The DR.’S EAGLES(IRE) Special Stakes
Welcome to Kentucky. This week we have The DR.’S EAGLES(IRE) Special Stakes, an $80,000 race to be run on the dirt for a mile and five sixteenths. It will be the ladies who run, 4 years old and up, to grab their share of the purse and we have a very evenly matched field. Let’s meet the horses. In post position 1 Rainbow Creek will be awaiting the start. This 4yo mare was sired by Sadler’s Wells and out of the dam Cozzwaki. Trainer 5moonfarms brings her to Kentucky this week. She was brought into the race world as a 2yo back in April 2006. Her first race was on the dirt for 6 furlongs but only brought on a speed of 44 so her trainer decided to switch her over to the turf. She perked up some in her second race and then broke her maiden her third time out at 9 furlongs. She was then put into three 8 furlong stakes races but her best finish out of the three was a second by half a length. After a 6 month break, she was then put into allowance races. She continued to improve and by her third time out in July 2007 after the break she brought home another win, this time at 9.5 furlongs with a speed of 93. She continued to improve at distances between 8 and 9.5 furlongs and in December 2007 she brought home her next allowance win. Her next race was in February 2008 where she won again with a high speed of 105. Her last race out was a stakes race where she came if fourth by 4 3/4 lengths with a speed of 100. 5moonfarms is putting her on the dirt for only her second time this race. The handicappers feel that she should do well with the switch giving her odds of 7/2. Red Sorceress will be in post position 2, a 4yo mare sired by Distorted Humor and trained by lopickles. As a 2yo she first stepped foot onto the track back in February 2006 for a quick sprint on the dirt. She finished sixth. Then after another loss on the dirt she was tried on the turf which she obviously didn’t like. She was put back on the dirt for a mile which she seemed to prefer. She would bring home 2 seconds and a third before finally breaking her maiden 1 year after she began racing. After immediately bringing home another win in an allowance race she was tried in two 9 furlong stakes races. She got a second and a fifth for her efforts and her trainer decided to switch her back to allowance, this time for 10 furlongs and she brought home another win. After two more 10 furlong allowance races she was then tried at 12 furlongs where she won again with an impressive 5 length lead. One more 12 furlong then she was tried at 11 where she captured the win again. lopickles decided to try her once again in stakes races and she finally brought home her first stakes win with a high speed of 105 and a distance of 13 furlongs. Her last two races were stakes races as well, one at 12 furlongs and one at 13. She managed to get a second but her last time out she just couldn’t quite get it together and finished 8th, 18 1/2 lengths off the lead. If she can pull it together and get the win this week it will be her first stakes win. The handicappers give her odds of 4/1 for this race. Post position 3 will hold Queen of the Ryche. sdmf5 is the trainer of this 5yo mare by Seeking the Gold. She began her racing career as a 3yo back in July 2006 with an impressive first time start speed of 80 in a 6 furlong allowance sprint where she got second. It was her second race after that where she broke her maiden. Her next seven races were allowance races at distances from 8 to 9 furlongs. She got a fourth, two seconds and four firsts. In May 2007 she was entered in her first stakes race and although she came in third, she was 10 1/2 lengths off the lead. One more allowance race and she finished second. She was then tried in a 12 furlong Grade 3 and couldn’t keep up, finishing seventh 18 1/4 lengths back. sdmf5 would then try her in 2 more stakes and another grade 3 to no avail. She would then be sent back to allowance races, including one try on the turf, but still seemed to be struggling. It wasn’t until the beginning of March of this year that she would win once again and this time with a high speed of 101. She raced once more at the end of March and maintained her speed of 101 but this time placed fourth. She’s capable of good speeds and if she can bring the speed to this race she has a good shot at a win here in Kentucky. The handicappers send her into this race with odds of 4/1. Awaiting the start in post position 4 will be Angels in Heaven, a 4yo mare sired by Saint Liam and trained by thanksrev. In December 2006, she was 2 years old when she began her racing career. She ran a very nice 76 and placed second. Her second time out, though, she would break her maiden at a distance of 9 furlongs on the dirt. She was then put into an allowance sprint but placed 5th out of 6 horses. Her trainer decided to try her in a stakes race where her performance wasn’t quite up to par. Having confidence in the filly, her trainer then tried her in a 12 furlong stakes race. The longer distance seemed much more to her liking as she was first under the wire three lengths ahead of the rest of the pack. She would then start in another allowance race and brought home her second win in a row at the same distance of 12 furlongs. She was then put back into another stakes race but failed to get the win placing fourth. Two more allowance races and 2 more wins. She seemed to improve with every race. After those two wins came a 13 furlong stakes win. She would reach a high speed of 106 in her next stakes start but fell short of a win coming in second. Then, one more stakes race – one more win. Her last time out, though, in March of this year she really seemed to be struggling. She finished sixth, a good 14 1/2 furlongs back. If she can shake that loss and perform her best today she has a good chance of bringing home the win. The handicappers seem to agree as they put her at 3/1 odds, just a hair behind the favorite. Cement Mixer will be starting in post position 5. Eurosilver sired this 4yo mare and she is out of the dam Roll ‘Em Mary Lou. She was a 2yo when she started racing in July 2006. Her first two races were short 5.5 furlong sprints. She got 3rd in both. Her trainer at the time then tried her at 7 furlongs but she once again placed 3rd. Her next two tries were at 9 furlongs, where the first of the two she placed fifth but managed to finally break her maiden in the second one. She would then be tried one time on the turf in a 10 furlong allowance but didn’t perform very well so it was back to the dirt for her. Two more allowance races and she couldn’t do any better than fifth in either one. Her speeds were slowly improving. She was then put into a $15,000 where she would finally capture her second win but it was her last race under her old trainer. Trainer magicturf acquired her and she continued to improve. Her first three races under the new trainer were 8.5 furlong allowance races. The first one she was second, the second she captured her third win and the third race she finished third. Her next race was a 9 furlong allowance where she reached her lifetime high speed of 103 and brought home the win as well. Her last time out was last month which was a 9 furlong starter. She failed to capture the win but was only 1/4 length behind in second. I feel like if it was 9.5 furlongs she probably would have added another win to her record. This will be her first try at a stakes race and probably for that reason the handicappers have named her the long shot with odds of 6/1. The favorite, Zanpakutoh, will be starting from post position 6. mrfu trains this 4yo who is sired by Kingmambo and out of the dam Decibel’s Honor. She started her career on the turf as a 3yo back in February 2007. She was obviously very unhappy on the turf finishing last 39 1/2 lengths behind the winner. Her second race would be on the dirt in a seven furlong allowance race where she brought home a third. mrfu then tried her back on the turf for two more races. Her speed improved but she brought home two fourths. Five months after she started racing she broke her maiden with an impressive speed of 101 at a distance of 10 furlongs back on the dirt. That began a five race winning streak that would include three allowance wins and a win in her very first stakes attempt. She seemed to prefer the longer distances as all of these races were between 10 and 12 furlongs. She was then tried in a 9 furlong grade 3. She came in fourth but was still gaining ground. Her next race was an ungraded stakes race at 12 furlongs and she finished second but her speed still kept improving. Her last two times out were grade 3 races, one at 11 furlongs and one at 10. She managed a high speed of 106 in the first of the two and brought home third in both. This mare has only run in 13 races and only placed out of the money 4 times. If she continues to improve she has a great shot at the win. If she doesn’t get the win, I’m sure that she’ll be right up there fighting for it. The handicappers have given her odds of 3/2. Angels in Heaven x Zanpakutoh x Red Sorceress I really like Angels in Heaven in this race and think she has an excellent shot at the win. Zanpakutoh won’t give up the win very easily and should be right there along with her in second. I don’t think that Red Sorceress will be able to keep up and will finish the race in third. So there you have it, the field and my predictions. It should be a great race this Saturday and I wish good luck to all of the runners. Good Luck and Happy Racing If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to email me at wolfmagic6@yahoo.com. I’d love to hear from you.
