Vogue Handicap Grade III

We are here in California for the big race for 3 year old fillies and mares. It’s a hot day here in California with temperatures over 100 degrees. I just hope this won’t stop the horses from excelling well. Let’s talk about the featured race we have here. We have the Vogue Handicap Grade III   Fillies and mares, 3 years old and up, a mile and one eighth on the Fast Dirt Course, Purse: $150,000

Post Position                         Horse                          Owner                         jockey             Odds

1                      Unbridled Rock                       jimmyv24                    GV. Vincent    6/1

A nice 4 year old Filly out of the California racing legend Rock Hard Ten who has being doing quite well in her races. She won 4 straight races with a total of 11 lengths. She first attempted her first stakes race and romped the field easily with 3 ¾ lengths. She also had a huge Speed Figure with 113.  The horse can sure relax in the lead; with GV. Vincent aboard who here has an 11% winning percentage can probably control her.

2                      Graupoint                                xanderman                  L. Snyder        13/1

This 3 year old filly is the youngest in this race. This is the second time she’s facing older mares. The last time she faced older mares was in the Bringing up the Rear Classic Grade III where she didn’t do half bad. She ran 5th in the race out of 14 horses which to me seems decent. At least she has experienced in graded races making her have a shot in this race. But bad thing is she’s facing older horses making it difficult. Tough call.

3                      Blew Bayou G                         jgjg                               M. Staples       6/1

Hmm… looking at the past performances it seems like the horse decides the call when she wants to race. The race before her last start in the Mars Stallion Special Stakes she ran second and was only behind the leader by 1 ½ lengths. The horse will decide what she will do in this race so it’s her call. At least she has a high percentage jockey who has 17% in the meet.

4                      Aussie Dynomite                     Idstables                      N. Bonus         3/1

A nice 5 year old mare out of Dynaformer who has banked over $290,000 in earnings which is not bad for a stakes horse. The horse has been doing excellent in the past 8 starts where she’s only had 1 bad start. But the bad thing I don’t she likes it here in California. She raced here 2 starts back where she ran second to last. Maybe she didn’t feel like running that day or it could have been some other reason.  Let’s see how she does in this race.

            5                      Holly Moly                               andysakmar                T. Bates           15/1

The biggest long shot in this $250,000 race. If you excuse her last race she hasn’t done badly. But they were allowance races and her Speed Figures are horrible which are in the 80’s. That is really bad which makes it difficult for her in this race. That answers your question on why she is 15/1.

6                      Small but Cute                        riderup                         R. Simcox       11/1

A 5 year old mare that is doing ok in her 5th year in racing. She ran a hard race last start going a mile and was only 2 ¼ lengths from the leader. The race was a slow pace in that race she might have had enough in the rank to gun down the other horses. R. Simcox is switching to this and he last rode Holly Moly. If the pace in here is fast she has a shot.

            7                      Give Us a Break                     fleet1                           F. Griffen        11/1

This horse hasn’t won many races so bringing her up in this kind of class is too much. The horse won allowance non-winners of 2 races in a year by 2 lengths. She’s had thirditis for a while but it looks like she’s improving now. She’s 4 years old now hopefully see improvement in the future. Too big of a class.

            8                      K’s Eskape                              pompeya                     F. Gossett       9/5

The favorite in this race who’s at 9/5. What an amazing horse this is. She is 6 years old out of Mineshaft that is still running huge. She already has earned over a $1,000,000 dollars already. The last 8 starts are just simply exceptional. She’s won every start except for two races. The last time she won a graded grade was in DB in the Original Margarita Invitational Grade II. She won that race by ¼ lengths. The horse has two running styles she can run either in the pack or she can run up front. The call is up to F. Gossett who here has a 24% winning percentage. I’ll probably see her in the winner circle.

          9                        Pro’s Song                              mardigras                    S. Ball              12/1

A 4 year old filly who has a shot in her first attempt in a stakes/graded race.  She has shown she can run in these type of races but the thing is can she handle the speed and quality horses in this race? I reckon she will run either 5th or 6th. We may see her in the future if she stays sound and great.
