Grade 3 Phenom

This weeks card in Connecticut(76)features some very promising juveniles led by the Breeders Bowl dirt juvenile winner Fleet Daisy, Son of sophmore sire Afleet Alex out of multiple graded stakes winner Rhino Daisy. Fleet Daisy has already surpassed his mother in earnings and now will take dead aim on his sires earnings table. Fleet Daisy also has a multiple stakes winning half-sister (Dragon Daisy)sired by Awesome Again.

Fleet Daisy’s connections have selected to try the turf again which he has won although only at the allowance level. His connections felt he handled the turf rather well the first go around and were looking to see how he would handle it against graded competition. They also thought it might help him get a few more votes from the turf crowd when the ballots are drawn for Juvenile horse of the year votes. This will be his eighth start and seems to be improving as he matures.

Here are the other contenders in post position order

1. Tarot super16 v gamble 13/1

This son of Seeking The Gold is stepping way up in class after breaking his maiden in his fifth start. Broke his maiden at the furlong distance after his fifth start. Look for improvement but maybe not as much as he needs.

2. Another Dud (ENG) jkj4 G Rangaskiddy 8/1

This son of Shirocco(Ger)came out the box running scoring his maiden victory at first asking. This scratch bred is a hard knocker battling in sprints at the stakes level. The step up in distance and class may be a little to much to ask but not totally out of the question. His breeding of Breeders Cup Miler Shirocco and a Secretariat mare say he’ll handle the added distance.

3. Gift Certificate (FL) vermacht R Lamond 13/1

This very speedy son of Montbrook will try to carry his speed the 9 panels for the first time after showing nice ability in overnight stakes races before being stepped up into a grade 1 meltdown. Still think 9F is to much for this guy but he may show a little middle move to unravel those that can’t relax up front.

4. Black Pudding (KY)nane M Homes 25/1

This son of El Prado has flashed some ability in overnighters but todays competition will be a huge step up. If he is to compete I look for jockey M Homes to take him way back and look for the front to fall apart. He will need a torrid pace for him to get a placing.

5. Smack The Groom (IRE) legionlurk M Barnes 5/1

This undefeated son of Sadler’s Wells will probably be the horse if anyone is going to upset the BB champ. This guy has improved with each run and the distance addition will move him up anther notch. The connections of Fleet Daisy will surely be keeping an eye on this guy.

6. Scientific Proof (IRE) brightvalr J Igram 6/1

This wonderful son of Galileo will come in with the most experience against graded competition on the grass surface.
Just missing a placing in the gr1 High Flyer two back puts him right in the thick of it.

7. Jagged Pill (ENG) catomine L Hechicera 12/1

This son of Medicean (GB) out of the graded stakes winning mare Queen Deputy really impressed in his last out tracking in the back of the pack before exploding for a two length win at one mile. The added distance won’t hurt but there may be a couple in here with a little more seasoning. Still I’m looking for another step up and even maybe a placing on the board.

8. Back Again (ENG) madmanlopo D Singhi 8/1

Coming in off two wins this son of Medicean has improved with every out. Some will say he’s been beating up on restricted foes but two back it was against open and his last in the Gr simsters juvy he really flashed a foot on the wet lawn. If your looking for a price then look no farther.

9. Forever Sinnful (FR) uask4it S Dabney 13/1

This lightly race son of Sinndar(IRE) seems to be jumping in with both feet after only two starts. His last race he looked rather sluggish after a good maiden score. Not totally out of the question since he looked so good in that maiden score.

10. Cammander Byrd(AUS) checkraise F Mulder 44/1

Claimer that has improved with distance but in way to deep with these headhunters. I would be looking for another claiming race if there is anything left of him after this race.

11. Jack Burton (FR) jedi J Hornibrook 12/1

Yet to really flash the ability that will be needed to score in a race of this magnitude he has been improving with the added distance. Look for more improvement and then maybe a smaller stake score in his next outting.

12. Fleet Daisy (KY) *See Above*

13. Lion Stormcat (LA) graywolf13 A Cutry 19/1

Seems to be alw type who is in way over his head. Has a 2nd against stakes competition but that was in the spring and sprinting on the dirt. Nice animal but not this type.

14. Spending Bill (KY) tnilsson F Lakencher 12/1

This lightly raced son of Mineshaft could be any kind.
The son of multiple grade 1 winning sim mare Estrogen who banked well over 2 million in purses. She was at her best at 10F on the turf but she could run on any suface. Estrogen’s son has improved each out and I’m looking for a big performance at a square price.

My pick’s

1. Smack The Groom (IRE)
2. Scientific Proof (IRE)
3. Fleet Daisy (KY)
