WORLD CUP Juvenile Colt Turf Mile

The World Cup Juvenile Colt Turf Mile
Grade 1 Stakes
A mile on Firm Turf
$500,000
Two Year Old Colts

How exciting is this?!? We are at the inaugural Sim World Cup and are lucky enough to be here in the beautiful Pastures of Green in Vermont as well. This is a fairly even field and extremely unpredictable as well. There are first timers at a mile and at Graded company and you never know for sure how these youngsters will respond to the big crowd. I am so ready to watch this race and who knows if the winner may not only be in the running for a Breeders Bowl crown but for some of next years big three year old races as well. There are some really beautiful and talented colts here so let’s take a look:

Here are how the teams are set up:

    North America/South America

  • 2 – PALAZZO
  • 3 – PRAY FOR RAIN RYRY
  • 6 – DARK PASSAGE
  • 10 – MANATEE BAD BOY
    Europe/Scandinavia

  • 4 – MORUBAZOL
  • 8 – REACH THE PEAK
  • 9 – PROSPETARIA
  • 11 – WASHINSKY
    Australia/New Zealand/Far East

  • 1 – BUCK’S PARTY
  • 5 – HANNAH’S HORIZON
  • 7 – SILENT AJDAL
  • 12 – WANKA BAR

This Down Under entry would be only the second Graded winner by sire MOTIVATOR if he was able to pull this race off. He has never finished out of the money in his four race career for the Champion Lodge Stables. Trainer Deyoto glowingly spoke of his horse this way, “He is a speed machine that can sustain speed over a mile, he will take a lot of catching on the weekend, and whoever catches him wins the race. I seriously doubt that anything will get near him “. This colt loves the front and has been there in every race to date. His Graded loss was by a nose in the to DARK PASSAGE, also entered in this race. He would like to see the results reversed this time. The inside post should help with his front running style and he has Evans in the saddle with his magic hands. Should be in the mix if the early speed doesn’t take it’s toll.

An English bred horse racing for the Americas, this chestnut colt is trying to become the first Graded winner for Sire MEDICEAN. This will be only his third turn on the grass but also his third race at a mile. He just missed his first Stakes win last time out when he was nipped at the wire in Ohio. Trainer LastHope1 has been drawing on all of the experience of the well known Dixiedotco Racing Stables and it has shown in the improvement of this colt. Their take on the horse, “He’s very lightly raced, and taking a big step up in class. However, he seems to be very proficient at the one mile distance on turf. With him being so lightly raced, I believe he has lots of room for improvement. He is well-rested and sharp, and should put up a good effort on Saturday.” He seems to like running near the front which may not play to his favor with what seems to be plenty of early speed in this race. As the second hole, jockey Gravina will probably try to tuck him in behind BUCK’S PARTY and wait for his shot.

After starting his career on the clay, trainer RYRY moved him to the grass with outstanding results. Running under the Cothill Stables colors for the Americas, this is a colt that could surely surprise. This is the Stables first time in a really big Sim-wide race and he is understandably excited. The colt is undefeated on the turf with two easy wins including the DEVILS DYNAMITE Stakes last time out. A mid pack closer, he may be in the best place in this race as the front may set a frenetic pace and the rear may be too far back. With that in mind, the number three post may be perfect for him and jockey Duffy who is in the irons and on his game.

This chestnut colt running for the Europeans has yet to win his first Stakes race but he has shown tremendous improvement every time out for trainer Ceclaim7 under the auspices of the Royal Belgian Kempen Farms conglomerate and their 31 stables. This will be his third race at a mile which may be a big help against others that have much less experience. He runs just off the leaders but hasn’t found that big gear to turn to at the end. His 85 plus SPF last time out though equates to a contender here and a little bump in that may be enough to get him into the mix. His big outing last time and having Givens in the leather may be the bump he needs.

This will be the first mile on this chestnut colt’s resume but he sure has flown the colors of the Rharfo Stables well with three wins including a Graded win at 7f last time out over a couple of the horses in this race His other Graded outing he was nipped by a nose.. Rharfo has set his colt up well stretching him out nicely every time out. This is just the next progressive step. Another front runner so the front should be interesting early in this race and see if they can hang against the challengers. He could be the Down Under team’s best chance. He is the Morning Line favorite and with good reason. I’m sure that the trainer likes the draw and Schardein holding the reins is sure no slouch. Could be a win for the Aussies.

You’ve got to look for an entry from the Super Stables and not wanting to disappoint, they send this young turf monster. He has never finished worst than second in five outings and has a Graded win. He was beat out at 7.5 furlongs last time out and will stretch out to this distance for the first time. A deep closer who usually brings up the rear along the back stretch, he will have to run past lots of good horses to get to the front here. I saw his last race and feel he has that ability although I wonder about the extra distance. His Mom was a great sprinter and he may be too. He will have to be at his best to keep that top two record alive and score for the Americas. Scott is up and has been having another stellar season even after 12 years experience.

A late entry for the Down Under team to take the place of DANISHA who was pulled, this colt is full of interesting stories in that he appears to have been purchased at auction after his second race and now is in the World Cup! Trainer Paceman2 saw something in this big guy and now he rides under the colors of the Theatrical Stables. He actually seems to prefer this distance as he dropped back a bit last time out when he ran at 7f. He has the speed but not the experience of some of these runners making him an unpredictable and dangerous horse for the field. Parker in the irons may be able to provide the experience with his 12 years and he is having one of his best seasons ever. An interesting choice on your Tri Card.

It took four races for this colt to win his maiden but he did it in fine style last time out with an 82 SPF at 7 ½ furlongs. Trainer RacinPogs2 under the Pogo Racing empire has to have a pretty good feeling about this colt. He has lots of excuses for waiting so long for that first win, with changes in surface, distance and even an off track. The hopes of the Euro/Scandinavian team have to be buoyed by his last race where he made a hard charge down the stretch to win. The extra half furlong may be just what the doctor ordered and this nicely bred colt could surprise a lot of folks. Su is holding the reins and has been a bit off this year but still seems to come through in the big races.

I love the name of this colt. The name comes from a missed credit breeding at the bell and a huge misspent credit amount! If this race was either for best pedigree or best in the mud, we may see the winner with this European hopeful. Immaculately bred, trainer Xssessiv has seen this colt win his only Stakes race on a yielding track. This will be his first turn at a mile and his stable mates at the B4rca Stables are hoping this will be to his benefit. I have a feeling that a year or two from now, this horse may really reach his potential but I wonder if he is quite ready for this crowd. He could certainly surprise though. One thing he has going for him comes from the trainer, “He has never been sharp in all previous runs, He’s sharp this time! I am very hopeful the 8f is just right for fifth outing.” DeSitter is the Da Sitter in Da Saddle and he knows how to bring ‘dem home!

It’s hard to think of the gentle giant Manatees as a Bad Boy but this colt does seem to have a surly side to him. It has turned into five races with no less than a second place finish for this Ameracan Teams hope. Trainer BRStable who runs his barn as an independent, a rarity in these days of conglomerate stables, has seen his colt improve every time out topped off with a Stakes win last time out. This will be his first try at a mile but he ran easily at seven and a half last time out. He is another front runner in a field full of them and that may not play in his favor. I know that trainer BRStable cringed when he drew this outside post with his frontrunner but Haack is great at threading them down to the pole and his magic may help here.

Here we have a big colt for the Europeans out of the Zeco Stables Belgium. Trainer LoisBlack has got to be tickled with what this colt has done in only four races. His SPFs have increased an average of five points every time out and he has three wins including two Graded Stakes. He’s run the fastest in this field and has a top three ranking. What’s not to like. His stalking style will set up well in this race and may be just the ticket. He is the only offspring out of broodmare LOWLANDS LANE who had a largely undistinguished career but sure is starting off her breeding with a huge success. The post may be perfect and they’ve drawn the best jockey in the business in P.Harzheim. I’m a little surprised that the ML didn’t pick this team as the favorite. I think that I might just do that.

One thing you can say for this colt carrying the Down Under Team’s colors. He comes into this race undefeated and no one else can say that. Of course, he has run only one race for trainer Magoo2912 and the Magoo Lodge Stables. But he won that one with a furious drive down the stretch. The 68 SPF and 7F distance may not be too intimidating but truth be known, no one knows just what this colt can do yet. He is up against a tough challenge here but trainer Magoo2912 says, “WANKA BAR is set to pull past them all down the stretch!” In his one previous race, he started on the outside so that may be to his advantage. He has Tate in the irons and he has been a hot jockey this year. Who knows what could happen in a race like this?!?

Morning Line =5-1-9-11
Paz Picks = 11-5-1-4

The thing that can really determine the outcome of this race is what happens at the beginning. There is a lot of early speed as it sets up with BUCK’S PARTY probably going to go to the front. He will be joined by a few other speed horses and that battle can play out to affect the entire race. If they can keep it fairly slow they may have enough to hold off all of the deep closers. If they fight it out amongst themselves, it is anyone’s race at the end. The way I see it, I have MORUBAZOL a 10/1 shot finishing fourth. I would actually like to pick HANNAH’S HORIZON to win but without ever having seen a mile, I can’t pull the trigger. If BUCK’S PARTY can keep it slow, he may win the race but I think that in the end it will be WASHINSKY holding back a bit then passing tired horses in the stretch to win the race for the European team. The Euros like to think of the mile turf races as belonging to them anyway!

Good luck to all runners!
