Welcome to Japan for todays feature on Breeders Bowl day. A full filed of 14 for this Grade II contest but only a handful have a chance according to the morning line. Lets take a look at the runners-
CAUGHT N THE STORM (STORM CAT x MR. PROSPECTOR x ELA-MANA-MOU(IRE)) |
You’ve got to love that pedigree and he’s won 10 of his 25 races, however all recent wins have been in allowances and he’s struggled when put in stakes races. No graded experience and may be looking for a return to dirt based on that race five runs back over a trip that was probably too short. Will be near the front early but won’t get home.
JACOBITE THEA(IRE) (BARATHEA(IRE) x STORM CAT x RAHY) |
Lightly raced three year old who stepped up on his other runs with a 102 in a Grade I latest. Loads of improvement left and could run into the top five at best but not yet good enough for this. Out of a Grade A mare so could be one to keep an eye on.
SHOULDN’T MATTER(IRE) (NORTH LIGHT (IRE) x KINGMAMBO x AFFIRMED) |
Another three year old who’s improved in his last four runs without actually winning. Plenty of stamina in his pedigree and itnow looks as though he wants at least 10f. Gets behind early to come with a late charge but I suspect that over this trip the leaders will have finished before he really gets going.
BARB’S CLASS (RED RANSOM x SADLER’S WELLS x DACTYLOGRAPHER) |
Another with some solid allowance form, including two recent sp’s over the 100 mark but who’s struggled when tried in stakes races- n fact his sp’s have dropped almost 15 points. On tha basis alone I can’t see even a top five today and expect him to struggle again.
ZANZABAR(IRE) (GALILEO (IRE) x BLUSHING GROOM(FR) x NUREYEV) |
Six wins from his last eight races with sp’s of 110,106,112,118,108, and 103 syas it all really. Especially as they have all come at this trip. Won a grade II latest, likes to sit just of the front and I expect to see him power past the the field in the final furlong. The winner for me.
STEADY EMPLOYMENT (SYMBOLI KRIS S x CARO(IRE) x VAGUELY NOBLE) |
Good improvement over his last four runs with two stakes wins and four sp’s over the 100 mark. Seems at his best when leading and looks to have a decent chance to hold on for a top three spot today- if he’s sent out in front. If he gets behind early he could struggle.
A.P. JACK CB (A.P. INDY x AFFIRMED x REALLY AWESOME) |
Plenty of graded experience here but he seems to produce a couple of good runs then a couple of ordinary ones. On a good day a typical 104 sp could see him reach the top five, a bad day with a 96 could see him nearer the tail of the field. Hard to predict.
BOWEL MOVEMENT(ENG) (RAINBOW QUEST x VICE REGENT x HIS MAJESTY) |
Has won five of his last seven ranging from claimers to stakes races but has only broken the 100 sp mark twice and has no graded experience. Look for him to run a 100 sp but that will only get about a midfield place today. Would be better placed back in stakes company.
SEND ME A SIGNAL(GER) (SUMITAS (GER) x DANEHILL x RIBOT) |
Another three year old who’s won six races already, including two stakes races but he’s also finished eigth and tenth when tried in graded company. He was over seven lengths in front at the three quarter pole when recording that 110 sp over a mile so he may need a drop back in trip. Could sneak a top five if he ca hold on up front.
SIN DANCE(IRE) (SINNDAR (IRE) x NASHWAN x SHAREEF DANCER) |
Very lightly raced for a five year old and seems to still be improving. His last two runs were good ad he handled the step up to stakes level easily. That last 109 sp rates him as one of the main dangers to ZANZABAR and he should reach the top three.
DIXIE’S PAPPILLA(KY) (DIXIELAND BAND x A.P. INDY x ROUND TABLE) |
A three year old with eight wins and a Grade II among them plus that last sp of 117. However that was on yielding ground and cannot be taken at face value. Still his previous 110 to win a grade II still puts him right up there with ZANZABAR and he must be the main threat. His only problem though is that there are four front runners in this field, and at least two have more speed than him. How will he handle it if he can’t lead?
JOSHEBA (ALYSHEBA x SAINT BALLADO x SECRETARIAT) |
Loads of graded experience but is another who looks to be looking for a step back in trip to 6-7f. Doesn’t quite get home over the mile despite some good sp’s and doesn’t run well when he doesn’t lead- and he may struggle to do that today. A midfield finish I think since he won’t get the lead.
LONGSHOT BUBA (CEE’S TIZZY x MANILA x RELAUNCH) |
Has won some big money but hasn’t run that well for some time now and only just held on over this trip in an allowance latest. Will not see out this trip in a Graded race and for that reason alone he will struggle. Will be nearer last than first.
THEATROMANIA (GREEN DESERT x THEATRICAL(IRE) x MR. PROSPECTOR) |
A good third with a 107 sp in the World Cupin his first graded attempt was a pretty good run. Another 107 would get him a top five here but you have to be worried about the bounce factor. Still he only has 15 runs underhis belt so ifhe runs his race expect a top five.
OVERALL
ZNAZABAR to win but only just from DIXIE’S PAPILLA
