dunn preview – URC Up For Grabs Dirt (JOHGM #17)

Hello it’s DUNN and I am on location in New York for a very special episode of “JOCKEYS ON HORSES GETTING MILK”. I am here to preview the URC “UP FOR GRABS”, a race for two year olds that covers seven and a half furlongs on dirt with a purse of $75,000

We’ll do things a little different on this episode as we will meet the eighteen Jockeys that are featured in this race and let them tell us about the horse they are riding.

I’m DUNN and this is “JOCKEYS ON HORSES GETTING MILK”!

DUNN WALKS TO FIRST BARN TO MEET JOCKEY RICHARD HELLER

Dunn: Hey Richard! How’s it going? Who you riding today?

Richard: All is well Dunn. Today  I am working with the robd10 barn  and am riding ARROSEB. He is the son of ARROGATE and he comes in off his first win in two starts as he ran 80 speed last time out over eight furlongs. He has been training great this week and he definitely has enough speed to compete against this group.

Dunn: Have a great race!

DUNN MOVES ON TO THE NEXT BARN AND IS GREETED BY JOCKEY TOMMY JOHNSON

Tommy: Hey Dunn, how are you doing? Come see this great colt I am working with. This is BLAME FORTY NINER out of the metallinut farm. He has raced five times and has ran 70+ speed in all of those starts. He had a win at seven furlongs in his third but since then has had two disappointing showings. I hope I can get him back on track here today. He definitely has the speed, I am just not sure he can handle the distance.

DUNN MOVES ON TO BARN NUMBER THREE AND MEETS JOCKEY VICTORIA WEBB

Dunn: Hey Victoria, how is my horse doing?

Victoria: She is doing fine Dunn and has been training well since her second win last time out. CHAMDOEN KWIN, another strange name but I am assuming it has something to do with queen as her mother is DECEITFUL QUEEN. Her two wins were impressive but both were at five and a half furlongs so hopefully she will be able to run the extra distance today and find a spot on the board.

DUNN MOVES ON TO THE NEXT BARN AND IS GREETED BY JOCKEY SAL GRAVINA

Sal: Hey Dunn! Come on over and meet the competition. This is A.P. ZAPPER out of the silversky1 farm.  He might be the fastest horse in the race evidenced by his win last time out where he ran 84 speed over seven furlongs. He is a son of GHOSTZAPPER who has produced close to fifty winners this year. I really like this colt and I think we have a great chance of finding a spot on the board here.

Dunn: Have a great ride Sal!

DUNN MOVES ON TO BARN NUMBER FIVE AND MEETS JOCKEY NATHAN LINVILLE

Dunn: Nathan, it’s great to see you. Who are you riding today?

Nathan: Today I am working with the vettstars farm and riding RED KORNSNAKE. He is the son of YELLOW KORNSNAKE and the brother of BLUE KORNSNAKE who both had impressive careers taking home more than a million in earnings. This is a nice colt; hopefully he can have an equally good career.  He is making the switch to dirt for the first time here today after three starts on turf where he had one win. Hopefully he will like the surface change and have a good showing.

Dunn: Best  of luck to you Nathan.

DUNN MOVES ON TO BARN NUMBER SIX AND MEETS JOCKEY CONNIE JAMISON

Dunn: Hey Connie is that my son’s filly WORTHY IS THY NAME?

Connie: That’s right Dunn, I am working with newnewfydowns farm today and have the pleasure of working with this impressive filly. She has finished in the money in three of her five starts and ran 75 speed last time out. She has been working really well and I think this could be a breakout week for her and could be the start of a nice stretch of races.

DUNN WALKS DOWN TO BARN NUMBER SEVEN AND IS GREETED BY JOCKEY ROB RADZINSKI

Rob: Hey Dunn, great to see you, Come on over and check out BLOWN RICHES from the isittrue barn. She has finished in the money in all three of her starts and ran 82 speed last time out at the Stripling Sponsored by Megalopolis. This is a really nice filly that I think we will be one to reckon with here today. She is going this distance for the first time but has had lots left in her previous starts so I think she will be okay.

DUNN WALKS DOWN TO BARN NUMBER EIGHT AND MEETS JOCKEY HENRY ROSS

Dunn: Hey Henry who is that fine colt you are riding today?

Henry: This is SEE YOU BEE from the liam19 barn. He has hit the board in all four of his starts and has posted back to back 77 speed. I really like this colt and I think he should be there at the end today. He has been training really well and seems to be suited for this distance and seems to like the bright lights of New York. I think you might just see us in the winner’s circle today.

DUNN WALKS DOWN TO BARN NUMBER NINE AND MEETS JOCKEY JOSE BENISZ

Jose: Hey Dunn, I was wondering when you were coming by. Today I am riding this fine two year old gelding MICHAEL’S EDISON out of the oldmoonfarms33 barn. He has shown a steady increase in speed each time out since being gelded after his first start. Last time out he had a third place finish and ran 79 speed over eight furlongs.

Dunn: Have a great race Jose!

DUNN WALKS DOWN TO BARN NUMBER TEN AND MEETS JOCKEY WILL McLENDON

Will: Come on over Dunn and check out this great young colt DONOVAN’S DIAL out of the vampire4 barn. He has finished in the money in all six of his starts including three wins and two in a row. In his last he ran big 87 speed at the ESR Lost Sister Stakes and he may better that today and reach 90+. This is truly one of the nicest two year olds I have worked with in a long time.

Dunn: I can’t wait to watch him run.

DUNN WALKS DOWN TO BARN NUMBER ELEVEN AND MEETS JOCKEY SIMON ISRAEL

Dunn: Hey Simon is that the razer1 entry?

Simon: Good guess Dunn! This is UNION SPORTS a classy gelding out of the razer1 barn. He hasn’t raced since early June and this is his first start since being gelded. He ran mid 70 speed in his last start but finished fifth in that one. Ownership is hoping for a bit more speed out of him but doesn’t want me to push him too hard in his first race back. Hopefully he will have a good trip.

DUNN WALKS DOWN TO BARN NUMBER TWELVE AND IS GREETED BY JOCKEY SCOOTER COOMER

Scooter: Dunn, long time no see. You are in for a tough race here today. I am riding EL GURU out of the dscreetcat barn. He is a really nice colt that has finished in the money in three of his first four starts with his only miss last time out when he made the jump and tried a Stakes race. He finished fifth there but he ran 81 speed and that number might translate nicely against this group. I really like our chances.

DUNN WALKS DOWN TO BARN NUMBER THIRTEEN AND MEETS JOCKEY KAYA WASKO

Dunn: Hey Kaya is that another filly I see there?

Kaya: Yes indeed Dunn! This fine lady is SLASH CONNECTION, a GALLILEO daughter out of the wbenglish barn. She is a nice horse that  just had her first win at a five and half furlong sprint in Belgium. She has worked well leading up to this race but I am not sure she will have enough speed to finish on the board and she is also trying dirt for the first time. She is going to be one to keep an eye on in the future though.

DUNN MOVES ON TO THE NEXT BARN AND MEETS JOCKEY STEVE YOUNGBLOOD

Dunn: Hey Steve  is that a cat or a horse? I thought I heard purring down here.

Steve: This is CHAIRMAN MEOW from the valesa3 barn. He is definitely a horse, but with a cat’s name and definitely a cat’s temperament. He is very unpredictable and can even be a bit stand offish at times. He tends to think he is the boss and doesn’t always respond the way I need him to. He has raced three times to date and his speed numbers have improved each race but he has failed to hit the board. I really don’t know what to expect from him today.

DUNN WALKS DOWN TO BARN NUMBER FIFTEEN AND IS GREETED BY JOCKEY BRANDON RENFROE

Brandon: Hey Dunn, check out this two time winner LOOKIN BACK out of the daddy barn. He might just be the fastest horse here and was really impressive last time out when he ran 84 speed at this same distance. I really like his chances and have a feeling I might be drinking some milk in the winner’s circle today.

DUNN WALKS DOWN TO BARN NUMBER SIXTEEN AND IS GREETED BY JOCKEY KIM JANTZEN

Kim: I’ve got another filly for you to meet here Dunn! This is AGE OF NARCISSISM out of the pilotfish5 barn. She has been really busy as this is her sixth race in five months. I have been trying to take it easy on her in preparation for this race and I am really not sure what to expect. Another two weeks rest might have been good for her but we will give it our best effort and hopefully find a spot on the board.

DUNN WALKS DOWN TO BARN NUMBER SEVENTEEN AND IS GREETED BY JOCKEY CHRIS GERHKE

Chris: Here is another filly Dunn! This is  HENTY HYDEN a daughter of PIONEER OF THE NILE out of the bredtosell barn. She won her only career start back in July when she ran 71 speed over six and a half furlongs against a field of eight. She is well rested and I think eager to get back out there to show her owner what she can do. Hopefully we have a nice race.

DUNN WALKS DOWN TO BARN NUMBER EIGHTEEN AND IS GREETED BY JOCKEY DAVID ALLEN GELLNER

David: Saving the best for  last as they say Dunn!! This colt is JASON TODD out of the litelight barn. He has had two races so far and won last time out when he came from behind to win a six and a half furlong sprint. I like the way he finished that race and I am going to try to hold him back and see if a late dash will work again. There is more speed here today but hopefully he will show a little improvement and will be in the mix against this big field.

That is our field folks in the URC “UP FOR GRABS” DIRT and here is a look at morning line odds.

Red Kornsnake – 14/1
Chamdoen Kwin – 20/1
Henty Hyden – 8/1
