dunn preview – erc frankel

Sweden (SWE)
Saturday, May 8, 2021 — 3:00 PM EST | Race ID: 2527356
Stakes – Purse $100,000
Restricted to 3 Year Olds
9 furlongs on Turf

Today we are at Bro Park in beautiful Bro Sweden for the ERC Frankel, a 9 furlong race on the turf featuring eight frisky three year olds.  They’re racing for the winner’s share of the $100,000 purse, with the victorious owner/trainer also collecting club stakes bonus points which will determine a club champion at year end. This is a closely matched group, so jockey tactics and racing luck will probably play important roles in determining the winner.

Here is a closer look at the field:

#5
fox footsteps
murrayspond barn
w farthing                     10/1

Out of the murrayspond barn (newfy) is this three year old son of PROFITABLE out of the Sim Mare DANE POWER. He is named for the greatest Canadian of all time, Terry Fox, who ran across the country on one leg to raise money for cancer research in 1980. He comes in off back to back five furlong wins with the most recent being at an allowance race in Turkey where he ran 91 speed. He is being stretched out here by ownership but he tends to race off the pace and that strategy will serve him well as he battles the nine furlong track and this impressive field.

#8
elite sepoy
jbcri17 barn
g moss                         10/1

Out of the jbcri17 barn is this three year old son of SEPOY out of the Sim Mare ELITE KAMEHAMEHA.  He has finished in the money in five of his seven starts including two wins. He makes his first Stakes start here but had a nice prep last time out when he went eight and a half furlongs in an impressive win in New York. Look for him to sit middle of the pack before kicking it into high gear as they come down the stretch. He garner some interest at the betting windows as he competes out of the eight hole.

#3
blow er up
dunn2downs barn
b schardein                  5/1

Out of the dunn2downs barn is this three year old scratch bred son of ERUPT ( x IGNITION x TIA PAN). He comes in off an easy win last time out at an Allowance race in Denmark where he ran 90 speed over the nine and a half furlong dirt track. He returns to the grass here and might be primed for his first 100 speed race and should be in the mix as they make the turn for home. Ownership looks for a place on the board after a disappointing finish last week at the ERC Derby.

#4
monterosso’s cry
dontbetonme4 barn
k thomas                      2/1

Out of the dontbetonme4 barn is this three year old son of MONTEROSSO out of the Sim Mare DESPERATE CRY.  Our most experienced entry makes his thirteenth career start with all coming on the turf. He began the 2021 campaign with back to back wins at this same distance and followed those up with a fourth place finish at the “Show Me” in Newmarket England. He ran 102 speed two back and if he can repeat that he should find a spot on the board.

#2
just plain fast
rac7 barn
a alm                            4/1

Out of the rac7 barn (summerset) is this three year old son of FASTNET ROCK out of the Sim Mare FORTY NINE STARS. He makes his first start in 2021 after finishing up his two-year old campaign with a seventh place finish at the G1 “Irish Christmas Classic”. He has three wins in his career including a G2 at the “Vintage” back in late July 2020. He should like the distance and will look for his first ERC win after finishing runner-up in his other residency start at the “Sea the Stars”. Hopefully he will remember which way to run as the gates open.

#7
key indicator
harrylanexp20 barn
m mason                     3/1

Out of the harrylanexp20 barn is this three year old scratch bred son of LOPE DE VEGA ( x DANEHILL DANCER x NUREYEV). He has finished in the money in six of his eight starts and comes in off three straight wins with the most recent being a 103 speed romp at the “One Big Rush Turf Route”. He finished second in the previous ERC “Frankel” which took place in Japan last August and was won by the summerset barn. He will look to turn the tables here and will likely go to the lead early and see if anyone can catch him.

#1
big marble
chino16 barn
s marts                         15/1

Out of the chino16 barn is this three year old son of THE GURKHA out of the Sim Mare TETE DALED. He comes in off a fifth place finish at this same distance at an Allowance race in South Africa where he ran 86 speed. Two back he broke his Maiden with a gate to wire win where he ran a career best 87 speed and won by two lengths. He goes off as a long shot and may be overmatched against this group today

#6
hola halo
amir1661 barn
a park                           11/1

Out of the amir1661 barn is this three year old scratch bred son of RULER OF THE WORLD ( x MACHIAVELLIAN x RAHY). He has finished in the money in two of his five career starts with two wins. Last time out he was stretched out to eleven furlongs and tried the dirt for the first time and that combination resulted in a last place finish. This distance and surface should suit him just fine and he should be in the mix and might be a nice surprise pick.
