Fillies, 2 years old
Stakes Record – BALE OF SKUNKFEED, 82.55 SPF – 2003
It’s a great time to be watching this crop of two year olds. Most have won a race and a few have already won Stakes races. It is time to start weeding out the pretenders and finding out who our future champions are going to be. I really enjoy the two year olds and this group has some real potential. I always like to look back at then end of the year or next year around the Triple Jewell time and say, I was there when this horse won their first Graded race last summer. This race could be the start for one of those horses. I can’t wait to see it so let’s take a look:
1 – PSYCHOTHEORY(KY) ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED EARNINGS RANK 27/1 HoseShoe 10.8% L.Ranger 61 – 4 – 8 – 8 – 7 % 68.02 $ 63,000 7
( BOWMAN’S BAND x FREUD x FORMER out of PJ TOUGH BARGAIN) An undefeated Stakes winner who is getting no love from the Morning Line. Her speeds weren’t the fastest but she easily won both of her previous races including the GREYCAR MEMORIAL Stakes with a short field. Now trainer HoseShoe has moved her up to see if this chestnut beauty is a special young lady for sure. Interestingly enough she won one race from the back of the field and the second in a wire to wire trip. That is something you rarely see in these youngsters and jockey Ranger will have to see what she feels like here.
| 2 – NYSAEAN EVEN(SAF) | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | EARNINGS | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 11/1 | UKCardinal | 3.2% | S.Graf | 284 – 35 – 34 – 39 – 12 % | 72.00 | $9,100 | N/A |
( NYSAEAN (IRE) x STEPHEN GOT EVEN x WOODMAN out of AP SPIRIT) A rare look at an offspring of Sire NYSAEAN who has only 21 runners. This filly just missed winning her premier race last time out with a second when she couldn’t quite catch the wire to wire leader down the stretch. That was a full field and UKCardinal is anxiously awaiting this race to see if she bounces and falls back or improves and shows these girls what she’s got. She is guided by Graf in the leather who has one of the best records out here. Could be a surprise.
| 3 – DUBAWI QUEST(ENG) | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | EARNINGS | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10/1 | Xssessive | 4.1% | B.TheDog | 96 – 13 – 6 – 7 – 14 % | 64.44 | $ 14,175 | N/A |
(DUBAWI (IRE) x RAINBOW QUEST x DIXIELAND BAND) You may be hearing more from the Sire of this young lady. A sophomore Sire, DUBAWI has already spawned at least ten Stakes winners and a Graded winner as well in top ten ranked EYE OF THE WORLD. Trainer Xssessive would love to see this filly be the next Graded winner and she has that kind of look. With solid but unspectacular times, she looked a bit lost in her first race then came back with a nice win last time out from the front. She has B TheDog, one of a pair of brothers guiding horses in this race in the irons and he is quite capable with these juveniles.
| 4- CK MOSH PIT(KY) | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | EARNINGS | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4/1 | CKStable | 10.3% | B.Wu | 367 – 85 – 69 – 54 – 23 % | 72.93 | $ 66,000 | 6 |
( EL PRADO(IRE) x PULPIT x FAPPIANO) A beautiful cream colored filly, her results have been just as pretty. Two wins in her two races have left a big smile on the face of trainer CKStable. She won her first Stakes race last time out with a quick 72 SPF albeit against a short field of four. She is nicely bred and has the tracks best jockey holding the reins in Wu so you have all of the ammunition loaded and ready for a run at a third straight win for this team.
| 5 – TRUE CHANT(KY) | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | EARNINGS | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3/1 | TGI | 8.9% | M.Mia | 111 – 15 – 7 – 5 – 14 % | 72.92 | $ 19,080 | N/A |
( WAR CHANT x MISWAKI x SEATTLE SLEW out of TRUE SLEW AGAIN) One race won’t tell the story for this young lady but her win in her premier outing last time out showed quite a lot of heart. She stalked the leaders then pushed by in the last stride to win. The first offspring of million dollar and thirteen times Stakes winner, TRUE SLEW AGAIN, this young lady is making both her momma and trainer TGI quite proud. She has Mia in the saddle and is poised for a run to continue the source of that pride. Should be in the mix at the end.
| 6 – PT’S MS ROCK(JPN) | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | EARNINGS | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 17/1 | PitBullPat | 12.5% | J.Ventura | 331 – 62 – 53 – 48 – 19 % | 69.14 | $ 24,225 | N/A |
( ROCK OF GIBRALTAR (IRE) x BIG E. Z. x LOCAL TALENT out of JUDGE’S CHROMITE) After an impressive win going away in her first outing, this big chestnut filly couldn’t quite get in done in an Allowance race last time out. She finished second but didn’t seem to have that push at the end when she needed it. Trainer PitBullPat and very successful jockey Ventura will see if changes in training will give her that extra reserve at the end this time. She is one of only three runners for DamSire BIG E.Z. and could push his statistics way up with a win here.
| 7 – VINAKA(AUS) | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | EARNINGS | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2/1 | Battlers | 14.7% | P.Nine | 75 – 5 – 8 – 12 – 7 % | 67.93 | $ 30,000 | N/A |
( REDOUTE’S CHOICE (AUS) x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY (IRE) x MR. PROSPECTOR out of MRS SHREK) This Australian bred lady was quite impressive in her first and only race where she came from just off the pace to charge down the stretch to a rather easy win against a nice field. Trainer Battlers is hoping for a nice improvement in her 68 SPF from that race which could contend here. She has nice breeding out of five times Stakes winner MRS SHREK. Jockey Nine has struggled this year with only about half as many winners as he has been accustomed to in his ten years in the business. He would like to rectify that here.
| 8 – LAY GLOOM(FR) | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | EARNINGS | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 15/1 | BeamerClm | 12.5% | B.Head | 55 – 4 – 6 – 2 – 7 % | 68.51 | $ 6,240 | N/A |
( LAYMAN x BLUSHING JOHN x RELKO(GB)) This chestnut filly came from the back of the pack to capture her maiden outing in fine style. She had a solid 68 SPF and trainer BeamerClm is hoping that she improves on that here. With lots of early speed in this race, jockey Head will probably have a chance to lay back and bring her up past the tiring leaders at the end. If she has the stamina to do that, she could “lay gloom” on a lot of young ladies in this race.
| 9 – CAERFILLY(IND) | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | EARNINGS | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 14/1 | Alluvial | 18.4% | T.TheDog | 144 – 24 – 17 – 21 – 17 % | 64.92 | $ 19,480 | N/A |
( MAGISTRETTI x CAERLEON x ALZAO) Sometimes you see a horses name and wonder why no one else thought of that. I love this filly’s name and after a couple of solid races in Michigan, trainer Alluvial has “carefully” moved her to the big time here. She is ridden by the older member of the brother act in T.TheDog and he has fourteen years of successful experience with these youngsters. With her pedigree, she could have waited and run in Barndog’s State Tag series this weekend but a Graded win here would more than surpass success in that series.
| 10 – JACOBITE EMERALD(IND) | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | EARNINGS | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 9/1 | DeepBlue | 8.9% | P.Knapp | 48 – 3 – 5 – 6 – 6 % | 79.00 | $ 47,540 | 32 |
( EMERALD CAT x FANTASTIC LIGHT x JADE HUNTER out of HONEYSUCKLE) Another filly that could have qualified for the State Racing Tag series if she had waited to run, instead she is one of the top ranked fillies on the grass and is ready to show what she can do at the Graded level. She is our most senior member of the race with three outings under her belt and just missed being undefeated by a whisker in her first race. She has improved in leaps and bounds since that first race for trainer DeepBlue and ran a sizzling 79 SPF last time out to easily win in Illinois. The biggest drawback here is Knapp in the leather as he has been struggling mightily this year. Hopefully this impressive filly can overcome that and carry him to victory from the outside post.
Morning Line = 7-5-4-10
Paz Picks = 10-5-4-1
As I mentioned, this is the time to start separating the wheat from the chaff. I like PSYCHOTHEORY to finish fourth although she could easily win, it is sure tough to predict these youngsters. I like the way she handled herself in her two races so I have CK MOSH PIT third, just falling back in the stretch. I’ve got TRUE CHANT running in the number two spot, I like her breeding. In a bit of a surprise, I like slight longshot JACOBITE EMERALD to win by stalking the leaders and finishing them off in the stretch.
Good luck to all runners!
