What a Ride!

In a textbook perfect ride, leading jockey A Smith guided Seven Skies to her best race yet and a win in the $55,000 Boomer Belly Stakes.  In her previous four races, even while winning twice, the daughter of Septieme Ciel had trouble rating.

This time, Smith let Skies sit just off a dueling pair and swoop by in the stretch on a tiring surface rated “good.”  Even though the winning distance was less than a length, she looked much the best over the place and show fillies.

The Francsoir stable had run Seven Skies against the boys in her last two outings.  She is now three for three against her own sex.

The winner paid $12.60, $5.90, $3.90.

The favorite, Shergar’s Sinndahill, got caught up in a suicidal speed duel with BezStables’ Lagagogo.  The latter, while behind in every fraction, briefly gained the lead near the top of the stretch, but faded.

Sinndahill’s lack of progress over her last three races looks worrisome.

Along with Francsoir, DKYoung3 should also be encouraged by the race.  That stable’s Flash Storm made a belated run and, while only finishing fourth, appeared to be moving fastest at the wire.
