We have a great field here with some up an comers in the three year old ranks and last years Horse of the Year as well. Some of these youngsters are really starting to mature and could be the next big thing in our race world. There are several young girls here looking to make a statement with an upset of the super star and that is certainly not out of the realm of possiblities so let’s take a look:

(REGAL CLASSIC x CZARAVICH x NORTHROP) Trainer Coon certainly had a good eye with this little chestnut filly grabbing her in a Maiden Claimer for $35,000 in her second race. She won that one and has finished first or second ever since including three Stakes wins. Very nice! This will be her very first Graded outing though and the longest run of her career as well. We will have to wait to see how that translates, especially with Gabaccio in the leather and he is still looking for his first win of the season. She is a front runner and should love the inside post but I’m a bit worried that this race will be a little long for her.

(HOLY BULL x SPINNING WORLD x QUACK out of HORNED INNING) This will be only the third race for the charcoal colored filly. She had her first start a couple of days before Christmas with not very inspiring results trainer BDHP and the OneWorld Stables switched her to grass and she came out hopping with a sizzling 90 SPF and a maiden win. She will have to grow up in a hurry here but has the hot hand of jockey Barker on the reins. She looks to be overmatched but she hasn’t had much time to show what she can do. She will certainly have the opportunity here.

(MONTJEU (IRE) x KINGMAMBO x SECRETARIAT out of OBSTREPEROUS) A nicely bred lady that had won three in a row including a Restricted Stakes race before finishing fourth in a GIII last time out. That was an extra half furlong and was her first time at the Graded level but her 90 SPF will probably have to improve to move up here. Trainer MalekFarms and the AFC Stables will be watching here to see if she can compete against this crowd or become another flashy two year old that seems to be stuck at the Regular Stakes level. It won’t hurt that jockey Cling is up as he is still looking for his very first win of the year and here we are half way through February.

( MIESQUE’S APPROVAL x UNBRIDLED’S SONG x CORONADO’S QUEST out of BRIDE’S SONG) What can you say about this Super Star that hasn’t already been said? After winning the Horse of the Year for two year olds, she has started off her three year old campaign with two consecutive Graded wins including the LOADED CHARGER GI last time out. She has hit triple digits in her SPFs and it just remains to be seen whether she will be taking on the colts in some of the big turf races later this year. Trainer DaBears and the SmokeGlack Stables have put jockey Jef in the saddle and he has been splendid this year as well. All in all, it is hard to come up with a scenario where this team will be beat in this race.

( KING’S BEST(IRE) x DIESIS(GB) x SADLER’S WELLS out of SDFSA) This chocolate filly’s name may be a bit of an exaggeration but not by much. You are talking about a young lady that has never finished lower than second in her six races and really seems to love this distance. She ran and conquered her first Stakes race last time out in the HUSHWING HAWK HDCP over a short field but trainer and owner Desperado5 has brought her along slowly and wouldn’t like nothing better than to watch her upset the big Superstar in this race. They will be helped by Jockey Brenner who has been hot as a firecracker this year. She will probably be starting the race behind our favorite so had better leave enough at the end to pass a rocket in the stretch. Could be interesting.

( NOTHING TO LOSE x SHAADI x COMPLIANCE) out of MISS GRACIE) Lots of questions here as this filly started off her career with five wins in her first six races and has struggled a bit since then. This will be her second race over a mile and that hasn’t been answered yet either. Trainer Wins and the Clement-Migliore Stables would love to see some answers here and are entrusting the race to jockey Henly who may be questioning a few things himself as he looks for his first win of the season. We will see if there are any tears from this team at the end of the race.

( LAYMAN x MONTJEU (IRE) x GRAN ALBA out of SHIRE STAR) A three times Stakes winner, she has really looked good since moving to the mile since late last year. Trainer and owner BeamerBB would really like to see this pretty chestnut girl take the next step here. She is a frontrunner that will have to hurry to get down to the rail with the help of jockey Allen who has only one win in his fourteen mounts this year. This could be a tough spot with three of the best horses charging hard from the back in the race so she will need to save some pace for the end.

( MARIA’S MON x FUSAICHI PEGASUS x NORTHERN DANCER out of FUMASCUS) Since turning to the grass four back, this lovely cream colored filly is undefeated and that includes two Stakes and a Graded that she won last time out with an impressive 98.5 SPF. Trainer ShadowClaw and the long-time successful Given Stables look like they have another contender in this girl and she should certainly be in the mix at the end of this one. She is another late closer and the stretch should be quite interesting if there is enough room for everyone. Jockey Cooper is more than capable of pulling the upset here and would like nothing better.

( EL PRADO(IRE) x LEAR FAN x IDE out of LIQUORED UP FROG) Apparently named for the movie “Lucky Number Slevin” an excellent crime thriller that is wrapped around a fixed horse race, this dark grey filly is pretty excellent herself. After a couple of Stakes wins for trainer WillRoam, she has been close in a couple of Graded races with a third and a fifth place finish. She seems to need some sort of bump to get her over the top and it may be forthcoming from the hottest jockey at the track in a great Valentines week name in E.N.Tice. She is a stalker that may put her in the rocking chair between the rabbit and the many foxes in this race. That may be just the place to be and things seem to be lining up for a finish in the mix for this team.

( DANASURIA (AUS) x KRIS S. x THEATRICAL(IRE) out of KRISTRICAL FOOLS) I wouldn’t want to be calling this race with the name of this filly in it but it is a combination of all three sires in her pedigree. She has been a bit up and down since moving to the grass for trainer PuddinPuss and the TSyndicate Stables. She seems to have the speed but is running the Stakes races as if in awe of the other talent around her. She is in a bit of a tough spot here as she is generally a front runner who will need to travel a lot of ground to get down inside from the farthest post. There isn’t a lot of early speed in this race though and that could be to her advantage. If she can just start to believe in herself, she could contend here.

It appears that this race could be our favorite and then everyone else but that may not be the case. I like HAWKLAH to finish fourth although she may finish much better. She will need to hold on at the end with lots of horsepower charging up the lane after her at the end. The next two you will probably be able to throw a large horse blanket over at the wire but I have OTTO TRIBUTE in third and BEST THERE IS getting second by a nose. Any one of these girls could bring the upset but you have to go with MIESQUE’S GOLD for the win as she has the look of a truly special horse that gets up when the gettin’ needs gettin’ the most. I don’t think the others will catch her here.
