This speeding ticket is worth $125,000 to the winner
What a way to end a perfect, sunny day here in Southern California. In the final race we have the G3 The sixty in a thirty special to be run at seven furlongs over the lightning fast dirt course. A field of eleven three year old filly and mares have been entered and all are in with a shot to win. It will be tough to pick the winner so I’ll try to give some insight into the competition today.
Drawing the rail is Rolledup 14/1 racing the colors of the profrockja stables. She is out of Song of the Sword x Dixie Person by Affirmed. She is by far the best runner to date for her dam. LTO she fired a big sp fig off the switch from turf to dirt and she did this in the G3 I said be quiet classic. Filly needs to be on the lead or just off as she shows good early speed. In that last race she faded in the stretch which she has been doing her last five races.
To her outside is Star of the North 7/1 racing for Snappa Racing Syndicate. She is a beautifully homebred daughter of Seeking the Glod x Northern Dancer. She’s been banging around with some top quality fillies lately, runnung in either G1 or G2 races. LTO she won the G2 Manhattan, which may be all she needed to get her confidence back. Likes to come off the pace, so she’ll be hoping for speed up front. Contender.
Post three holds Ghost into the Fog 6/1 owned by Daninja Stables. She’s out of Giant’s Causeway x Kingmambo. Ghost should be mixing it up on the front end here as she likes to take the lead. LTO she was beaten by 1/4 of a length in the G3 Flurry after leading throughout and fading just near the wire. Also in that race was Mike the Animal, who she faces again today.
Next to her is Beholder 9/1 owned and trained by Timjbehr stables. She is out of Aptitude x Meadowlake. She has been stakes placed so far just falling short the two times she’s sprinted. Her drop down to allowance in the last two have turned out to be nice races. Is that where she belongs? I can’t answer that but she will today.
Post five holds Speedometer 5/1 owned by The Evil Empire. She is by the great Storm Cat x Gone West. This lightly raced three year old has done nothing wrong to date. Winning half of her races and never finishing off the board. LTO in the G2 Fence Fryer she just couldn’t get to Devil in Mrs Jones(who is one of the best 3yo sprinters in the game). She dosen’t get that rival today and her stalking style here fit’s just right.
Breaking from post six is Heart of Light 7/1 raced by Deadinthelane Stables. She is out of Tiznow x Unbridled. Lto she lost to Star of the North who she faces again here today. All of her wins have come from going gate to wire and that alone is what might do her in today. With all the other speed entered in the race she just may find herself in a position she doesn’t like, getting the dirt kicked in her face.
On to post seven and Mike the Animal 4/1racing for the Liddleski Empire. She is out of Zavata x Efisio. LTO she was closing fast but not fast enough to win the G3 Flurry coming in third by just a 1/2 length. She’s a graded winner winning the G3 Backward Gal Stakes in February. Like her running style in this race as she is a closer in what should be some nice fractions to close in to.
Gate eight belongs to Gimme Vince Young 9/1 raced by Super Stables Bigger Than Big Oil. She is out of Ghostzapper x A.P. Indy. Very versitle filly who doesn’t need to be on the lead to win as she’s shown she can rate and come on big at the end. She was progressing nicely through her 3yo campign when something went wrong in the G1 Lool. The barn put her on the shelf for a month and she came back with a nice closing third LTO in the Fence Fryer.
Post nine is Dearest Debbie 9/1raced by Comer3 Stables. A daughter of Came Home x Seattle Slew. She’s tried a couple of graded routes before landing in the G3Dallas Stud last time out. She is another closer in the race but judging on her average speed in the eighties it just won’t be enough to get it done today.
Post ten is Displacer Beast 23/1 running for the Nane Pastures. She is out of Fantasticat x Boston Harbor. Still eligible for N2L, it’s hard to see her winning this, but this is still a horse race after all.
Final post eleven is Needle in the Hay 7/1 raced by The Eddie Empire! Out of Aptitude x Unbridled. She is a winner of five from thirteen. LTO she one the 7 1/2 Save the dancer memorial, drawing clear by 4 1/2 and recording a sp fig of 97 which looks like enough to win this here. If she can duplicate that effort look out.
