The Sand Castle Golden Sprint

Sand Castle Golden Sprint – This grade 1 race is the gathering of lightening. With some of the fastest horses in the Sim, there is no wonder there is no clear favorite. Going 6 furlongs on dirt 14 horses will take the field each hoping for a taste of the million dollar purse. As the sun shines down on the paddock, you can feel the tension as the horses are saddles and walked. Each horse reacts differently, some are unconcerned and picking on their handler, others eyeing the competition giving threatening looks to their neighbors. With this much speed packed in to one 1200 pound package, this is going to be one wild fire of a race.

1.     (11/1) FIVE SKIES (IRE) – galorette – (Giant’s Causeway X Gone West) First in the post parade is the 1, a 4 year old colt who switched back to dirt only 5 races back winning 4 of them. With a very nice run LTO in the Senior Storm Challenge winning by 1 ¼ with a 112 speed. Trainer galorette is hoping this jump in class will be met with his recent winning style. Five Skies has definitely found his stride and will be a good price at 11/1.

2.     (12/1) UNAVAILABLE – lenny6 – (Broad Brush X Forty Niner) A 6 year old brown colt stalks by second in the post parade. This colt was 4th in the DPCD sprint championship but only by 2 lengths and finishing with a 108 speed. A nice tough colt has many nice races to his credit. He has been improving steadily with his only bad start being a throw out because of the condition of the track. Another horse that seems to be underestimated by the betters.

3.     (12/1) SMOULDERING STREET – magoo2912 – (Fool’s Pleasure X Graustark) The first of the many returners of the Breeder’s Bowl Sprint runner will come from the 3rd post. This guy only finished 7th but since has a nice second in the DPCD Sprint posting a 111 speed only losing by ½ a length and gaining.  His last race was tough he struggled through the slop, and came out tired, but after a long rest this colt is putting in good works and looks strong.

4.     (12/1) GRAND ARBITER(JPN) – lender2 – (Agnes World X Gone West) With this 4 year olds last race in the G3 Arizona Silver Spoon where he finished 3rd by 2 ½ lengths this colt looks a very relaxed.  Only a few starts back this colt ran 112 speeds in two big Grade 1 races. He has not broken 110 since but has run some nice races. Will have to give his all to get in the money here.

5.     (20/1) BLEACHER CREATURE – twoyearold – (Grand Slam X Event of the Year) This five year old colt has been steadily improving moving from the allowance ranks to graded company. However, since getting there has only hit the board once. If he performs like he did in his last allowance race where he posted a 111 speed there will not be any problems. But with only 2 weeks rest I think he is overstepping what he can accomplish.

6.     (7/1) LANNISTER GOLD (KY) –grrm – (Forestry X Seeking the Gold) This big 4 year old colt has posted some very big speeds including last four over 110.  His biggest race came in the G2 Wicker Sofa Stakes where he won with a 116 speed. I would worry about his speed since it was on the slop.  However, though it is his best speed he has proven that he is just as dangerous on a fast track.

7.     (7/1) WONDERBOY DJ – wonder2 – (Carson City X Seattle Slew)  This colt was second to the number 6 last time out in the G2 Wicker Sofa, only loosing by ½ length and this big guy was 3rd in the Breeders Bowl Sprint only 3 starts ago.  A consistent runner that has been paced excellently and was 4th in this race last year.  Over all a tough competitor that looks to be very strong today.

8.     (8/1) HENNESSY TITANS – slewbetcha – (Hennessy X Mr. Prospector) This colts last two races have been his most impressive, posting 111 and a 112. Having only run 14 days ago, trainer slewbetcha set this colt up to improve, and the colt looks to be ready prancing around and showing his energy.  His best speeds have come covering 6 furlongs and looks well placed here.

9.     (10/1) SHADES OF GOLD – sdmf2 – (Seeking the Gold X Danehill) This 5 year old brown horse changes owners only 8 starts back and a lucky new trainer sdmf2 got the colt.  Since then has won three stakes, with his best effort coming in the Delpenn Breeders Cup Sprint where he posted a 112 to close to second. Has only one graded attempt under the new trainer lto where he finished 7 but only by 3 ¾ lengths. Will need to show some fire to get in here.

10.   (8/1) IN A SIMPLE RHYME – zewango4 – (Forty Niner X Mr. Prospector) We are honored today to have the runner up in the G1 Breeder’s Bowl sprint in the race today. Posting a 112 to lose to the great Tired Wings, no shame in being beat by that filly and it takes nothing away from this colt. His next start he posted a 114, hasn’t hit since that race but has had a decent rest with 3 weeks of light work to have him prepped for today.

11.   (11/1) WESTERN ROMP TED (KY) – apocalypse – (Gone West X Blushing Groom) This 4 year old colt was the winner of the DPCD G1 sprint, who posted a 112 and has raced 3 times since. None of those starts showed the flair he had in the DPCD. Well managed and looks relaxed in the post parade, walking and warming up calmly. Hopefully will show his past fire to get up for the money here.

12.   (9/1) DEATH ALLEY DRIVER – sdfm5 – (Gone West X Northern Dancer) Another colt coming from the barn of Sdfm, this 5 year old horse looks more impressive than his stable mate.  Though this colt obviously loves a bit more ground than he’s going to get here. His biggest and best races have come going 7 furlongs. His last two starts going 6 furlongs have posted some good runs. A 5th in the Breeder’s Bowl Sprint and then a 4th in an open stakes. With his last start over 7 not as hot as his previous ones, this shorter race looks to be the right spot.

13.   (13/1) SKANONYMOUS –sighclone – (Yonaguska X Deputy Minister) For having longer odds this colt is definitely a good price. Having run his last 5 races in some of the best sprint races around. Winning three of his last 6 only ending his winning streak with a dismal 13th in the Breeder’s Bowl Sprint. One race since showed this colt was tired and trainer sighclone gave this horse a nice layoff. If he is fit and ready this colt could be tough to beat. This will be her first start this year.

14.   (8/1) FERNANDO STORM – muninn240 – (Storm Cat X Seeking the Gold) This Colt is a big question mark. Obviously well trained and has the perfect streak of 6 wins including 2 graded races. Improving speeds and honestly if he is on he will win today. Nice horse, in the post parade looks fast and fit and rearing to go. This will be his biggest test yet, though in the G3 Arizona Silver Spoon he beat some of the horses in this race. So he is qualified and ready, let’s see what will happen.

The top horses will burn the track to fight for the win, 3 will be fresh off the rest and will show a nice improvement, 14 will burn up the track only to be caught by the, 7 who will pull off the win. However, with theses three horses any order of finish wouldn’t surprise me. Top quality horses; look for a big speed and one happy trainer.
