Fillies and mares, 3 years old
Welcome to Ontario for the eight run of the Ontario BB Oaks which is run together with the Canada Mile. We are here for a race over 8.5f on dirt for fillies of 3 years old. If we look to the history of this race we see that the outside posts seem to have an advantage (the last three races were won by horses starting on the outside of the gate). The speed needed to win this race will have to be 1.42 or faster. We have about 5 real outsiders in this race which I will only touch briefly

3 3F BRADY WINS AGAIN spqr3rd 11/1 Tiznow x Forty Niner x Seattle Slew
Record: 8 races: 3-2-0
Very lightly raced filly out of the roman Spqr-empire is this filly out of mare SAPPHIRE SEA who has foaled two stakeswinners already. Her first five races where very good and we saw her improving and winning The WATER CAD Stakes earlier this year. But her last three races she has not been able to confirm that performance on Stakes Level. I don’t think today is the time and the place for her to already make a stepup in class as she first needs to confirm on Stakeslevel. V. Townsend (14.7%) will be mounting this filly and guide her.
4 3F KOKO TAYLOR banditkllr 9/5 High Yield x Capote x Forty Niner
Record: 21 races: 7-5-3
Here is a filly that has proved she can easily beat the 100Speedmark. She did it already five times and has done it four times in a row in her last four races. These were sprints and however she has been going +100 her results are deteriorating. I sense a bit of overracing here and she might be better off with a good rest: she ran 8 races as a 2y old and already 13 races in 8 months this year. I hope not but maybe it is becoming a bit too much for her and maybe her less performance last time was due to the fact that she is not yet quite ready to compete with older mares. She definitely won’t have that problem today and she might be the only one able to go over 100 today which could be sufficient for the win. Although she is a favourite according to the bookies, she has the disadvantage of unproven jockey Rhodes (9.3%). Did her trainer forget to selecht the jockey?
6 3F PRAVDA super10 5/1 Kingmambo x Pleasant Colony x Danzig
Record: 11 races: 4-1-3
Running for the Superstables is this filly out of the supersire Kingmambo. At this moment she is ranked as 9th in her division and the one with the most Stakespoints in this race. She already won a G1 earlier this year and that was exactly over this distance. Has been stretched in G1’s this year but this without success. Her last race is only 3 weeks ago where she failed to win in a restricted DelPenn Stakes. The only minor point I can think of is that she still has not progressed to posting +100 Speeds which I feel might be necessary today. I’m sure topjockey Linville (21.8%) will know how to do that.
7 3F BLUSH siligee 6/1 Arazi x Danehill x Unbridled
Record: 12 races: 2-5-1
This second foal out of mare UNDOUBLED DANE G just like her brother did manage to place her already in a Stakes. Gently trained by trainer siligee she has been tested mainly in sprintallowances of which she only won one. In her latest race she stepped up to Stakes and managed to finish on the board. She will face a serious test today as she needs to go one and a half furlong further as last time and we have no idea she will be able to. According to her bloodlines it should’nt be a problem and the bookies also think she might be a competitor for the top 3.
10 3F BARB’S SLOW COOKER radarmansn 5/1 Saarland x Gulch x Secretariat
Record: 16 races: 5-2-4
The Jakemattstables are represented by this Graded Winner out of sire Saarland. She has been running in Stakes and Graded Races already for some time and always manages to finish in the money, but her last win dates back from March where she won the WOLF OF QUEENSLAND Challenge. With jockey Renfroe (18.2%) on her back she should be safe and should be one to take into account today. Sidenote: if you look at this years’ races it might well be possible that this distance is not her best distance. She seems to like to be stretched further.
11 3F M. RUTHERFORD salsabil 6/1 Waquoit x Mr. Prospector x Nashua
Record: 15 races: 4-4-1
This deep closing filly from trainer Salsabil has from the start of her career shown on the dirt she is a decent allowancerunner. Her last races we see her improving and it is time to do a stepup in class. I don’t know whether she immediately can show what she is able in a Graded Race and it also could well be the distance is too short for her. She never has been tried further than 8.5f and seen her running style that might be something for the trainer to try after this race. If in this race she can make good some ground in the end she definitely has to be tested at least on 9f and maybe even further.
With much respect for the trainers we also have about five fillies who made the field today but who I do not take into account for this race since I think this graded race is not their cup of tea.
1 3F ROCK OF THE NIGHT cjt5 32/1 Fastnet Rock x Night Shift x With Approval
Record: 10 races: 2-1-2
Has tried Graded Level before on shorter distance and failed. Should prove first on allowancelevel that she can handle distance and the competition.
2 3F CLASSIC IGNITION biz 16/1 Indian Ridge x Chief’s Crown x Pampered King II
Record: 9 races: 2-3-3
Broker her maiden two races ago. Has been running on offtracks most of the time and should first start to show she is able to handle the distance on allowancelevel.
5 3F WHIPPER SILLY pugsley 22/1 Whipper x Miswaki x Affirmed
Record: 15 races: 3-3-3
Was switched to dirt last race in a cpu-restricted allowance which she won. Will probably make the pace in this race and might be overrun in the last part of the race.
8 3F LOCKET invisible 12/1 Eurosilver x Pulpit x Saint Ballado
Record: 12 races: 2-2-3
Consistent runner in allowances, but will have to face Stakeslevel first before trying Graded level. Might surprise though.
9 3F THE WALL OF SHAME rihanna 95/1 Silver Charm x Mr. Prospector x Sunday Silence
Record: 17 races: 2-1-3
