It’s My Birthday And I’ll Cry If I Want To Stakes G-1
Well Rounded field looks to run for bragging rights Saturday.
PP # 1 Silver Star Road @ 5-1 Trainer: Onyourmark
Silver Star Road is a scratch bred Grade 1 winning son of Silver Train out of an Alydar mare. After a single dirt debut at 2, Silver Train was put on a turf campaign for the remainder of his 2 year old season and ran in two turf races as a 3 year old. He then made a switch to dirt that he relished. The next start was a dirt route try that seemed to be even a further improvement. In his last race at 9 furlongs he ran a speed figure of 104. In his last outing he won a Grade 1 race @ 10 furlongs with an amazing speed of 107. Jockey Cadigan who is a 14% winner on the year will track this honest pace try to make a run down the stretch. He seems to want more distance but has a great chance to be in the mix.
PP # 2 Paradise Cove @ 3-1 Trainer: Lawyerron
Paradise Cove is a scratch bred Stakes Winning colt by A.P. Indy out of a Seeking the Gold mare. Paradise Cove only raced three times as a 2 year old, but came away with a win, place, and show. He has been good at sprinting distances with a stakes win at 6 furlongs with a 106 speed figure. He ran a 102 speed figure at 8 furlongs which makes me think he can get this distance. His only try at 9 furlongs resulted in a 96 figure over a track labeled as Good. Paradise Cove looks to be to only speed horse in the race. If jockey Coleman can set a good pace he may have something left for the stretch run.
PP #3 Sports Jersey @ 5-1 Trainer: Super5
Sports Jersey is a scratch bred Stakes Placed son of Empire Maker out of a Theatrical mare. Sports Jersey has been improving as a 3 year old and seems to like the classic distances. Out of six route races at 3 he’s piled a record of 2-1-2 with the only race out of the money at 10 furlongs. His last race was a convincing allowance win at 9 furlongs with a speed figure of 105. Jockey Kelton has having a break out year winning 14.4% of his races. Kelton should have Sports Jersey pressing the pace to keep the pace honest and will try to overtake the front runner coming around the bend for home.
PP #4 Salvation GB @ 22-1 Trainer: Briel
Salvation is a son of Maria’s Mon out of the mare Homespunquest by Raconteur. This will be his first start for trainer briel. He comes off of a career best 25K claiming race win at 8 furlongs in which he ran a 93 speed figure. He seems to like the switch to longer distances with a 10 point figure increase. He seems to want more distance than the 8 furlongs so this 9 furlong distance could be right up his alley. With the way some horses vastly improve with a barn change he is a valid threat at these longer odds. Jockey Sherman will be looking to sit back down the backside and close down the stretch.
PP #5 Sunset Mesa @ 9/5 Trainer: Twoofus2
Sunset Mesa is a multiple Graded Winning son of Sky Mesa out of the mare Bayou Cajun by Fusaichi Pegasus. Bayou Cajun also has a 2 year old graded winner. Sunset Mesa is no stranger in the sim to anyone who has been following the top 3 year olds this year. After winning the 9 furlong Florida Derby win a speed figure of 105, Sky Mesa ran a brilliant 2nd in the Bluegrass this year. After the Middle Jewel he skipped the New Yorker to be ready for his summer campaign in The 8F Smackdown. He was closing fast in the 8 furlong Smackdown to finish 2nd, and ran out of track three weeks ago. Kentucky’s top jock Givens will be stalking the pace and will be ready to pounce with Sunset’s blazing turn of foot.
PP # 6 In House Slew @ 5-1 Trainer: Graywolf9
In House Slew is a Stakes Placed son of Include our of House of Slew by Chester House. In House slew has two stakes winning half sisters. His better distance seems to be going longer than classic distance. Back in March he ran a hard charging 2nd in a 9 furlong Stakes. However his best has been a 101 at 12 furlongs. His jockey Alexander is having a down year, and hopes to pick up his first win of the season. In House Slew should be toward the back of the field until a late charge at the end to get into the action.
PP # 7 Adrammelech @ 5-1 Trainer: Hibachi
Adrammelech was sired by Anabaa out of Phoenix Kingdom by Kingmambo. He started his career with a 2 year old grass campaign, and first race of 3 year old year was also on grass. Since making the change to dirt he has never looked back. Has been on steady improvement barring a 10 furlong race where he didn’t like the distance that day. His last race was a 9 furlong stakes in which he ran a career best speed figure of 102. His jockey Sikes is hoping to turn around a bad year with this race and looks to be in the middle to end of the pack until turning for home.
