A stroll in the park for Horseshoe Bay

The Prix Du Jockey Club(G1) on Saturday was turned into little more than an exhibition by the horse who has proved time and again the best of his generation over the classic distance. It has got to a point now where rival trainers will send their charges anywhere and everywhere to avoid taking on Horseshoe Bay, as they know there is only going to be one result.

The racing public are now clamoring for a match-up of Horseshoe Bay with the older generation and if my interview with texasace prior to racing is anything to go by, they will have their wish in his next race. The trainer was using this race as a prep for the Ark De Triumph(G1) in 4 weeks where he may meet Bristol Rovers, amongst others. We won’t have a true idea of Horseshoe Bay’s worth until the meeting of generations. Can he do to the older horses what he has done to his contemporaries? I was handed a list of the fastest 12-furlong races ever run by Horseshoe Bay, Sunnybank Memorial and Allied Assault by an interested onlooker. Between them the older pair have run 7 races faster than Horseshoe Bay’s best time, with a couple of those times being achieved as 3yo’s. Horseshoe Bay still has it to prove against that pair.

On the other side of the Atlantic, Horseshoe Bay’s great rival, Jupiter’s Moons flew the flag for the sophomores in the Man Of War(G1) where he ran an even race to finish 6th, 6 lengths behind Sunnybank Memorial. On that evidence Horseshoe Bay still has some catching-up to do on his older rival.

This was Horseshoe Bay’s 6th G1 win in a row, a feat never before accomplished, at least not in my knowledge and it moves him to 11th place on the list of lifetime G1 wins achieved.

He is already a superstar but can he become a legend?
