1 101348 SIN BIN  super25  R Michaels  14/1

This daughter of Kingmambo has been inconsistent, bouncing up to triple digits and as low as 85 in her last race.  This is the right distance, however, and she has the tactical speed to be placed where her jockey likes.  The sloppy conditions may help her, as she has won her only two starts on off tracks.

2 91025 AUDACITY(IRE)  brenbren  S Steff  9/1

The 5-year-old El Prado roan returns to this race following a third in the 2006 edition.  She had her streak of six straight exacta finishes snapped two back in North Carolina, but jumped back on the board last out with a second in an Ontario allowance.  You get the feeling she would relish an extra furlong, but she has wins at ten furlongs and is a force here.

3 60629 OPENINO  deuces  P Davis  9/1

The Red Bullet product is barely visible on the Jumbotron early, but sometimes gets her picture taken at the end.  She’s been known to make up ten lengths in the stretch, so watch for a thrilling finish.  She hasn’t fired when meeting faster foes, so a dud could be in order against this tough group.  A win would put her winnings over the half million mark.

4 54092 GRAUMINISTER  jrogue4  B Dirks  7/1

The grand old 7-year-old mare has been rejuvenated this fall: she hasn’t run this fast since early 2004!  The daughter of Deputy Minister moved back into the stakes ranks after a nice run in an allowance back in September, and her speed is undiminished after the 48 races and 17 wins.  Dirks has had a decent year and will try to fend them off from the front end.

5 10019 CONGRESSIONAL  dawgpound  R Haffner  6/1

One of three stakes winners produced by mom CON UNIT, this 6-year-old has also returned to her best form.  She won three graded stakes from November 2004 to July 2005, all at classic distances, but then settled down as a good allowance/listed stakes runner.  Dawgpound must have found the potion for the daughter of top sire Storm Cat, as she’s been stalking and running mid-triple digits like days of old.

6 57514 DIMOUTLOOK  leelee  S Klein  7/1

This 4-year-old filly steps up in class and distance, showing some sharp scores at a mile in her last few races.  Sire Lemon Drop Kid should provide enough pedigree power for the extra furlongs, but her low percentage jock will have to keep her close and urge her to repeat her big recent winning speeds.

7 95614 OTTO UGLY  pick4  A Roberts  27/1

A 5-year-old Mineshaft product, this mare has been performing creditably in marathon stakes.  She showed speed, if you can call it that at those distances, so she could surprise on the cutback, but her only stakes victory is at two full miles.  She looks a step slower than these and will have to contend with a likely decent pace as well.

8 30886 BAD BLACKBERRY(IRE)  shredder  N Painter  15/1

By contrast, this one seemed not to relish the two miles she contested last out in the The OUT BETWEEN PHOTO Bonanza in Eastern Kentucky.  The Barathea mare started her career late last year as an older 4-year-old, but has had a busy 2007.  Looking back at her form, she had some nice runs at ten furlongs as well as a place finish in a Grade 2 at a mile and a half.  She has an upset chance if N Painter can find the right running style for this bunch.

9 130555 MY COVER STORY  murray2  N Lawton  6/1

Another Mineshaft, this one a 4-year-old, she has tailed off since putting together a strong mid-year series of races culminating in a win in the Grade 3 County BB Handicap in Arizona.  She was nowhere in the Grade 2 Jump Town Handicap last out.  The switch to top jock Lawton and an off track may work to her benefit.

10 131557 PYE ARE SQUARED(AUS)  jeffdrew  R Bullock  7/1

Switched to dirt in June, she has come on strong, including a sterling victory in the Jump Town in Kentucky last out.  The Viscount 4-year-old likes to be with the leaders, and a repeat of the 109 she ran last time would probably get her the win here.  She has been known to give up leads of 7 to 10 lengths down the stretch, so her backers should watch out for a deep closer such as OPENINO.

11 87255 SALLY HEMINGS  queer  Ax Williams  13/1

Sent overseas in August, she did not quite recapture her form from her winter in the desert.  Criss-crossing the oceans, she picked up allowance wins on a few continents, but returned stateside with an uninspiring third in an eleven-furlong stakes in California last out.  The Colonial Affair 4-year-old is the only winner out of her Taiki Shuttle mare.  She may be better a furlong or two shorter and is not a strong-looking longshot.

12 123026 RED RIVER CROSSING(KY)  icechaser  B Child  9/1

The 3-year-olds are all stuck on the outside like they were also-eligibles or something.  No matter, this Rahy filly sports the fastest last-race speed, 111, which may be the fastest any of them have run.  She has won eight of nine, failing only in the Around the World Stakes in Arkansas three back, where she faded to third.  In fact, she hasn’t been out of the trifecta since switched to dirt in November 2006, a span of fourteen races.  She is fast enough, but she wins only on the front end.  There is enough other speed in here that she could find herself second or third, and she just doesn’t pass horses.  Interesting gut play.

13 54019 IRON BEAUTY(KY)  ironracing  S Israel  18/1

Here’s a Mr. Greeley that has stretched out nicely.  She ventures out of Puerto Rico for the first time in her career, where she was a speed demon to be feared.  Moving up to graded company in Nuevo York will be tough, but at least she answered the distance question with a handy front-running score at thirteen furlongs last out.  She’s probably up against it with the pace scenario, but you have to root for a horse who stays put at one racetrack as long as this one has in this game.

14 96110 ICECOLDBEERHERE(IRE)  sal4792  A Manning  31/1

This nice Street Cry filly seems to have been a spectacular claim by sal4792.  Former owner super2 had her running in mostly sprints, but dropped her to a $50k claimer in June.  Her new owner promply moved her to classic dirt routes, where she popped an allowance win and two nice stakes runs.  She can track the leaders and looks like a horse still on the improve, but a wide post and a lack of seasoning are serious questions.
