Welcome to Epsom Downs for todays feature the Six furlong sprint for fillies and mares over the fast turf course. Not a full field but there look to be four or five in with a real shout of the win. Lets take a look at the runners-
A. P. RIZZ KID (A.P. INDY x UNBRIDLED x TIMELESS NATIVE) POSITIVES- A 100 sp in a recent Grade I and a 101 in a recent stakes race. Has won seven sprints in her career. NEGATIVES- Those are the only two sp’s over 100 recently. Hasn’t won for some time, trip looks too short and bred for dirt so surprisiing has only tried it once. OVERALL- The 8/1 seems a little short as she looks short of the required class at this trip in this Grade. PLOY (EXPLOIT x LORD AT WAR(ARG) x BOLD RUCKUS) POSITIVES- Has won Nine races and over a Million dollars, all at sprint trips. Four recent runs over 100 sp the best of which was at this trip. Won a Grade II two runs back. Goes off fast so will allways be up in the front line. NEGATIVES- Has a tendancy to run out of steam near the line, over any trip. The 101 sp to win that Grade II seems a little low, could be vulnerable in that respect. |
OVERALL- Must rate a danger and will be in the van thoughout. Might be worth trying holding her up a little though as she runs out of gas having gone off in front. A lively contender.
COLORFUL CADEAUX(GB) (CADEAUX GENEREUX(GB) x RAINBOW QUEST x GREEN DESERT) POSITIVES- Great strike rate, she has won Eight of eighteen. Won a Grade III and second in a Grade II in recent races. Nice recent best sp of 106 over this trip. NEGATIVES- Has thrown in some pretty ordinary runs recently and looked to be wanting further in her latest Grade I run. OVERALL- That 106 alone makes her a threat but I’m not sure she doen’t want further mow. Will be up near the front and should get an early run. Big danger. DUBAI ROSE (E DUBAI x TABASCO CAT x HALO) POSITIVES- Recent 105 sp in winning a stakes race. Won thirteeen races all over sprint trips. NEGATIVES- That win and another stakes win with a 100 sp are the best she’s done recently. Has mostly struggles in Graded races. Bred to be a miler at least but never tried that far. OVERALL- Not sure about this one. That 105 is good but generally been below par in Graded races and although this isn’t the strongest Grade II the best she will do is a top five. ALYCATZ (WOODMAN x SADLER’S WELLS x KRIS S.) |
POSITIVES-
Has won Five from eighteen and has a recent 101 in a Grade III recently. Bred for the turf, still lightly raced.
NEGATIVES-
Bred to be at least a miler, only one recent run with sp over 100 , never won a Graded race.
OVERALL- Form of recent runs is not good enough for this and she looks to be bookedfor the midfield at best. Would like to see her try a mile though as she is bred for at least that.
CHARMING CHASE (SILVER CHARM x FUSAICHI PEGASUS x SEATTLE SLEW) POSITIVES- Recent 101 sp in a Grade II over 5f, two other recent runs with 100 +sp’s including a 106 over 7f. Plenty of speed in the pedigree and has won 11 times over sprint trips. NEGATIVES- Apart from that last run her best recent races have been over further and she has looked as though she wants a mile. No graded wins and plenty of ordinary runs in the recent record. OVERALL- Likes to come from mid field and generally has looked as though a mile would be better, she may find them going too quickly here. Could sneak a top three but top five is more likely. VY THE QUARTERBACK(KY) (KITTEN’S JOY x SEATTLE SLEW x NIJINSKY II) POSITIVES- Has won Six of sixten including a Grade III recently, has won over a Million dollars and is nicely bred. NEGATIVES- All her best recent races have been over 8f plus and she has been behind by as much as 10 lengths at halfway in some of her recent runs. That does not suggest that sprinting would be her forte. Only one recent run over 100 sp. OVERALL- Looks all out a stayer and not a sprinter. Recent form not good enough. Will struggle here. DANCE SEEKER (SEEKING THE GOLD x NORTHERN DANCER x BLUSHING GROOM(FR)) POSITIVES- Great strike rate, has won Fifteen of twenty seven, won almost 1.5 Million and has won around 70% of her runs at sprint trips. NEGATIVES- Tends too get a bit far behind early which leaves her a lot to do at the finish. OVERALL- Five of her last eight with 100 plus sp’s and four of her last five with 103 plus. Two recent Grade II wins ansd a recent Grade III win and a second in a Grade I. She is nailed on for a top three place. PEDRO’S ASSAULT(IRE) (ROCK OF GIBRALTAR (IRE) x STORM CAT x FORTY NINER) Won Seven of her last eight, including two Grade III’s and three stakes. Last recent run of 110 and another recent run of 109 set the standard here. NEGATIVES- Was recently running in claimers. |
OVERALL- She has to be the one to beat, those two recent runs alone stand out. The winner for mewith a big sp of 110 plus.
SECRET SANTA(GB) (DIESIS(GB) x STORM CAT x MR. PROSPECTOR) POSITIVES- Has won Five of eight, with two stakes wins and four in a row.Good 102 sp in her latest win. Very lightly raced with plenty of improvement left. NEGATIVES- No Graded runs and inexperienced. Up against some very experienced sprinters here. OVERALL- Clearly has talent and belongs here but may be a bit too early to be expecting a win. Nailed on top five and may get a top three. BLOCK OF UNITS(ENG) (SELKIRK x CHESTER HOUSE x FORTY NINER) POSITIVES- Bred for the turf. NEGATIVES- Too many to mention, hasn’t finished better than fourth recently and that was closing over 7f. Looks like a miler in allowance or stakes maybe. Way out of her depth here. OVERALL- Last placed finish- see above. CONCLUSION- Only one winner for me- PEDRO’S ASSAULT(IRE) |
