Broadway a Success in Colorado
The Colorado Sophomore Classic field was loaded with speedsters, but the front runners burnt themselves out as late running Broadway Dancer did a Cha-Cha move coming off the final turn and rallied to a near 2 length victory.
As the field left the gate, four horses bolted out to battle for the lead. Indy’s Fleet, UCantbreakmyspirit, Hollow Tale and Teribithia all locked up in an intense duel, which was expected in this 9f race. Ucantbreakmyspirit and Teribithia locked up in a head-to-head dual as the field moved off the first turn and down the back stretch. On their heels was Indy’s Fleet with Hollow Tale relaxing back into the forth spot.
Ucantbreakmyspirit and Teribithia continued to battle, neither giving up the lead as Indy’s Fleet and Hollow Tale started to drop back as the field past the midway point, approaching the final turn.
Moving around the turn Crane Mountain and Broadway Dancer started their move and easily passed Indy’s Fleet and Hollow Tale, setting their marks on the two leaders. Going through the stretch, Crane Mountain and Broadway Dancer easily reeled in the pace setters and blew by, with Broadway Dancer showing the stronger kick.
Broadway Dancer took the win, upping his career speed mark to 110. Crane Mountain took second in a good effort, despite his poor draw of jockeys.
Taking third was Shoot for the Gold (my second choice) who closed a good 4 lengths through the stretch, but making his move way too late.
Ucantbreakmyspirit staggered across the line in the forth spot, beating out his foe, Teribithia (my top selection), who finished 5th.
Royantrix, the 21-1 longshot, was never a factor in the race, running last most of the way before passing two tiring front runners.
Taking the last two spots were Hollow Tale and Indy’s Fleet (my third choice) who just didn’t have anything left in their tanks heading around the final turn.
