Well-Matched Field of 12 Gals in Gr III Boquet o’ Daisies At Mile

12 fillies and mares gather for the feature 15th race, the $150,000 Grade II Boquet of Daisies at a mile of what should be fast dirt. The morning line handicapper sees no clear favourite, putting 3 of these mares as co-favourites at 5/1, and the field seems well matched.

Shimmer and Shine runs from the post position at 13/1 for trainer crimeboss1. The daughter of Shamardal has put up 5 non-MCOSv wins, all in allowances, with 4 occurring at today’s distance. Her first stake venture last out produced a 5th place finish and 96 speed in the Red Raise in Asia. Her lifetime best of 103 at this distance is comparable with most here. The 4-year-old has run best when taking a deep stalk style; rider Debow is winning at a 9% clip this year.

Sisson’s Forest runs from the #2 position as one of 3 co-favourites at 5/1 for the taztiger barn, which boasts a 15.6% lifetime win percentage. The daughter of Forestry is coming off a successful 6-race set of sprint efforts, which has produced a stake win twice back and a career high 110 last out. Earlier in her career the 4-year-old was a frequent performer at the longer distances, producing a stake win at this distance as a 2-year-old in Massachusetts. It’s not clear from the records whether this recent good form will hold up at a mile, although Sisson’s Forest has consistently been coming in the stretch, which bodes well for jockey Sieber, a 10% performer who has been as cold as the Juan de Fuca Strait in January, off to a 1-for-28 start.

Rose of Cairo runs from the 3-slot at 12/1 odds for trainer zipchippy. This will be the first route effort for the daughter of Noverre. The last two efforts at fast dirt have produced this one’s two best lifetime speeds, a 106 and 103, good for a place and a win in stakes overseas. The breeding is quote consistent with a successful route career for this one; she likes to take a stalk style and jockey Buzz will try to build on his very hot 17% start asking for more distance than usual from her.

Au Bling runs from the 4-position at 23/1 odds for trainer stlcards3. Standing out in the past performances is the 4-year-old’s showing 3 races back, running a 105 for a win at this distance in the Thirsty Bold in Finland in February at 20/1. Au Bling is a daughter of Seeking the Gold and game dam Scenic Giant brings Giant’s Causeway lineage and 5 lifetime dirt route stake wins to the bloodlines. This one’s second best lifetime speed has also been at this distance and rider Blalock will try to bring a repeat of that February performance here, when a closing approach was adopted.

Spooky Wildcat runs from the #5 position at 8/1 for trainer photo41st. The daughter of Ghostzapper has produced $583,044 in lifetime earnings, easily topping the field, much of which is attributable to Grade I and II wins at this very distance, most recently in the Smackdown III in California in July. This one has been rested since last August and makes her first 4-year-old start here. Spooky Wildcat runs with a stalk style and any kind of important attributable to greater maturity would make the 8/1 odds seem very generous here; however jockey Kidder may find this one not up to her best efforts quite yet after such a long break.

Az A Crystahl runs from the 6 position at 13/1 odds for the bicuspid barn from the doctahg operation. The daughter of Azamour is off to a fast start to her 4-year-old campaign, producing two allownace wins at this distance in Dubai, showing a career best 106 speed last out. Az A Crystahl has a stake win at this distance in her first race as a 3-year-old. This one runs from very close behind the leader and rider Evars would like just a little improvement over the effort last out to be in contention.

Desperado Wish runs from the #7 position as one of 3 co-favourites at 5/1 for trainer desperado4, who wins at a lifetime 23.7% clip. The daughter of Gone West has had success at this distance, most recently in earning a Grade III win in the Be Forewarned in Ontario in January. The 109 speed shown there is this one’s career best and the second best in today’s field. Desperado Wish returns to this distance affter her succeeding efforts produced a disappointing 9th place finish and then a show finish in a sprint try in the slop in Maryland last out. Top rider Rolling will steer this closer and Rolling has been even hotter than usual this year, winning at a 32.0% rate.

Magnificent Dubai runs from the 8-position at 8/1 odds for trainer kingkong. The six-year-old daughter of Point Given is the elder statesman of the field and has been a specialist at this distance, producing 4 allowance wins and a stake win at it over the years. Last out produced a 106 speed although good only for a show finish in the Incomplete Pass in Idaho in March; second last was a 105 speed and these two career tries may have prompted the jump to a graded effort here. Although this one has not hit the winner’s circle in 5 races, there are only two frontrunning types here and she is the fastest, offering interesting opportunities for jockey Bauder.

Boodha runs from the #9 position at 20/1 odds for trainer boolucas. The daughter of Buddha has mostly been a sprinter for the last year but ran her fastest in quite a while when sent out at 8.5 furlongs in an allowance in Delaware in March, producing a win and a 102 speed. An even faster effort would be needed for success here; Boodha is one of only 2 speed horses in the field and her competition to the lead is directly to her inside which rider Brewer, who is off to a good start this year, will undoubtedly be keeping in mind.

Oh So Awesome runs from the 10-slot as one of 3 co-favourites at 5/1 for trainer chilichili, who has won at a lifetime 19.6% clip. the daughter of Awesome Again is another one who has been mostly sprinting in the last year before returning to the mile distance in an allowance in Arkansas twice back. That effort produced a 114 speed which is top in the field by 5 points and a repear of that effort would produce a favourable result here. Subsequently last out produced a disappointing 9th place finish and 99 speed in the Trillium Craft in Alabama in March. Os So Awesome’s most successful efforts have come as a deep closer and rider Steele, off to an ice-cold 1-for-43 start, will seek to fire late.

Hollow Bay runs from the #11 position at 6/1 odds for trainer peep3. The daughter of Beat Hollow got off to a very quick start in 2008 producing successive speeds of 108, 108 and 105 at this distance, producing 2 allowance wins and a 5th-place finish in the aforementioned Trillium Craft in Alabama. The 4-year-old’s 3 108 speeds at this distance lifetime are the 4th best career highs in the field and the repetition of efforts at that level suggest that this one should be looked for among the leaders here. Like many others here this one runs best as a deep closer and a late charging run is expected from rider Harty.

Desecration Smile runs from the far outside at 7/1 for trainer daninja. The daughter of Unbridled’s Song picks up A. P. Indy influence from game dam Thirsty Bold, who racked up 12 lifetime dirt route stake wins. This one’s greatest successes have come at a half-furlong or furlong longer but a mile try last out in the Alyluck produced a win at 7/1 and a lifetime high speed of 109, tied for second best in this field. That 109 was part of a 4-race stretch that also produced 106 and 106 speeds, suggesting that Desecration Smile may have hap an uptick in ability late in her 3-year-old year. This one is yet another deep closer and will likely participate in the demolition derby expected late in the lane here.
