Sister Dumb Stakes
Sister Dumb Stakes – A Six furlong dirt sprint for fillies and mares 4 years old and up. A purse of $225,000 is at stake and these 11 fillies look ready to run. As they circle the paddock some seem cool and collected, others look ready to fight. With their bright coats gleaming and their trainers looking proudly on, we are ready to take a good look at the field.
1. (10/1) BATTLEFIELD EARTH (GB) –Mrbigb – (Diesis X Kingmambo) We start off with a 5 year old brown mare with 35 starts to her credit and 13 wins. She is also the returning champ having won this race last year with a 103 speed and by a length. Her last race is a throw out; the jockey lost his stirrup and almost fell off. 6 furlongs seems to be her distance, and we are hoping she can bring back some of her old grandeur and win again here today.
2. (6/1) OLD FRENCH LUV – theoldguy – (Empire Maker X Theatrical) The number 2 horse is a big brown mare. At 5 years old she has only 18 starts and despite running in many stakes has yet to win one. Though has some impressive seconds, and last start was one of those. Going 6 furlongs in the Ms. Burglar stakes she posted a 106 speed to get edged out by a length and a half by the winner. The next horse was over 3 legnths back. With a good race last out she is looking to break her curse and a little French Luv can be a quick to the wire.
3. (8/1) HEART OF LIGHT (KY) – mav1764 – (Tiznow X Unbridled) This dainty brown mare maybe be little but she is fierce. 19 races with 10 wins. Large speeds in recent races, a 110 to win the Quiet Royalty Stakes, and a 108 LTO to win the allowance prep for this race. This obviously fast filly seems like a sure winner. The only concern is that she has not run 6 furlongs since she was a 2 year old. Now 5 her preferred distance seems to be 7 furlongs. With her running style it should not be too much of a problem.
4. (9/1) FU MAN CHU CHI – Mahler – (Fusaichi Pegasus X Strike Gold) This 7 year old brown mare has recent been enjoying a successful career in allowance ranks winning 4 of the last 7 starts all at her favorite distance of 6 furlongs. Looking for a step up in class, will need to show the speed she has show in the past to get in here. Has some big races back there when she was not sure of what she wanted. Now that she excels at 6 furlongs let’s see if she can fly.
5. (3/1) ENGLISH GARDEN (IRE) – blueiband – (Rock of Gibraltar X A.P. Indy) A very large gleaming chestnut mare stands as the favorite in this race. As a 5 year old she has won 13 races out of 33 run including 4 solid stakes wins on dirt and even a few on turf. Posted big speeds in her last six races. The best came in the Gordie’s Prints Memorial covering the 6.5 on dirt in 112. Last two races at 6 furlongs didn’t show her spark, but trainer Blueiband confided that she wasn’t working the way she did before. However, now she is back to her old form and has put in some nice works and looks ready to go.
6. (10/1) TURF ANGEL (KY) – dokki3 – (Rahy X Its True) This little brown mare is only 4 years old and seems to be a bit nervous. She has been hit or miss in her last few starts, making a dazzling run posting a 107 then coming back the next start to finish 13th with a 90 speed. She seems to let her nerves get to her before the races. If she manages to stay cool she can run well having won graded races and hitting the board in others at 3. If she can fire she will be tough to catch.
7. (8/1) MARY WALKER (KY) – snagraal – (Afleet Alex X Sadler’s Wells) this 4 year old filly is the spitting image of her daddy. However, unlike her dad she has more speed than staying power and she loves 6 furlongs. She looks to run well as she gave a good prep in her last start closing to finish second in the C My Tail Stakes with a 104 speed. She has a good shot at closing here but there is some solid front end speed that might take her out of the running. Hopefully she can run them down to cross the wire in front.
8. (6/1) MADAM IVOR (IRE) – Revelation – (Galileo X Kingmambo) This 5 year old brown mare looks to be tough. In her last 10 races she has only posted under 100 2 times. One on an off track and the other a 6 furlong race in which she won by 1 ½ never even asked for speed. She is only improving posting career best last 2 times out going 7 furlongs both times with a 105 speed. Trainer revelation is hoping that the shorter distance can get her to fire sooner and allow this filly to take a nice win.
9. (8/1) NISH (KY) – teds – (Pulpit X Deputy Minister) This 4 year old Chestnut mare is going to be very happy today. After big effort on slop her last three starts, trainer teds hopes that she will appreciate the fast track. Proven she can run with a 110 speed going 7.5 in the slop to finish only 5th, will look better placed here going only 6 furlongs. But may be a bit inexperienced in the stakes ranks, hopefully will show the talent and heart that is obvious from her physical form. A stunning mare and will do well in the breeding shed after her race career, over all trainer teds got a nice claim the day he won this one.
10. (12/1) WHONBID (KY) – bredtosell – (Erewhon X Danzig) This 4 year old brown mare tangoed with the number 8 last time out. Another x claimer who found her true stride after leaving starter company with two solid allowance wins posting decent speeds each time. Improving with almost every race, this little filly is ready to go dancing around her handler and pinning her ears at the other horses. Hopefully she will save some for the race and continue to improve. Trainer Bredtosell seems optimistic, “win or lose she has proven to be a good claim and has earned back her price, we are just giving her the opportunity the last trainer couldn’t.
11. (17/1) AWESOME CUCHI (KY) – beisbol – (Awesome Again X A.P. Indy) This little filly is the not so long shot of the race. A 4 year old with 17 starts and 6 wins, looks a little uncomfortable in the paddock. Her best race came in the Georgia Granny Special where she closed to a 7th by 3 ¼ lengths posting a career best 101 speed. She has 2 stakes wins to her credit both on an off track. Trainer Beisbol was praying for rain but thinks the filly can fire and if not it will be good experience.
After looking at all the fillies I am most impressed with the number 3, Heart of Light with the favorite number 5, English Garden and the 8, Madam Ivor who closes like a freight train and will battle it out to the wire.
