Great Value Sires!

This week I have three different good value sires. They can all be great value sires that I think have nice potential in the sim. The first one is a sire that has done fairly well in real life, and shows some potential for positive results in the sim. The second sire has had some recent success and also shows good potential, and the third has been respectable in his own right. All three can usually be used very cheaply, and the first two may be on their way up, with the ladder being in his declining years. All three make up my bargain choices of the week! Good luck with your entire bargain bred horses, and enjoy!

Concern (Broad Brush x Turner Up x Ack Ack)

Bio: Conern stands at 15.2 ½ hands and was born in 1991.  Concern made 30 career starts with seven wins, seven places, and eleven shows. He earned an impressive $3,079,350 in earnings with an impressive 28 stakes appearance. Concern notched three stakes wins in all including the 1994 Breeders Cup Classic. He finished third earlier that year in the 1994 Preakness Stakes. Concern clearly shined on the track.

At stud Concern has been very solid in real life. It really isn’t surprising that Concern sired Good Night Shirt in 2001 who earned over 600k on the track or Nice Tokyo who earned over 400k on the track. In all Concern has had a lot of runners earn on the track. Many have earned over 100k. His results have been very solid for a horse that stands for a measly a 2.5k at stud. The Broad Brush influence from his sire clearly makes Concern worth a look in real life, and in the sim.

SIM: In the sim Concern has shown glimmers of hope. Concern has his moments. Last year he sired a nice runner named Golden Concern that has earned 98k in just 13 starts. The horse has already topped 100 speed figures twice now. Connessy also was a very solid horse from last year’s crop with 97k earnings in 18 starts. This year Concern shows promise once again with a very strong runner out of Tiznow, and another solid performer out of Vettori. One thing of note is Concern seems to be a classic mudder. Just last week I bred a Concern with hopes of breeding a real bargain mudder. You can give Concern a cheap try as his cost dips below 50 points each week. Great potential here for this relatively obscure sire. Concern should enjoy being paired with Raise A Native lines, Cox’s Ridge. Forty Niner was extremely successful with Concern’s sire Broad Brush, so a big spender may get a real nice runner with that play. Private Account also has worked well with his sire.

Nayef (Gulch x Bustino x Mr. Prospector)

Bio: Nayef had seven career stakes win’s with four of them coming in G1’s. Nayef finished 2nd in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes just like his Broodmare sire Bustino who lost in a grueling battle to Grundy in 1975. Nayef made 20 career starts with 9 wins, 2 places, and 4 shows. Nayef won a very respectable $3,594,157 in career earnings. No surprise that Nayef had lots of stamina with Bustino being his broodmare sire.

At stud I have little information on Nayef. His stud fee is 10,000 pounds which is not cheap at all. Check out www.shadwellstud.com to see a list of Nayef progeny achievements as well as some nice pictures of Nayef. His babies have sold for some nice coin in recent years which is not surprising since Nayef is a very sound and good looking horse.

SIM: As mentioned his real life stud fee is not too shabby. This may be a good indicator of why his sim stats show such nice promise. I think you can’t go wrong with the Northern Dancer line here, and I also think Storm Cat line could be a real nice play. Nayef has been bred four times this year and two show good promise. One looks to be a dud, and it is too early to tell with the last one. His two showing promise are Nay Varlet and Nyarana. Both of those horses have 16k plus in earnings with only four start’s each. Both have shown some inconsistency which we often see with bargain breds, but nonetheless I think Nayef shows good promise. Nayef may be a sire to remember in the near future.

Avenue of Flags (Seattle Slew x Pass the Glass x Bold Reasoning)

Bio: Avenue of Flags made just three starts in his racing career, and he made them count with two wins, and one show. His pedigree is obviously outstanding with Seattle Slew as sire and Pass the Glass as broodmare sire.

Avenue of Flags stands at Hourigan Horse Farm in New Mexico for a private stud fee. He has 435 foals for 14 racing age crops. He has sired 191 winners, 23 stakes winners. 271 starters of Avenue of Flags have earned more than $14 million in earnings.

SIM: In the sim Avenue of Flags has been known to kick out a stakes runner now and then with three stakes winners in all, and one grade one winner. Three year old Camberville has 15 starts with nine wins, 1 place, and 4 shows with earnings of more than $220k. Make A Move looks really solid and has a win and a place in four starts. Make A Move is from this years crop, and already has two nice speed figures of 70+. Avenue of Flags also has had some nice results as DDS for dirt running horses. Most of those runners liked classic or less distance best. Overall Avenue of Flags numbers look down a bit, but you may still be able to get a nice horse with some sharp breeding wit, and a little luck. Anything that works with Slew should work here. Mr. Prospector lines are always a great choice.
