Rio Chix In Argentina’s Italy Cat Memorial

The tenth race on the card this afternoon her in Argentina was the Italy Cat Memorial. Only four fillies were scheduled to run in this years seven furlong turf sprint with a prize purse up for grabs of $55,000. The four fillies made their way easily to the starting gate, all loading easily and waiting patiently for the race to begin.

When the chutes clanged open and the four fillies came charging out of the gates and onto the track it was Alteri Sort (ITY), owned by hawkz3, who came out the early leader by one and three-fourth lengths over the gatornavy trained Doomben (AUS). Running along in third just two and one-fourth lengths off the early leader was Rio Chix (IRE), trained and owned by alien23. Out of the gates last and trailing the field early on was the pre-race favorite, cheatjoker owned Tom N Jerry.

Alteri Sort (ITY) lengthened her lead over the rest of the field to two and three-fourth lengths with Doomben (AUS) running just behind in the second position. Three and a half lengths off of the leader was Rio Chix (IRE). Tom N Jerry was now six and a half lengths off the pace of the leader.

The field came for the turn now and Alteri Sort (ITY) still had the lead but only by a length and three-fourths now with Rio Chix (IRE) who was flying on the inside rocking from third into second and now beginning to cut into the lead of pacesetter Alteri Sort (ITY) Now two lengths back in third was Doomben (AUS). Race favorite Tom N Jerry was still running last in the pack but was now only four and a half lengths off the pace and looked to be picking things up and making her run in the stretch.

As the field charged down the stretch Rio Chix (IRE) and favorite Tom N Jerry overtook the tiring pacesetter Alteri Sort (ITY). Rio Chix (IRE) and the lead and was trying to hold of the charging favorite Tom N Jerry. The pair came down to the wire and it was Rio Chix (IRE), owned and trained by alien23 just managing to hold off the favorite Tom N Jerry for the win by three-fourths of a length. The winning filly tied her lifetime best speed figure of eighty-six under jockey E. Seifert. Tom N Jerry was close up in third with the fading Alteri Sort (ITY) finishing one and three-fourth lengths back in third.
