be a popular pick with the $2 crowd as the sentimental favourite in the aptly named A. P. Jello.  This five year old son of Lemon Drop Kid will be knockin as he attempts to bounce back from a dull effort in his last.  Normally a consistent sort he has some back class to draw from.

PP 4:    43124   IRON BERO(KY)     sharpe     (16/1)

This five year old son of Fusaichi Pegasus, an “off track” monster with three wins in six career starts, gets a “good” track here and knows how to handle it.  Although he prefers longer than he’s afforded here, he’s worth a shot at a big price.

PP 5:     97197   KAYFEINE(GB)     5ringfarms     (9/1)

A seasoned veteran, this six year old has ten wins in thirty-five career starts with $230K in the bank.  Coming into the race off a freshening, his last was a winning effort at today’s distance in a smart 109.  If firing on all cylinders today he’ll be a factor in the stretch.  A contender.

PP 6:    75322   PRIVATE DISCO(KY)     murray2     (11/1)

This five year old son of Kingmambo comes into the event off of an extended layoff.  An inconsistent sort, he’s looking to re-establish himself here and move in a positive direction.

PP 7:     32833   PARDILLO(IRE)     mindiarte     (9/1)

This gorgeous roan son of Holy Roman Emperor, recently turned four, has been on the improve of late and comes out of two graded races with mixed results.  Two starts back in the Grade III Gracestone Cap Stakes he charged from mid-pack through the stretch to finish second missing by less than two lengths at 13-1. He came out flat in his latest race, a Grade II event, where he finished a well beaten tenth.  Let’s see which version shows up today … I see a rebound here.

PP 8:     80390   ELECTRICAL CHARGE(KY)     fabfarms     (9/2)

This five year old son of Posse is two for two on a “good” track which explains why trainer  fabfarms is smiling this week.  A consistent sort, he’s posted fourteen consecutive triple digit speed figures though they haven’t always resulted in winning performances.  Looking to rebound here in this spot off a disappointing sixth in his latest, the Grade II San Valenzuala BB.

PP 9:     18158   SURF AND TURF(KY)     starman     (9/1)

This recently turned four year old son of Aldebaran has six wins in seventeen career starts.  A speedy sort he has a win and a narrow loss on his record on “off” tracks making him dangerous today with a lack of speed in here.  A “catch me if you can “ approach may well be the ticket to the winners circle here.  At a square price he gets my juice.

PP 10: 123190   KEYED UP(KY)     tgerk3     (16/1)

This five year old son of Buddha comes into this race with a two race win streak and a pair of nice speed figures to go along.  Trainer tgerk3 has elected to give him the acid test here.  He’s enjoyed success on “off” tracks in the past but I’m from Missouri … so show me!.

PP 11: 154812   BLACK SKUNK ROLFE(WV)     skunkbarn3     (11/1)

This four year old colt by Black Tie Affair(IRE) has five wins in thriteen career starts and is looking to take the next logical step here and prove himself capable in non-graded Stakes company.  This will be his fourth attempt at doing so.  We’ll watch until proves up.

PP 12: 131010   SECOND SIGHT(JPN)     vanilla2     (11/1)

Similar to others in here, he’s looking to have success at the next level.  This five year old son T. M. Opera O comes out of the Houston Mount Special Stakes here in Montana last month where he held onto second after having the lead to the top of the lane.  Another getting the test.

PP 13: 120598   SPECIAL WAY(JPN)   whirlaway     (8/1)

This son of Forty Niner is making his five year old debut here returning after a two month absence.  Having competed in the Grade I Breeder’s Bowl Dirt Mile, he looks to get untracked here and back to his winning ways.  Perhaps the farm fresh air will have re-energized him.
