PAWN OF PROPHECY(JPN) (RULE OF LAW x STORM CAT x GONE WEST) Another who won last time out, this time in a stakes over 9.5f. By a son of Kingmambo he has Storm Cat and Mr Prospector on his dam side and that screams out 10f AT MOST for a trip. Todays 12f looks a bit too far and although he likes to sit up near the front I think he may take the lead at the three quarter pole but he might only hold it for a furlong at most before the true stayers take over.
THORNS OF A CROWN(SAF) (KING OF KINGS (IRE) x DANZIG x BLUSHING GROOM(FR)) Interesting one this- on sp’s alone he won’t get close as his best is only a 97, but he won his latest over 12f going away (and won by almost 6 lengths) but was that due to the trip or the yielding going? Or a combination of both? Should certainly get the trip on pedigree but his previous two runs were over11f with no sign of that form and that suggests to me that the yielding going was a big part in that win. With firm going today he might struggle again.
TROPICAL PRINCE(IRE) (HURRICANE RUN (IRE) x KRIS S. x HALO) By an Arc De Triomphe winner he’ll want at least this far with plenty of 10f type stamina on his Dam side but although this will be his trip he simply hasn’t looked good enough. A best sp of 96 some five runs back over 9f, he struggled recently in the Grade I Adelaide derby and he must surely struggle again today, even in this slightly weaker field.
DAWG GONE FAST(AUS) (FASTNET ROCK (AUS) x MIESQUE’S SON x CHIEF’S CROWN) Another intersting runner here, not really bred for this trip but won by almost 6 lengths last time out at the distance in a Grade III to record a 101 sp. He was leading by 10 lenghts at the three quarter pole though and the question you have to ask is did he really stay? Or did he pinch it from the front, catching the rest of the field by surpirise? Unfortunately, there is no real clue and I honestly can’t decide. He’ll try and lead but he’ll then either hold on for the win or die out in front and get swallowed up. Toss a coin.
WONDERMENT(KY) (DEVIL HIS DUE x EL GRAN SENOR x DAMASCUS) Not bred to get this far, being by Devil His Duwe and confirmed that last time out by running better over 9f (which should be his trip) than he did the time before over 10f. He’s never run in a stakes and his best sp is only 94. In short I can see him finishing in only one place and thats deadlast. He could turn into a stakes runner over 9f but he’s not a graded runner over any trip.
ZABEEL WARRIOR(AUS) (UKOK WARRIOR (AUS) x RANSOM CALLING x ZABEEL(NZ)) Almost exactly the same comments with regards to the trip as the previous runner. He ran mutch better in an allowance over 9f latest than he did over 9.5f or 10f previously (although they were on dirt). The truf looks a better surface for him but again he looks to be going too far in too strong a race. He won’t finish last but midfield at best.
