The EXBOURNE’S SHARK Challenge
A mile and one eight
Fast Dirt
$70,000
Fillies and mares, 3 years old

Todays stakes event at sunny Rhode Island is for the youngsters, with 6 fillies out to get some black type against their name and thus earning broodmarepotential. We are out here with a very equal field according to the bookies so it is difficult to pick a winner.

PP         Age            Name                            Trainer              Odds            Pedigree

1          3F            SPIRIT OF INDY                guyinchlt4         4/1            AP Indy x Unbridled x Halo

Record: 11 races: 4-3-1

This AP Indy filly has been trained very well in the EII 1919 Racing Stables. She won her maiden early this year at 8.5f dirt in a very good 92 Speed and has been entered according her conditions in Allowances of which she now won three. She is a frontrunner who still has not been able to post a speed in the upper nineties but it really is time for her now to make a stepup in Stakesraces. Will be ridden by superjockey Scott (30.4%)

2          3F            PRIMEVAL LIGHT               steller2              5/1            Rahy x Seattle Slew x Bold Ruler

Record: 8 races: 4-2-1

Another frontrunner which is pretty similar to the horse at post 1. Won her maiden in March in a decent 83SP and since then was also entered in allowances according to her conditions of which she also won 3. So rightfully it is time to step up in class which she is doing today. It is already clear she can even run 10f , so the distance won’t be the problem today as she has plenty in her tank.

3          3F            CHOCAHOLIC                    beefcake6         9/2            Medaglia d’oro x Nijinsky II x Gone West

Record: 13 races: 4-4-1

A lot of early speed in this race as this filly from trainer Beefcake is also a frontrunner. She started on turf however and was switched to dirt with success. She won three allowances in a row, one even in a 100SP and was then very optimistically entered in a G3 where she disappointed. She is well worth Stakeslevel so she should have less problems today to compete for the win. Looks like her trainer forgot to pick the jockey as she is mounted by Novak (only 4.6%)

4          3F            FELL OVERBOARD               strikerich          5/1            Swept Overboard x Gone West x Nureyev

Record: 8 races: 3-2-1

Early speed also for this filly out of a Gone West mare. After her maidenbreak earlier this year she recorded another two wins in allowances. For one reason or another her first try in a Stakes was on turf (I have no idea why) where she failed. She ran another Stakes on dirt last time and finished respectfully as third. The distance was shorter than today so I am not sure with all that speed in this race that she can hold it for 8.5 furlongs. I think she will fall overboard.

5          3F            TITANIA                              bagur                5/2            Kingmambo x Cat Thief x AP Indy

Record: 11 races: 3-2-2

First foal of G-grade mare Tito and immediately a good one. Like the filly in post 4 she also has Stakesexperience and managed to place twice. So she seems to be in form coming to this race after a very good 104SP in the Smackdown and another show in the GUILE Stakes (at 9.5 furlong). If she can find back her Smackdown legs she might be the one to beat today. Not so good Jockey Manson (6.2%) will be riding her.

6          3F            PREACH TO BAND                okdavid196       5/2            Pulpit x Dixieland Band x Exclusive Native

Record: 12 races: 4-1-1

Scratchbred filly out of Pulpit who lately is clearly progressing. Has won 2 allowances lately, both on the mile and with increasing speeds, even over 100SP. With all that early speed in this race she probably will be stalking and she seems to have an endshot for the stretch. The experience of Jockey Davis (12%) will – according to me – be leading this filly to the win today so she earns her broodmare potential
