Graded Racing in New Mexico
We are in New Mexico for The Bringing Up The Rear Classic – Grade 3 for 3y.o+ F&M over 9.5F with a prize pool of $125,000.
With so much anticipation building, Lets have a look at the field:
Distant Shade – 42 – 13–10–6
Nice and strong 31% winning strike rate for this daughter of Ecton Park. Has had 4 starts this year for 1 win. Last start in the G3 Can’t Find Anything Else ran a 104SP whilst fading over 10F to run 7/12. The start before was a carrer best equalling run of a 108SP going wire to wire and incresing her winning margin at every call and winning like a $1.50 fav should. Will be up the front for a long way and give her backers a good sight @ 6/1.
Battle Cruiser – 15 – 4–2–2
Has her second 4 year old start here, Comes off a nice allowance victory last start posting a 101SP and racing away by 3.5 Lenghts. Her SP’s are down on the rest of the field and @ 22/1 she won’t be carrying my cash this week.
Iron Beauty – 15 – 7–3–1
Comes out of the same race as Distant Shade last start running 6th and posting a 105SP on the way. Will be up on the speed and if she gets away she might just reproduce her 107SP the start before and go wire to wire. 7/1 is about the right odds and if you like the top one, remember she beat her home last start.
Graupoint – 11 – 4–1–2
Has not started since April last year which is a major concern coming in to this race. Had good form in 3 year old fillies races but I can’t see enough for her to compete here. Is 44/1 and I wish the connections well.
Kawanishi – 25 – 2–5–2
Coming off a restricted allowance 2nd placing but hasn’t posted above 89SP in her last 8 starts. 99/1 and to me is looking for something eaiser in my opinion. To her owners enjoy the members tickets.
Errtu – 31 – 7–5–5
Another who ran last start in the G3 Can’t Find Anything Else running a 106SP and unlike Distant Shade and Iron Beauty was finishing off well over 10F to run 4/12. The start before was very disapointing only posting a 92SP finishing down the track. 7/1 and may be able to sit behind the speed and finish over the top.
War In Heaven – 25 – 7–4–7
Hard to read this laides chances. Has the ability to win a race like this posting some big numbers consistanly however hasn’t switched on in her last 2 starts like she can. Might not be far off them and if this is run at break neck speed she will have the stamina advantage to run home over the top. 9/1 is nice and juicy odds and I wouldn’t leave her out.
Frustrated – 19 – 5–3–3
Is in carrer best form for this with her last two starts the best SP’s of her carrer. Last start ran a monster 110SP over 9F in a Stakes race. Is at 10/1 but I would wait until she wins a graded race before I back her against some of these mares.
All The Riches – 21 – 6–4–2
Rarely does this girl run a poor speed with 100+SP’s in her last 8 starts. Has been finishing it of nice and one that will apreciate the likley strong pace up front. 6/1 equal 2nd pick and if she got up I would not be surprised.
Audacity – 37 – 12–7–6
If we had an off track judging by her MONSTER win in the G3 – Girls Cap (112SP) she would be a lot shorter than the 12/1 being offered around at the moment. Her last 4 starts have not been as impressive, however 2 starts back she did finish it off nicley in the Sand Castle Distaff. A good choice for trifecta players.
Meadowbank Galileo – 14 – 4–3–4
Has been running well in allowance races but this is a big step up in class here. Won a 5 horse allowance last start over 8F posting a 96SP. Is 17/1 and I hope she runs well for her owner.
Strong Achiever – 30 – 9–4–5
Has run her last 4 starts in allowance races for some nice results. Ran a strong 108SP over 9F paying $1.20 and if she can run up to that speed again a place would not suprise. 9/1 will add value to trifecta’s.
Dance of Death – 18 -7–3–3
Another who ran last start in the G3 Can’t Find Anything Else running a 101SP finishing 10/12 6.75 lenghts from the winner. Hard to have considering she was 5.75 lengths behind Errtu. Perhaps we judge her on The Rocco’s Reef Handicap at this track over 9F where she ran 107SP and finished hard to win. 10/1 is a bit shot for me on her last run but I wouldn’t be surprised if she ran ITM.
For The Love Of God Ben – 22 –10–5–1
Is the race favorite at 5/1 and you only have to look at her last couple of starts to see why. A powerful front running display lead her to a 113SP wire to wire win over 9F in The Gold Hero Stakes. Before that she sat just off the pace over 9F and exploded away posting a 109SP and winning by 4 lengths. If she runs up to those last 2 starts she wins.
I hope I have summed up the race for everyone and wish all horses and the connections the best of luck. Although only 1 will go home winner everyone should be proud of their hose for just making the field and I look forward to seeing your horses in many more stake races.
