Yasutora Captures 2000 Guineas

Yasutora(CO) captured the 2000 Guineas on the wings of a prolonged rally that carried him from thirteenth place to first in the final half mile.  Alicyn’s Colorado bred deep closer dawdled in the back of the pack for the first five furlongs.  Entering the far turn, the handsome son of Eckelson and The Seventh One (Septieme Ciel) began to pick off rivals one by one.

By head stretch, only two foes remained, Buck’s Party and Largent.  The latter was well done at that point, a result of his fruitless pursuit of the former, and offered no resistance when confronted.  Buck’s Party was another matter.  Despite going full-bore from flag fall to finish, Deyoto’s colt dug in with the tenacity of a bulldog when Yasutora came calling.

The Breeders Bowl champion gave it his best.  But on this particular day, his best wouldn’t be good enough.  Ace’s flashy chestnut edged by Buck’s Party in deep stretch and drew off to a length and a half score in a quick 1:34.2 (SP 109).  Boom Gate closed willingly for the show while no threat to the top pair.  Favored Credit Castle was never in contention.
