1 | TOUGH AS STEEL(KY) | 9/1 | World Cup Ladies Classic winner. GhostZapper filly has been coming up short recently with good closing efforts. She has 8 wins in only 17 starts and has been handled well. Her last out was a great prep for this as she closed well to finish 4th in a 9f listed stakes. Her SP106 in that race was a tic off of her best effort ever. Given the fact that this race will be hotly contested up front, she has a chance to do some damage. Good jock in the irons.
2 | SURGEWELL | 9/1 |
A 50% winner of her starts; this 5yo mare by the great Sadler’s Wells enters this race with a six in a row win streak going for her! She’s coming off her first stakes win in an impressive 4 length romp at today’s distance. With the exception of her last win, almost all of her victories have been at CA in top notch allowance fields. So this will be a tough nut for her to crack. However, she appears to be on the verge of stepping up in class and is hot right now. Top jock will be on her back.
3 | DISTANT SHADE | 7/1 |
Matriarch scratch bred to
4 | IRON BEAUTY(KY) | 9/1 |
Lightly raced filly by Mr. Greely that has produced a 3rd place finish in the Girl’s Cap at NY over a sloppy track. She’s coming off an all out win at a DC stakes in her last going gate to wire in SP107. Most of her victories have come in her 3yo season at a mile, but she has shown she can get a distance in the latter part of last year and into the ’08 season. She’ll be pressing the lead in this and will have to contend with late charges.
5 | REDOUTE’S JUSTICE(AUS) | 11/1 |
Honest as the day is long; this 6yo mare gives her heart to the track every time. She was picked up for $10,000 in her 3yo season and has given her present owner much to be thankful for. She has a couple of listed stakes wins and picks up regular checks in allowance company. She may find this a little much, but she will show up.
6 | GOLDMAN SACHS(KY) | 7/1 |
Scratch bred GhostZapper filly that was a steal in a $15,000 claimer. Since the claim she has gone through her conditions and two races back won her first listed stakes. She appears to be pretty deadly at this distance and likes the come from behind move. She’s still maturing which makes her even more of a threat in this. The race sets up perfect for her, so we’ll see what she’s got.
7 | DANCE OF DEATH(KY) | 11/1 |
Mineshaft filly coming off a nice win in a listed event her last out. With only 17 starts to date, she appears to be looking forward to this year. With 5 wins in her last 8 starts she is still green. Her SP’s are impressive and now she is out to prove she can run at this level. One has to think she might be better off at slightly shorter, but time will tell. Her one and only graded race was a flop because of the distance. She is a versatile runner with good showings on the pace and off. Once settled into her best distance and running style, we’ll be seeing a lot of her down the road.
8 | 11/1 |
Coming back to the States after a down under stint, this Birdstone mare will give graded another go. She’s picked up some minor checks when seeking graded status. Listed events and off tracks are her specialty. She’s coming of a win in her last, but has been erratic as of late. Trainer was hoping for an off track, but that is not the case. Hoping for consistent form in this.
9 | ERRTU | 10/1 |
Gold Legend mare coming off a lackluster effort in her last. She ran on turf for almost half her starts and now has found comfort on the brown stuff. Another mare shipping back to the States seeking her first graded win and perhaps a change of scenery. She’s yet another that picks up minor checks at this level and wants to prove she can finally finish the job. Hopefully her last out was a fluke and not a downward slide.
10 | 8/1 |
Dixieland Band mare stepping up to SP100 level as of late. She showed promise of graded status as a 2yo, but never reached that level. Now at 5yo she is starting to show signs that this just may be the year. She won a listed event two races back at today’s distance in a spectacular SP111. Her last out was on a sloppy surface, so we’ll ignore that. All told, she should be primed and ready for this.
11 | AUSSIE DYNOMITE | 5/1 |
Dynaformer mare that has been OTM only once in her last 11 starts. She’s picked up six wins in that span, and has posted 11 consecutive SP100+. This will be her 1st try at graded and she deserves to be here. CPU favorite and rightly so. The race sets up well for her running style, as she can go with the pace or stalk depending on how it develops. Decent jock aboard should be able to follow instructions well. Starting on the outside shouldn’t be a problem getting to a good rail position.
12 | PYE | 8/1 |
G1 winner at 9f, this Viscount sired mare started off her career on turf and did quite well. Switching to dirt improved her SP’s and the rest is history. With wins from 9 to 12f she should have no problem here as far as that goes. She likes the front end and that may prove to be somewhat of a challenge with the speed inside. However, she was overmatched in her last two starts, so this is actually a class drop. Another item to ponder is nextbonus in the saddle; who knows what will occur J Fortunately, he’s been on the wagon as of late. Despite the misgivings, she has a decent shot in this.
As the odds attest, this is a wide open race. A guess at an exata box =
