dunn fun – Jockeys on Horses Getting Milk – Episode 16
This piece of fictional fun is a chance for us to be introduced to one of the SIMS jockeys based on a popular TV show that features Comedians and Coffee.
WELCOME TO THE ANOTHER EPISODE OF “JOCKEYS ON HORSES GETTING MILK”.
On today’s show we are over at my stable close to Hamilton Ontario and will be riding on two of my horses.
My guest today is 22 year old Kirk Banner, a young Jockey from Pennsylvania that races out of his home track. Kirk is single and has a cat named Barbaro. Kirk has had a nice career and has finished in the money in fifty percent of his races.
I’m DUNN and this is “JOCKEYS ON HORSES GETTING MILK”!
Dunn (on phone): Hey Kirk it’s Dunn, I’m down at my stable and have two great horses for us to ride. Want to go for Milk?
Kirk(on phone): I would love to Dunn, I have been looking forward to your call.
DUNN AND KIRK MEET AT BARN.
Dunn: What do you think of our horses today? Today we are riding on 2 two year olds, Pokemunning and Sunday Secretariat.
Kirk: They are great Dunn. I know Pokemunning is fresh off a third place finish today at the His Bird Dirt Juvenile Fillies. Congrats on that Dunn. Hopefully she will continue to perform for you.
Dunn: I hope so Kirk. Come on let’s get going.
DUNN AND KIRK SADDLE UP.
Dunn: You have had a great year Kirk and I want to talk to you about that but I also want to talk about your height. You actually have the honor of being the shortest Jockey in the SIM.
Kirk: Yes that is right Dunn. I am only 4′ 5″ tall and am a full two inches shorter than the next tallest who is one of our top female Jockeys. Luckily we are in a sport where being short can be an advantage and since everyone is short I don’t get picked on or anything. I truly believe the old adage that great things come in small packages and I think my success is proving that.
Dunn: Despite your height, you actually have a big nickname. Tell me about that.
Kirk: Well because my last name is Banner, when I was young my friends always associated that with the Incredible Hulk and that has stuck to this day. Most people actually call me Hulk, even my Mom and Grandmother.
Dunn: How did you get into Horse Racing?
Kirk: My Dad was actually the track announcer at Philadelphia Park so I really grew up at the track. Being there so often I got to know everyone and eventually started helping trainers and Jockeys out and that led to me working some horses and then finally racing. It is amazing how things work out in life. I really don’t know what I would be doing if I wasn’t a Jockey. I graduated high school and basically went to work the next day.
Dunn: You have had an incredible year with almost 24 million in earnings. What has been the key to your success?
Kirk: I think for the most part that I have started to earn the respect of all of the owners and have been getting a lot of great mounts in big races. If you look at this year, I have won three big Grade 1 races that all had big purses. Taking home the Derby de English with a purse of 6 million was the biggest win of my career and definitely a highlight. I caught the big colt Widow’s Monster on a two race winning streak and his owners aframe27 really had the perfect game plan and we won easily. I have worked really hard but in this game you need to be lucky too and more often than not luck has been on my side.
Dunn: I agree with you Kirk but I also think that your skills are really developing and you have won some races that you probably shouldn’t.
Kirk: Thanks Dunn! Like I said I work hard and take a lot of pride in my work and really want to learn every day and want to bet the best.
Dunn:. It has been great getting to know you today Kirk, thanks for being my guest. Are you ready for some Milk?
