King Puppet
Boys and girls are all over this QLD track today with the weather as it is now nice and sunny but not too hot. I tell you winters in QLD are just perfect. Not that its winter anymore of course… Just for a change we have the 3yo+ girls today after a run of 2yo’s in our Stakes race event. They are: Favourite of the race drawn barrier 1 is Barb’s Spooky, a 5yo mare out of the mighty Kingmambo, earnings in excess of $850,000 and owned by lukebarn. So folks, we are in the company of Class here with a capital “C”. Today’s race is over 7 1/2 furlongs and going off her latest few runs this distance should be perfect for this mare I reckon. Having run at just about every class there is including a recent 2nd place finish in a G2 Stakes, she certainly looks almost unbeatable. I say almost because a couple of her recent runs she hasnt looked totally in form. So we will have to wait and see. Certainly top 3 finish you would have to think at worst… Post 2: 10/1 HAMMERJACK(KY) (1i3) This one has some big names in her breeding (Gone West x Northern Dancer x Post 3: 3/1 NIGHT TEDDY (shorblue6) This is a 5yo mare that has been around the traps for a while. She’s had 49 outings for 7 wins so she has definitely been racing a bit. Whats interesting is that she has come into some very good form of late, career best form actually. No change of trainer – she may well just be a late maturer or the trainer has found some new method of getting some speed up which I hope is not illegal as you could be banned for life and that would be bad and stuff (assuming you got caught)… Anyways I digress… She likes to come from the rear of the field so this should be a good distance for her judging on her last few runs. Big chance here I think – in fact I’m prepared to back her – illegal methods or not. Not that the trainer is of course… Post 4: 3/1 HOLLOWHAWK(GB) (reminder) Another of the favourites among the bookies and I would say most probably because of her last run with a speed rating of 106 over 7 furlongs. 4yo, 25 runs for 6 wins so certainly with a chance here. If she produces another run like last time out she will win pretty easily you would have to think. Question is can she? Im not so sure about that and last time out may have just been a hollow run. Post 5: 20/1 SNOW POLINA (henryseego) Ok long shot of the race here is Snow Polina trained by henryseego. Now its no good me saying how superb this horse is and how easily its going to win as it is the longshot for a reason. However you should always consider the longshot of the race because sometimes they get up either because they have a fantastic run or a different jockey, new trainer methods (dodgy as well as non-dodgy) and if they do get up you get very good money as a punter. Now this 5yo girl has run 46 races for 6 wins so she has been around a bit. Last time out was a relatively good speed and a few races before that she was running in the 90’s. So she is probably worth putting a few bucks on her. Because she DEFINITELY has a chance at top 3 finish if she runs the race of her life. And that race could well be today. Post 6: 11/1 SAHKEE SPIN (goody2) Out of Sakhee (surprise surprise) this 4yo mare rated at 11/1 odds has been running speeds averaging in the higher 80’s and low 90’s of late. Has been a bit up and down in her form resulting in results sort of spread across the board from a win to nowhere the next time out. Needs a good consistent run to take these on though but will have to wait and see whether she can spin away from the field in front or whether the field will shake her out the back. Post 7: 12/1 7yo mare – certainly the old girl of the race. New trainer in taker has only raced her the once since he got her and almost her career best speed (96) with a speed rating of 95 over 7 furlongs on the turf right here on the Post 8: 9/2 WARHEADS (sdmf5) Cool name Warheads for this 4yo mare and going off her last run she has absolutely no chance in this today. Luckily we will ignore her last run as that was on a yielding track over 10 furlongs in a G1 stakes race. Her prior run was a second place finish in the Rum Glen Special Stakes over 7.5 furlongs finishing with a fast speed rating of 103. Definite chance here today and well worth looking at if not just for her outstanding looks. My picks for this race are: NIGHT TEDDY BARB’S SPOOKY WARHEADS with a place bet on SNOW POLINA. Now a few of you have written in to my mailbag complaining that I have been putting up picks for betting on each week then not even backing what I have said. And you have been right – I haven’t been. So from now on I will be putting my bets on for real thanks to all the people who bothered to write in and complain. I really appreciate that. Seriously 🙂
