Ohio Thoroughbred Racing Residency: An Interview with Manager MrLucky

One on One Interview with MrLucky of the OHIO THOURGHBRED RACING
Residency.

Interviewer:  Ellowyn2

This is an interview between MrLucky of OTR (Ohio Thoroughbred
Racing Residency) and myself.  The purpose of this interview is
to gain some insight on what a residency is, what there is to
gain from membership, how it works, and what you can expect.
This interview is to also spotlight the OTR and its members.
The residency consists of 15 or so members and over 250 stables.
For anyone out there interested in joining this residency please
refer to the bottom of this article.  Thanks everyone for taking
the time to read this interview and I hope you enjoy it as much
as I did.

Mr.Lucky

First off I want to thank you, MrLucky, for taking the time to
answer some questions and filling us, the people of the sim, in
on some of the aspects of joining and running a residency.

Lets start with what is it about this game that made you stick with
it and then decide to start a residency of your own?

I love the breeding aspect of this game, always trying to breed that
Grade 1 winner.  I was in a residency before I started the OTR, and
I wanted to do things that other residencies didn’t do, give out
credits like a maniac (I think I have successfully done that).

So why the Ohio Thoroughbred Racing name?

I’m from Ohio and wanted to represent my state.  GO BUCKS!

From the beginning what are some of the things that you did to get it
started?  How did you get people to initially join?

I got people to join by giving away a 2 year old to every resident
that joined.  It worked great, as within a week, I think I had 6
residents and about 100 stables.

Now that is a great start to a thriving residency! What things do you
do to keep the members here and interested?

I am always trying to run different contests, as that is what residents
are wanting.  Everyone wants a chance to win, as that is why I give out
credits to the top 5 places on the quarterly contest.  I have started
a pick 3 trifecta which gives out 250+ credits if the correct combination
is picked.  I run claimer contests as well as having a monthly sponsored
2 year old stakes race. In addition, I encourage the residents to create
their own contests and/or manage their own ideas.  Sometimes they need
a little tweaking but in the end everyone really seems to enjoy
themselves and they love getting involved.  Anytime you can add another
dimension to the game other than individual horse races it really adds
flavor and spices it up to keep folks interested and coming back.  This
is not only for the residency but for the overall health of the game as
well.

You obviously love what you are doing. How important do you feel it is
to join a residency?  How much does it add to the experience of the game?

I have truly found out so much from joining residencies. In the beginning
you can learn so much from the veteran members.  You get to discuss things
outside the game.  You find out what other people think about breeding
tips. How often to run horses and most importantly, you can win credits
so you can buy that Grade 1 champion.

Tell us a little something that only someone running a residency would
know about the game?

It takes a lot of work. I probably spend a good 5-8 hours a week working
on the residency.  I do it because I enjoy it and I know others enjoy
it as well.  It is not so hard of work when you know you are appreciated.

Is the OTR and yourself currently accepting new members to the Ohio
Thoroughbred Racing Residency?

I am always accepting new members, the more members, the more credits
I can give out to the members.

Is that then how it works?  You get credits from the game to distribute
to the members of the residency?  So the more the merrier is the phrase
for the day!

Absolutely! I really enjoy passing out the credits.  At any given time
we could have as many as four or five detailed contests running not
including the standard weekly ones.  The more the merrier is a wonderful
phrase.  I should consider using that as our official logo.

How would someone go about joining or learning more about OTR residency?

Go to the message board and stating that you are interested in joining
or you can email me.  [This information will be provided at the end of
the article]

You spoke earlier about detailed and creative contests. Give an example
of a unique contest you have run at the OTR residency?

I think the best contest that I have run here at OHIO was a 10 week
contest.  Each resident got to pick 2 of their horses to gain points.
This contest is going to run 10 weeks so anyone can win.

You get points for how they produce and at what level.

Maidens/Claimer, MSW – 1 pt for every horse you beat
Starters – 1.5 pts for every horse you beat
Allowance – 2 pts for every horse you beat
Stakes – 3 pts for every horse you beat
Graded – 5 pts for every horse you beat

I also give out credits each week with allowance and stakes winners:

Grade 1 = 500 credits
Grade 2 or 3 = 100 credits
Stakes = 50 credits
Allowance = 10 credits

There are many others.  But if you want in on the excitement, by all
means, come and pay us a visit.

For those of us that pay attention to these things, we noticed OTR
moving up the ranks of recently.  What do you contribute to that success?

It’s all about the members. Honestly, we are gaining more BP’s each week
and keep adding new residents.  It is exciting watching this residency
not only grow, but because of the interest and the folks working
together, not only has the residency been more successful we are seeing
a lot more individual success.

Is running the residency more like work or more like fun?

It’s work, but I enjoy the work. As I mentioned earlier I put in about
5-8 hours a week from working on the standings to getting more
information on what contests I can run.  I’m always taking suggestions
from the residents, as they are the ones that want to enjoy themselves.

In closing, I want to thank you Mr.Lucky and the Ohio Thoroughbred
Racing Residency for taking the time today to answer some questions.
