Small Field Scheduled For Shananie’s Swamps Handicap
The tenth race on the card for this upcoming weekend here in the Sunshine State is the listed Shananie’s Swamps Stakes over eight and a half furlongs on the dirt. The listed race is open to only three year old fillies. Perhaps scared away from the race by a proclaimed 20% chance of rain on Saturday, only four fillies drew into Saturday’s running of the Shananie’s Swamps Handicap. It looks now as if the track will dodge the thunderstorms that will be in the area, leaving the track to come up fast on race day. Let’s take a look at the fillies running on Saturday.
Drawing the rail will be I Break The Rules (Sunday Break (JPN) x Deputy Minister x Bold Ruler), who is trained by court4, owner of Liddleski Empire. This bay filly has had a total of five lifetime career starts, all have which have occurred over the dirt track. The filly has won a just one race in her career, but has placed three times. Her most recent start came last November in Argentina during the seven furlong listed Bluegrass Sol Memorial where the bay filly broke out of the gate in fourth just behind the pacesetters, but at the turn the filly didn’t fire, eventually crossing the wire in fifth with a speed figure recorded of seventy-four. The fillies most recent win came last May during the Crracers Special Restricted maiden special weight race over six furlongs. Here the filly was held back in the rear of the field in eighth. She was urged ahead in the turn and went on to win the sprint by a length
In the second post is Sensible (Johannesburg x Buckaroo x Halo), who is owned by pleasanttap, owner of Timjbehr Stables. This three year old bay filly has had a total of eight starts throughout her career thus far in her lifetime. An impressive seven of these starts have ended in wins for the spectacular filly. Her won loss resulted in s second place finish. Her most recent start came last month in Maryland during the mile long W. Affair (IRE) Challenge where the filly broke out of the gate and settled behind in second just off the pacesetter in the race. At the turn the bay filly made her move on the leader and rocketed ahead, sprinting away towards the wire to win by an impressive three lengths. The fillies most recent graded stakes start came in August during the Dazzling Daisies Stakes (G2) in California last year where the filly finished second, just one and one-fourth lengths back behind the eventual winner.
Next will be Graupoint (Point Given x Storm Cat x Vice Regent), who is out of the multiple Grade 1 winning champion dam, Grausturm, and is trained by xanderman, who is owner of Jrogue Stables. This bay filly has a total of seven lifetime starts throughout her career. Of her seven lifetime starts the filly has won once in her career. She has also finished in second once and came in the for the show once. Her most recent start came last month here in Florida during the eight and a half furlong Sunny Florida (G1) where the filly broke out of the start gate in mid pack and was held back in eighth. In the stretch she began to sneak up on other horses on the outside. The move was too little too late however and the bay filly crossed the wire in seventh with a speed figure of ninety-three. The fillies only win came in her maiden debut race, this on a sloppy dirt track in Arkansas where the filly was held back in mid pack in seventh but was urged forward sooner and challenged other horses immediately out of the gate. The filly won going away by a length and a half.
Drawing the fourth slot, and far outside post is 4/1 shot Enforcer (Exchange Rate x Pulpit x Private Account), who is owned by mcsheen, owner of Vansheen Stables. This bay Florida-bred filly has been very lightly raced thus far in her short racing career with only two lifetime starts. Both of the fillies starts, which came on the dirt, have resulted in victories leaving the filly with a perfect race record. Her debut race came last December in the mile long Christmas Slipper Fillies Prelude Restricted in Kentucky where the juvenile filly broke out of the gate with a three-fourths length lead. By the turn the filly had increased her lead to four and a half lengths. She lost some ground in the stretch to late closers but managed to hold on to the win by a length. Her next, and only other start, also came in Kentucky, this in an allowance caliber start, The Christmas Slipper Restricted where the filly again won after going wire to wire and set a lifetime best speed figure of ninety. Interestingly, this will be the fillies first stakes start, her first start outside Kentucky and her first start in a non-restricted race.
