The Global Runners residency is holding its first multi-race event this week in Puerto Rico. The Global Runners residency (which can be found at this website: http://www.freewebs.com/callowaykid42/index.htm ) is run by callowaykid and is just starting to make its mark on the sim community. As a small residency, the group finishes each week around the 18 mark in breeding points earned, but still it pushes on. The small group of trainers, which includes a couple of the better trainers in the sim look at this event as the official “We are here to stay!” marker for the residency.
The day is composed of 5 races, all of which were purchased by its generous residents, including race 16 in Puerto Rico which is the first Global Runners Derby. Let’s take a look at the field of nine.
1. Lightng Jodie (AUS) : Is a 3 year old mare out of CARNEGIE(IRE) and has the rail for the race. To this point Lightng Jodie has been running exclusively in turf routes. Lately she has taken to the marathon events, and has done admirably doing so. This will be her first race on dirt and at a distance shorter than she is used to. She has 1 win in 10 tries, but has been in the money 6 times. M. Solt gets the mount for millview2 (of Deep Rock Stables) and has been running at a 6.8% clip this season.
2. DEPOSED(KY): This the controversial mare out of Medaglia D’Oro. Taffysfill is an unassociated stable who runs under the same colors (according to coker silks) as Stoddard Stables. This stable is an unknown to the residents of Global Runners, and seems to have started to support the residency for the sole reason to run in this event. We are skeptical asto whether it will continue to support the residency. Deposed was purchased by taffysfill for $250,000 in week 3413. She has 1 win in 8 races and has been in the money 3 times. 7 of the 8 races have come on the turf, and the sole dirt run was a 6th place finish over 6.5 furlongs. R. Shortridge gets the mount, and has been running at a 10.1% winning percentage this season.
3. TAKE COMMAND(CA): This 3 year old colt out of Deputy Commander makes his second career start in the Derby. His depute came at this distance in Tennessee in 3413, which was an impressive 83 SP posting –though it was only good enough for 4th place. The Blueblood stable is a connection of Magichorse stables, also known to us as bluehorse1. J. Hughes gets the mount and has been running at an impressive 13.9% wp this year.
4. MASTER CLUEING(KY): This is the second entry from the Deep Rock group. She is a 3 year old mare out of Blazonry. She has 2 wins in 21 tries, plus 4 places during that time. 19 of the 21 races thus far have been sprints, and the two routes have not been impressive. She has never run at this distance though. K. Atwood received the assignment as he tries to build on his 12.1% wp.
5. SPIRIT’S ESSENCE(FL): This three year old colt is out of Essence of Dubai. Spirit’s Essence makes his home on Sunset Ranch, the base of operations for the residency’s fearless leader callowaykid. The stable section6 is a new stable looking for its first win. The colt has 2 wins in 15 tries, both in dirt sprints. One of his victories was on an off track which will help in today’s good dirt. The colt’s lone route try was a 3rd place finish in a 4 horse field. C. Moore, of the 6.0% wp, has been hired for the ride.
6. WHY CRY NOW(FL): Nyavenger, of Tabascocat Stables which is part of the Chuckrock Conglomerate sends this 3 year old mare to the Derby. The mare is Milwaukee Brew X Tabasco Cat, which indicates she should like sprints better than today’s 8 furlongs. She has raced 19 times thus far, winning twice. Both victories have been in turf sprints. She has tried routes 4 times, only placing once in those 4 tries. C. Donofrio, who owns Chuckrock Conglomerate Stables has agreed to ride his own horse. This season 2 jockey has an 11% winning percentage this year.
7. S R UP SIDE DOWN(TUR): Randy4 of Randy619 stables, sends this3 year old colt out of Marlin. As one of the few horses in this field with stakes credentials, he comes in as the second favorite according to the morning line of 9/2. He has 3 wins in 9 races, all of which were at this distance on dirt. The horse was claimed for 4k by Randy and has already paid dividends. The track’s best jockey; perhaps the sim’s best jockey J. Drozd with his 31.5% wp has taken the assignment.
8. SMART KITTEN(TUR): Smart Kitten is a 3 year old mare out of Mountain Cat who has yet to run for trainer ellarev, a stable who runs under the Seamhead Stables banner. She has 2 wins and 8 times in the money for her previous owner(s) in 15 races. Her lone try at this distance was an 8th place finish when she was 2. Rookie jockey M Shockey-Lopez and her 14.4% winning percentage will ride.
9. WICKED CAT TALES(KY): Hailing from Stoners barn, this colt is the prohibitive 2/5 favorite and deservingly so. The 3 year old colt out of Tale of the Cat has 4 wins in 11 tries. He has run in graded company as recently as his 10th place finish in the Louisiana Derby. While that particular effort was not what stoners wanted, it seems that the 10 furlong distance was too long for him. Wicked seems to like 8.5/9 furlongs, and will has posted speeds as high as 110 during such races. D. Johnson and his 14.4% WP gets the mount.
Good luck to all the trainers and may all the horse come back healthy (especially stoners’ horse).
