Four Fillies To Run In Italy Cat Memorial
The tenth race on our race card here in Argentina this weekend is the listed Italy Cat Memorial. This seven furlong race will be run over the turf and is open to only three year old fillies. The weather has been nothing short of pristine here in Argentina, however the seven furlong race only attracted a field of four fillies to run on Saturday. Look for the turf track to be listed as firm at post time on Saturday. Lets take a brief glance at the four fillies running on Saturday.
Drawing the rail will be Doomben (AUS) (Kempinsky x Straight Strike x Danseur Etoile (FR)), who is owned and trained by gatornavy, owner of Hawkz Racing Stables. The Australian bay filly has had a total of five races throughout her career, of which two these have ended in wins for the three year old. She has also placed once and finished third once as well, leaving the filly only one race in which she has not finished on the board. Her most recent start was in December of last year during the seven and a half furlong listed Carrick A Rede (IRE) Special where the filly broke out of the gate and went straight into third. But the filly never fired throughout the race and finished where she started, in third. Her most recent win came in an allowance caliber start over seven furlongs in Athens last July. The the filly broke out of the gate and was held in fifth, but she quickly took off after other horses in the race and was nipping at the leaders heals in the turn. She made a late challenge and went on to win the race by one-fourth of a length.
In the second slot is Rio Chix (IRE) (Oratorio (IRE) x Spinning World x Spectacular Bid), who is out of the stakes-placed dam Dixie Chix, and is owned by allen23, owner of Karie’s Super Stables That Kick Ass. The spectacular Irish-bred chestnut filly has had a total of six lifetime starts so far in her racing career. Half of these starts have ended in wins for the chestnut filly, along with one finish in second and another in third, leaving the filly only one race in which she did not finish on the board. Her most recent start came last December in the six furlong Super Gold Handicap (G1) over the turf in Maryland where the filly broke out of the gate near last in the field and settled into eleventh. In the turn she began to make her move and bounded into ninth. She let loose in the stretch but it wasn’t enough, with the filly crossing the wire in third posting a speed figure of eighty-three. Her most recent win came in Ireland in September during the More Glare Stakes (G2) over seven furlongs where the filly won by a length and three-fourths after going wire to wire in the race.
In at odds of 5/1 is Alteri Sort (ITY) (Alteri x Carnegie (IRE) x Sort), who is trained and owned by hawkz3, owner of Hawkz Racing Stables. This bay three year old filly has had a total of seven career starts. To her record the filly has two wins, three places and two shows to her credit, giving the filly the distinction of never finishing out of the top three in her entire racing career. Her most recent start came in December of last year during the mile long listed Solar Jove Memorial where the filly went straight to the lead by one-fourth of a length. Her lead was short lived however when closers caught her in the stretch. The filly ultimately finished four lengths back in third with a speed figure set of eighty-one. Her most recent win was just the previous race, this coming in November, in the Class Ack Juvenile Restricted where the filly won by two lengths after going wire to wire in the seven furlong turf sprint.
Drawing the far outside post in the race will be the favorite, Tom N Jerry (Dixie Union x Tom Rolfe x Ribot), who is trained by cheatjoker, owner of Redcheats Stables. The Kentucky-bred chestnut filly has a total of seven career starts so far in her racing record. Of these seven starts, the filly has emerged victorious four of these times, along with two finishes in second, leaving the filly only one start in which she did not finish in the top three. Her most recent race came last month in Texas during the mile long Broadside Stakes (G3) where the chestnut filly broke out of the gate a beat slow and settled far off the pace in twelfth. She’d moved up to eighth in the turn but didn’t have enough left in the stretch when she crossed the wire in sixth with a speed figure of ninety. Her most recent win came in December during the eight furlong listed Nurse Allison Bonanza where the filly won by a narrow three-fourths of a length after setting back in sixth for the entire race. Here she posted a lifetime best speed figure of ninety-six.
