lool Oaks Grade I Race for Fillies
Lool Oaks is a Grade I race for 3 year old fillies covering a mile and one sixteenth over fast dirt. These 14 fillies are hopefuls for the Kentucky Oaks and will battle it out here. A few fillies are hoping for graded stake points some just getting another run in.
1. (6/1) MEAN GIRL (KY) – gg – (Came Home X Machavellian) This fillies best effort came last time out in the 7.5 furlongs Grade I where she ran second. She has won mile long stakes races and her two attempts at a further distance were Grade 1 and had not so great results. In the Breeder’s Bowl Filly race, it was a tough race, so 10th honestly says nothing about the horses ability. But in the Vermont is for lovers G1 she finished 5th and fading she also posted a 99 speed. She’s very talented and there are some suggestions for distance, but she hasn’t shown it to be her favorite yet.
2. (18/1) DIE VERWANDLUNG (GER) – chilcoat2 – (Monsun x Gone West) This little girl only broke her maiden only 4 races back. She has one stakes attempt going 9 furlongs where against a small field of 6 she won by ¼ a length after a 7 length lead. She ran 3rd in the California G1 Oaks showing she had the talent and skill to run here. She was 17/1 in that race and got an easy early lead only to get caught and passed crossing the wire 3 ¼ lengths behind. Shows a lot of promise and determination, and would be a decent bet.
3. (5/1) MINISTER OF HUMOR (KY) – bandinni – (Distorted Humor x Deputy Minister) In her short 6 race career this little girl has done no wrong. 6 for 6 including the Grade 3 We Get Signal Stakes covering a mile in 103. Ever improving the distance has so far proven no problem for this filly. After showing a front running style her first mile attempt, she sat second in her last race and was able to pull ahead and win. Very interesting filly, but I am always wary of the ones that are undefeated. However, she looks tough.
4. (10/1) SEHR GUT (NZ) – scootboy – (Danske X Kenmare) This successful filly has only one start out side of her sprint races. Last time out she started and won the Pharbold Phar Stakes going a mile. There were only 5 horses in the field and she won by the fuzz on her nose. But she proved she was ready for this chance. For a filly of such obscure breeding she has proven very talented and looks to gain her first graded route win.
5. (21/1) DESERT LEGEND (KY) – kjracing – (Vindication X Sadler’s Wells) With unbelievable turf breeding I am surprised she has done so well on dirt. Having proven turf was not her favorite surface this little girl has been running in a slew of stakes races hitting the board but not winning. Though she is improving and showed the 8.5 furlongs is a favorable distance in her last race. She posted a career best speed and was looking for more ground. Looks to improve here.
6. (7/1) DISTORTED BID (KY) – pointblank – (Distorted Humor X A.P. Indy) Has a solid career established in routs and running in graded races. Her last time out was a throw out she didn’t like the surface. Her attempt in the Grade 2 Louisiana Oaks was game. Honestly I think she’s looking for more ground than she will get here but talented filly none the less and will definitely battle it out here.
7. (8/1) RATTYBURG (KY) – darnath3 – (Johannesburg X Wild Again) Winner of the G1 California Oaks with a nice speed of 97. Not spectacular but with a 2 length victory it didn’t need to be. Likes the distance and is improving off every start. Not too much not to like, will face tougher competition here but should enjoy the challenge.
8. (8/1) LUZERNE (KY) – malekfarms – (Pulpit X Danzig) This little girl has only one attempt at a mile, but excuses were made. She was sore and took a 2 month rest and returned to gain back some of her old glamour. Now she is fit and ready to take on the mile plus race again. She was looking for more ground in her last race going 7.5 and will find it here.
9. (7/1) PRAYER IS (OK) – pazfarms – (Diamond X Storm Cat) With only one start at a route off the board this filly definitely likes the distance. She has proven a mile is ok with her but she looks like she could go longer. Nice filly that has improved off past efforts and looks to be tough here.
10. (28/1) BANJO ATTACK (KY) – simond4 – (Bluegrass Cat X Unbridled) Nice name. Shows potential, and closes well. With an injury in the last 8.5 furlong attempt she was put on rest. Coming back she ran well in a mile Grade 3 stakes and looks to be ready to handle more. Long odds have some warrant, her other start over this distance had this little girl slowing up. But it could have been the injury starting or just a bad day. The real test is today.
11. (22/1) CRUSHING IGNORANCE (KY) – zwango – (Pulpit X Storm Bird) Broke her maiden back in December in a restricted race. Went on quickly to win two allowances one with a 91 speed. She was able to improve off that effort last time out in the Grade 2 Fantasia Handicap. There she finished a beaten 6th but with an improved speed effort of 93. There is a lot of other front speed in this race; unless she can sit back she will burn out.
12. (9/1) SISSON’S MARK (ENG) – binzaman02 – (Mark of Esteem X A.P. Indy) After beginning her career on turf this little girl was tried out on dirt where she easily broke her maiden at first asking. With three easy wins and a 2nd in a Grade 2 9 furlong race this little girl is tough. She should really like the distance here, 9 furlongs seemed good and 8 too short. 8.5 will be a nice distance and she’s prime for nice run. 9/1 seems a bit long for this girl.
13. (30/1) RETRIBUTION ANGEL (KY) – zewango – (Seeking the Gold X Touch Gold) Interesting entry. Having only run on turf this little girl has only 4 starts. Successful on dirt never worse than 2nd she likes the distance finishing 2nd by very little going 8.5 on turf in a stakes race. Probably curiosity inspired switch to dirt for this little girl. It will be interesting to see if she has the same talent on dirt as turf.
14. (7/1) SMELL IT (JPN) – inzy4 – (Afleet X Mountain Cat) This little ran a heavenly 104 in her last start running second by ½ a length in the Grade 1 The Senorita. For her distance is not the problem, nor the surface. She honestly looks tough and very capable of a win here. My only concern is with a huge effort last out she may bounce and not run as well. But that would be fine and would set her up for the Kentucky Oaks. She just needs to get in the points to get in the top 20 as right now she sits at 21.
This race will be very dependent on running style. With lots of front runners it will be a battle of speed. I think in the top positions will be numbers 14, 3, 12, 9. Not in that order with a long shot bet on the 2 a talented filly that could show up and surprise.
